Good post. Im interstate and sometimes the game does look different at the ground. On the vision he didnt seem able to handle the slippery ball and made a lot of errors that were frustrating to watch...but its also true that richmond are the best high pressure team going around. He wasnt our worse but doesnt seem like he's making us too much better either. 1 Quote
deeko 952 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 I’m happy with Gus to keep getting picked. He deserves a run after his horror run of injuries and is playing in a completely new role he is still learning He played his junior football as an inside mid and was a bull. His ball winning ability and clearance skills are saw him selected at pick 2. Unfortunately, with the knocks, it might me a while till he gets back in there so learning a secondary role in the meantime is fine with me. Hes not exactly setting the world on fire but also, he’s not a concern to me when ANB, Stretch and Harmes are getting a run. He just needs a good solid run at it and I have no doubt he will be fine 4 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Far far better tonight playing a lot of half back. That's where he should play. Let the game come to him, win some contests, make smart decisions with the ball. Can move on to the wing in the second half. No idea why he wasn't given the half back spot to start the year after 3 promising games to finish last year but hopefully he stays there now. Some mistakes, but also a lot of really strong contests in the air and on the ground and some smart footy. Quote
jacey 333 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 He was bad early on. Losing multiple contests n pushed aside. Fought hard n found his way. Can build on from this game. Quote
Pates 9,695 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Not in my list of people to be dropped, thought he was ok without being amazing. He’s got skills in him and did some good things. Quote

chook fowler 19,762 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 One of the positives I thought. Looked better in the second half. He must be played. Quote
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Need to play as an inside mid. We were getting destroyed in clearances last night. Why oh why was Gus not in there? Quote
What 18,810 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 (edited) 32 disposals and a goal, in the best four players on the ground with Hogan, Oliver and Gawn. Continuing on from his great form last week when he was moved on to the ball. Gus is gonna be awesome. Edited May 6, 2018 by Petraccattack 9 Quote
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I am so so happy for him. He is seriously good and just needs some continuity. Well done Gussy!! 12 1 Quote
Dee-licious 1,954 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 @Jaded as you said - he needs to play inside mid. When he does we are a better team and he’s a better player. Viney Oliver Brayshaw at the coal face is pretty scary. Quote
hells bells 2,023 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 His best game for the club. Add Viney and look out. 1 Quote
Return to Glory 8,518 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Got to admit, I've been a little pessimistic about Gus ever becoming a very good player for us. Looks like I could be wrong. Hope so. Today was a real step forward. 2 Quote
Adam The God 30,706 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 A real game of two halves. Was terrible in the first half, was excellent in the second half. He's another that likes playing St Kilda. Let's hope he can play most games like his second half. Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw could be deadly. Add Salem back into the team as well and we look very good. 1 Quote
Hellaintabadplacetobe 4,335 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Hardest at it when the game was on the line in the first half, sensational effort. Upside on this lad is enormous ! 2 Quote

The problem is that he’s a very ordinary tackler which is noticeable today through the third quarter so not really an alternative to quality tacklers on the inside like Viney, Jones and Oliver and a terrible kick so can’t replace quality kicks of the footy outside like Salem, Harmes etc. 2 Quote

What game were you watching? The last 2 weeks hes laid some really bone jarring tackles in the middle and around the ground. Ordinary? So far from it.. 13 Quote
Stinger 463 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 He didn’t stick a few tackles today but I wouldn’t say he is an ordinary tackler. The beauty about him is his ability on both sides - he roves off max and it doesn’t matter which side he’s on he can kick it long and confident. Quote
Young Blood 2,642 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 (edited) Yeah he is no ordinary tackler. He didn't stick with some today but his pressure around the ball was excellent especially in the first half, the same half where he made a few mistakes and many on here seem to think he was terrible. I thought he and Oliver were BOG Edited May 6, 2018 by mongrel 2 Quote
Mazer Rackham 14,971 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 (edited) The thing that was so good to see is that he's got his football smarts working for him again. When he came on the scene that was what stood out. (Like Spargo last week.) After all the concussion, when he came back he looked like a ball chaser. Like an ANB with better skills. Today he was everywhere and did countless one per centers. Gee it was good to see a footballer go about his craft. Edited May 6, 2018 by Mazer Rackham 1 Quote

He can't kick like harmes gives it away. 1 2 Quote
Pates 9,695 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Back to what we know he could do. He needed confidence in himself and these games will do him (and us) a world of good. 1 Quote
DEE fence 5,051 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 This is what we saw in the first year + intensity, late in the game he got a little head knock, heart in mouth moment. Quote
