I just want to pump brisbane. I want the game to be over at half time. I want to win this game by 40 plus.

What I want to see:
-I've always been critical of petraccas kicking. The weekend proved it. He played a good game but kicking on goal needs improving.
- I want Lever to play a good game. We offered up so much to Adelaide to get him. He needs to be AA to justify it in my opinion. I want to see rebound. Lever is quick and with the likes of OMac, Jetta, Hibberd and Lewis we really need him to offer rebound.
-I want to see Pedersen hold his marks. He let a few drop on the weekend.
-I want to see overall defensive pressure. We looked so slow on the weekend. So slow! I really think need to get Frost back into the team to get some speed back into our team. (Thoughts?)
- I want to see Hibberd get a bit more of the footy. I've got him in my fantasy team, as do half the nation and he played like garbage.

Mitch Hannan's inability to kick clutch goals is starting to worry me

Hannan is a serious player. Talented, versatile and has upside. Very impressed with him. He will improve from week 1.

It's pretty damning that the mis-matches we're referring to though are aerial contests between our marquee KPD and under-sized medium forwards.  Lever is a gun, but he should not be beaten in the air one-on-one against Menzel or resting mid-fielders.

Didn't see this when i posted something very similar.

The other interesting question is why goody didnt put lever on hawkins to combat the use of hawkins up the ground to isolate lever. My guess is because that is actually the mismatch they wanted and goody didnt.

His kicking needs to improve

I love the way he hits a contest and he has pace

Technically, his ball drop is inconsistent

Beams and Zorko ran amok against us at the MCG last year and nearly got them over the line. If it wasn't for Jesse Hogan's 6 goals it would have eventuated. StKilda successfully put the clamps on Zorko and Beams was good but needed the run.

Should Goodwin' roll the dice' with these two (read Ablett & Selwood). watch out for a combined 70 + possession output and a major dent to our chances in this game.

Good find stmj. Assessment of the run of play seems quite accurate.

As stated, we have a very focussed (some may say predictable) game plan at stoppages the works either very well or very poorly depending on the opposition.

Scott is not a slouch as a coach, he's learned a thing or 2 over 6-8 years. That does not mean Goody is not his equal, but rather, Goody has much less experience with dealing with a counter attack. Lack of experience in the coaching box can sometimes make a difference. We played a conventional offensive game plan, Geelong played a more defensive but precision based style. They dodged left and right avoiding contested ball in order to make space until they ground opened up for them to consistently score unopposed knockout punches.

It does not always work, but on Sunday it worked just enough for the 19 fit players they had available for most of the game.

Let's hope we don't retain our tunnel vision this Saturday night.

It worked in 3 out of the 4 quarters, so I wouldn’t be changing it.  If they fix up the last kick into the 50, they will be dominating teams.

Brayshaw in and out? Do you mean Maynard?

These are official? Or your own selections?

Do you wish to clarify what you mean with Brayshaw? Were you perhaps bringing him in to replace someone else?

Largely because Hawkins was a decoy dragging OMac up the ground and leaving Lever on the last line in one on one contests.

Don't get carried away...

That is how I saw it, too and suspected that if it wasn't a physical bump he would draw out the defender who did follow like a puppy to protect the Dees from Hawkins' long kicking should he get possession. Lucky Hawkins had a bad day.

I also hear you re Frost up forward but sometimes players also need to be flexible if they are to be of value to the team structure, especially when called on to cover a key out like T-Mac.  Im not saying he needs to play the whole match there if its not working and shldnt be swung down back at some stages but wldnt mind seeing him start the match there.

I'm not averse to Frost playing, but I can't see him playing as a forward. That's been trialled and didn't work before, so I see it as unlikely to happen again. However, he could come in for Wagner who could be described as the "third tall" given the roles that he and the other defenders (ie, Hunt, Jetta, Hibberd and Vince) play. My preference is still to bring in Brayshaw and Tyson before him, though.

Sorry LDC....thought u were Steve lol.  Response is pasted on top of yours (see above).... couldnt paste here for some silly reason

I reckon he is off form given tenderness in the ribs; his game was ordinary and no defensive pressure of note was applied. He seemed uncomfortable with his breathing and avoided contact after 'a run' or two. He is a talent who possibly could be rested.

Don’t give credence that a bloke hit his target 93% of the time???

Let’s not let the facts get in the way of your opinion.

Should have had 10 to 20% efficiency taken off for kicking out of bounce in a non pressure situation.

I would have thought the total ease the Cats had in opening up our backline was a clear sign our backline coaching inertia failed four qtrs out of 4.

The Cats conversion rate for every inside 50 entry was nothing short of exceptional.

The last kick inside our 50 was a different issue, but equally one needing work.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
