Obliterated them in inside 50s 64-41.  Tidy things up going forward and that would translate to an easy win.

Had so many passengers yet almost won.

Gawn-Oliver-Petracca-Viney combo will be one of, if not the very best midfield combination within the next couple of years.

That is exactly why things are different now from any time in my life. We've had some superstars, but almost never in the midfield (as I've mentioned in other threads). I'll take Schwartz pre-knees, and Nietz anytime over MANY so-called great players. But we've never really had midfielders that are just 100% class from the day they arrive fresh out of the TAC cup. And even though we lost on the weekend, you can see what we have as clear as day.

Strap in.

- we were able to steady and turn the game around

- the new-look backline improved as the game went on

- Max's mark in the dying moments. A bit lost in focusing on the kick that followed, but was massive.

  1. We had a number of players with either no impact (Harmes, ANB, Melksham, Garlett), minimal impact (Fritsch, Hannan, Pedersen, Hunt) or well below their A-grade best (Lever, Jetta, Hibberd) yet still pushed a preliminary finalist and a widely-tipped flag contender to the brink;
  2. We fought back from 27 points down at half time and forced Geelong from scoring 80 first-half points into only 17 second half-points (although I can't help but query whether this would have happened if they weren't a player down on the bench);
  3. Petracca and Oliver are stars.

1. Speed of ball movement and risk taking was excellent. With Viney back our midfield will be elite for 5+ years. And we have the best ruckman in the competition.

2. Pushed a hardened top 4 team in a milestone game to within a kick even with 6-8 below average performances.

3. Oscar's ongoing development.

Outside of the obvious in Oli, Trac and Gawny

1. Omac doing what no Dees defender has been able to do to Hawkins

2. The second half turnaround of the team but specifically Wagner who had an impact in the third and Maynard in game number 2 or 3 playing a tagging role on Ablett, which was a big factor in him having less influence on the game. He still got plenty of footy but his impact was reduced

3. We have an opportunity to redeem ourselves on Saturday

1 The number of topics generated by a loss

Worst poster on Demonland . ^

Anyways back on topic

1.   Max Gawns form.. he will walk into the AA ruck spot, injury permitting.

2.  We almost pinched the game with some of our key players having their worst games in a while (Hibberd, Jetta, Melksham)

3 .  Oscar McDonald  totally shutting out Hawkins.

#1. Q3: (7:41) Garlett, Fritsch and Melksham apply the right forward pressure to prevent the Cats from letting the ball roll out of the boundary resulting in a goal - watch it again, it’s amazing!

Keep that up lads and they’ll have no chance!

#2. Wagner’s tackle on Selwood, but also his consistently applied drive, bash and movement with total disrespect for his own safety during Q3 and Q4!

He’s done enough for mine for re-selection next week.

#3. Fritsch gliding through the field, positively influencing almost all of his engagements, although his disposal efficiency doesn’t capture his influence.

Super debut, demonstrated aerial and ground level class!

Just want to thank the OP on such a good idea for a thread, there’s a lot of good to take out of this one!

IN: Tyson, Frost

OUT: Maynard, Hunt

ON NOTICE: ANB, Salem and Garlett

I like this thread!

*  Max, Trac and Oliver - awesome

* The game was exciting - we were in it all the way

* Hand control and playing as a team for most of the game - trusting that players where where they should be (in close play, midfield).

1. Selection without Brayshaw, Frost, Bugg, Tyson is fraught with danger in a weakened team

2. Kicking and moving with accuracy needs immediate improvement

3, We actually won the game except on the scoreboard, it was a great game except for the biased umpires, we had too many passengers across the game.

Wrapped with Omac, he's solid in build and becoming dependable

The dees contested footy and hardness is being put out there as our brand (even without our champion hardnut viney)

the game against a top 4 side was within our grasp with less than a minute to go. Clear signs that we can compete with the best, even though I thought many struggled

He should but Nicnat is back and the way they talk about him after one game is unbelievable, I think he has already been given the AA spot, Max is playing for the bench already!

1. MFC did not go on camp

2. Adelaide football club went on a cult like camp and word is it harmed players

3. Tex liked it and would recommend to his family and friends

Now will Caro decide to do some investigative journalism and write an opinion piece about a useless camp designed to test player limts that didn't work

I’ve stopped venting and after a quite cheroot I can reflect on my first live game in two years...

1. A centre square set up to put fear into the rest of the comp Max Clarry Trac and Jones (sans Viney)

2. We came back in the second half hard all over the ground and were systematically ruthless and tough (a final eight sign)

3. And we have options ..Frost Tyson Stretch Gus Kent Bugg (Viney TMac) and the kids won’t be thrown to the wolves..

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
