Again i wonder about the external communication by the dees. Add this to the growing list of communication blunders (the departure of watts, the camp, the silence after the round 23 pies game, the woeful website etc).

I mean as if in the AFL fishbowl that exists in Melbourne someone was not going to pick this story up (and really it is unbelievable it was a person contracted by the MFC who ran with it). Sheesh.

Comms 101 is to get ahead of stories, which could have easily happened in a casual, informal way. For eg mahoney booking a interview on the weekend  and responding to the inevitable question about how we respond to last weeks game, with an answer like:

'We have looked at the game as an opportunity to improve all all aspects of how we go about things, including how we can better communicate key messages to our players when the opposition gets a run on. It is easy to forget how young our list is and we have two key leaders in TMac and Jack out so this week we are going to have Macca go back to his role that he played so brilliantly for the last 3 years as a key person communicating directly to players on the bench and conveying messages from the box'

Do we do this? No, instead once again we are reactive and in damage control.

And to be honest comments such as:

'That’s been the change and there isn’t much more to add to it than that.' begs the question

'well perhaps there is not much more to add but i'm really interested in the bit you are leaving out '

Amateur hour.

Sorry 'binman' but I don't see what the communication issue is here. You're jumping at shadows.

Surely the club don't have to put out a comm on every movement made by anyone within the club.

Clubs continually have people moving between the box and bench, sometimes even the senior coach spends more time on the bench.

It's only a story if Macca is p....off and leaked it. Then it's a staff issue not a comm issue and needs to be sorted internally.

Otherwise it's someone causing trouble about something that's a non issue, again not a comm issue.

With Macca back down on the bench, he can let the players know that bombing the ball inside forward 50 doesn't actually work. Especially when you only have one key forward who is up the ground most of the time. I'm still astounded that we didn't change our forward entries for the entire game against the Hawks. So much for the secret training in Port Melbourne the other week...

Saty, I know you think you know it all.

But this was reported by a Melbourne supporter who does the offical podcast weekly. It was also said with Paul Roos ,who would have knowledge of each persons role within the football department, sitting next to him.

If he says he was in the box the last 4 weeks, I know who I am believing.

I was of the understanding McCartney has been in the coaches box so far this season as he has been assisting Chaplin with backline coaching duties.

Thre reason the journo does the podcast is to provide an independent voice so the said same nuff nuffs don't whinge about it being a puff piece

I would love for you to show me some vision or direct me to it, of McCartney on the bench in the opening 4 rounds.

Essentially you are saying he has made up this story.

The Brayshaw piece, while a buch of fluff essentially just said Fremantle would be interested in Brayshaw. I don't see how Brayshaw would find that insulting. If you interpreted it differently, that is on you and Angus, not him.

@jnrmac   before the game, find a dark room, have a lie down, you will never last the game, I have spoken privately to a couple of Digs players, nothing but praise for McCartney, and no it wasn't 'supporter talk' , prefer to believe the Bont,  who stated in publicly as well over you

Would be interested in the views of  @Leoncelli_36 on this matter

My view is that I saw McCartney standing with Goody on Sunday at the VFL. There didn't seem to be any ill feeling. I'd say that perhaps there has been some conflicting messages and goody wants control. I will see my club source on Saturday and will see what he has for me.

@jnrmac

So one minute he is never in the box, the next minute he does both during games...?

Why anybody listens to a thing you say or backs you up in anything is totally beyond me.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one rjay. I don't think they should put out comms for every little thing, i think they should have been a little clever and mentioned it in an informal way to manage the 'narrative'

Why - because even if not leaked it would have been noticed during the game that Maccas was not in the box and in the hot house that is the AFL in this town had the potential to become a story.

And my evidence? It did become a story and Mahoney had to react to it.

That's not evidence 'binman'...

The story or non story (mischief) was not that he had been moved down to the bench.

That's all a comm could have said and it would have been a waste of space and time.

True or not the story was Macca wasn't happy with the move.

What comm would you suggest they should have put out there?

Sounds all plausible. It could also be just a case of McCartney being more suited to arresting the possibility of players throwing in the towel again at ground level. Appreciate your feedback and anything further that may arise. Cheers

Hi heard that Maca wanted to play Watts at half back but goody said that is impossible. When Macs question why, good said he is no longer at the club. Maca said who was the idiot who authorised that? GOODY said me. Maca said that's it. I am leaving the Bulldogs.

I choose to believe anything that paints my club in a negative light.

I will also blame this obviously true revelation when we lose tonight.

I KNEW we were in trouble off field and this confirms my view 100%

We are a rabble.

Tigers by 100 points.

We have been invaded by more trolls.

Massive overreaction. The Mole Morris should be sacked immediately.

Who does this to their own club really?

I feel a bit sick about this, may be nothing but let’s hope we can put it behind us and not get flogged for it to raise its ugly head again. Who the hell is this Morris guy?

This is a bit like essendon playing stringer in the midfield and hooker in the forward did not work in round 4 hooker went back and stringer went forward, it worked, you put people where they are  best suit for the team, BM is best suited on the  bench, sometimes clubs try something different and it doesn't work, then they go back to what did work.

Making stuff up ????  please you do realise this is a publuc forum full of keyboard experts, I have no need whatsoever to explain myself on here, laughable old chap

What I put was correct they were trying a fifferent tack, it dididn't work, nothing to do with a rift, McCartney's tenure at the Dogs etc etc

Did you know thecrwal reason Viney is now banned from the box is that Goody thinks he is malingering?????

Irrespective of who's who, that's a lot of people in the coach's box. I'm not sure if I was senior coach I'd want that many people all trying to advise me. If, however, half or even two-thirds of them are just there to watch and can keep their mouths shut, I could live with that.

Man enough, from heroes who hide behind nicknanes, tough guy, the Club had to [censored] on the fire on an experiment that didn't work, my point, now listen, is that it was in no way a problem as his role had always been on the bench previously

Besides which I can say what I like on here, like some of you more colouful sermons, grow up

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
