he ain't wrong tho

we're out of the running due to the sheer $$ being offered to him by north

he either takes half the pay offered to him by them and stays at meth coke or he's a shinboner for the next six to seven years

After the Brayshaw mugging, I'm glad he wont be joining us. The money saved is far better spent on keeping our our superb young talent at the MFC.

Anyone who goes to North doesn’t have success at the forefront of their mind. I don’t want those types at our club. Next.

Dylan Shield anyone?

peptides is all the talk

he'll be another midget for them

My thoughts exactly. Sure they will package up someone for someone or a pick.

I agree, both short and medium term.

I feel we will need to spend some fairly big lollies to keep some of the core young talent we currently have. Plus they are developing under our nose. We have some potentially very good young players who are really flourishing in our current environment. Spend money on development.

O know GAff is a handy footballer, but not worth $1.2 M . Begs belief what Gawny/Oliver are worth. Or what Harmes/Salem are moving toward.

Worth remembering the rise in the SC every year. As much as $1mill per year is an outrageous amount to the average punter, the number of players getting this will increase over the next few years. Oliver will get it next contract, easy.

And so he should. One of the few worthy of it at the MFC (Glad Gus and Maxy signed on, otherwise they'd be worthy of it as well)

I think Gaff will still be a Dee! But maybe the big $$$ and the Brayshaw incident has swayed him to look elsewhere...

If he does go to North!

Watch this space on... Jack Billings!

Journo from on the couch said Gaff wont be coming to the Dees. Probably means Hawks or Dona, IMO i would be shocked if he joins North.

Well there is a method in that approach!!

Hnmm yep like the thought of Billings without Conservatism!

Yep radical approach

Lets get Billings......Sometimes the method works well without Covert Operations and coverup!

You literally have no idea about the internal workings at North. I’m totally biased (deal with them at a sponsorship level) and have only had glimpses but they seem to be well run.

Free agency doesn’t help small or non performing clubs. We’ve been in that boat for how many years, Gawny said it tonight “not a destination club”. One of the main reasons spouted for FA was the middling players can get to other clubs to get games... that’s been a hoax, it’s all about good to excellent players moving to wining teams/big clubs.

Shiel is a turnover merchant and can’t kick straight at goal.

Me either.

I would have liked him at the club, but if someone like North are offering godfather type money, then we need to step away and either look elsewhere or continue to back in others to improve.

If it is correct we have dropped off Gaff, then I feel that we have looked elsewhere.

List managers are always trying to improve the list and a little success doesn't stop the process, in a way it accelerates it.

I think we may have identified a need within our budget and are pursuing it.

I would be very surprised if we aren't after someone that the recruiters feel can improve the side.

If we aren't, then they aren't doing their job.

64 goals, 88 behinds over his career.  Its been a problem for him since day 1 and hasn't been improved in 5 years...  he was terrible in front of goal last season, and just about as bad this season.

No doubt hes a big talent, but he makes Tom Bugg look like Plugger Lockett when it comes to goal kicking.

His kicking in general play is also pretty bloody bad.

I think Harmes's phenomenal development has seen the needs for a pacy outside mid (Nut is by no means purely an outside mid) get shuffled back a few priorities.

I think so, 'DD'...  Re the gut running...    also ANB,,,  and to a lesser, JKH as well, as a backup.

IF we were into gaff since early on in 2017... a lot has changed within Mfc's list,,, since at least mid 2017...  and certainly this season, especially.

We are finding a few gut runners now, which was a real weakness for us, in Roosy's days.  Gaff was in this equation.

We have a need for speed, and they are like gold now, amongst the AFL.

Every player should be assessed relative to price. But I'm not sure why people pipe up that we should save our money for elsewhere. I'm pretty confident in our list management team getting it right nowadays. Some upside favourites may get squeezed out the bottom, but multiple flags are the goal, and if we lose someone with potential we get it back in longer term cookies. First-world list management.

I think journos are climbing on the Gaff to North bandwagon so they won't be wrong if it happens. If it doesn't they can blame their "mail".

Agree with this.

It's been nice to see the seemingly sudden development of Sam Weidemann, with his ability to give Gawn a rest, but surely we should be looking for a capable backup for a long term Gawn injury. Its been proven how important he is to us, and we would certainly find it much much harder to be a flag winner without a full time ruckman in the middle.

We are about to challenge for a Premiership, so a mature ruck backup is needed now.

They won't even bother blaming anyone else Clint. They will move on to the next rumour and act like nothing has happened.

The public love this stuff so much that they won't care and move on just as quick.

It's interesting, I feel Josh and Co have done a great job since becoming the incumbents, in completely under the radar getting some coups...

If it's not Gaff, quite frankly I have a sense based on past experience that the FD have got another ripper, who's good to go (no need for development) locked and loaded.

A few folk have referenced an early season comment also from Josh, that they're aiming for perhaps 2 people...

Again, my sense of the club, is they are very very measured with what they choose to say externally, thus I would imagine there will be 2 coming into the club...

In my opinion as well - for those wondering about Hogan and trading... personally I'm not phased, however what is good for the cub is good for the club and if they were to get a player and a pick (assuming it is Hogan who sticks his hand up to leave) - then I would assume the pick that is picked up would definitely be on-traded to get said player of the two that Josh was referencing.

Harmes has been terrific

I’d still have Gaff over ANB thanks.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
