What this game said to me ...tigers won the premiership with a very soft draw & an injury free list ...take one player out of their side ...Dustin Martin....& they are gone !!! Also apply that to Essendon & remove Daniher & the same scenario occurs ...I am not going to mention the name of the player that Melb  could ill afford to lose ...(he is very tall), however very confident we cover all other positions ...Go Dees

I thought the Tigers were quite good after a very slow start, they have an around the ground manic game style where every player pushes up real hard. Talk after the game is quite a few players have been on heavily modified pre-seasons and they are very much aware the season is a marathon, not a sprint. I was hoping for the upset and obviously barracking for the underdog - Blues just failed to play 100 minutes of football but a few of their kids look very talented.

Huge crowd, I did not see the final number but the noise early was massive - the game of AFL football is in great shape.

Bt is a poor commentator.

Roaming Brian is easily the most cringeworthy addition to post game commentary in the entire fuggin universe!

Roaming Brian makes me laugh just watching the people in the background trying to avoid him.

Taylor and Darcy are soooo cringeworthy, I subscribed to Foxtel in part to avoid hearing and seeing them (and to watch all demon games).

Could no longer stand their banal commentary, fake excitement and hero worship.

What, you weren't fascinated to see a close up of Dusty's shoe? They say if you touch it, it immediately heals all groin or hamstring injuries you may have. (But it also has the terrible power to curse. If used unwisely, it can revoke your relatives' travel visas.)

(When I say "they", I mean "Bruce")

The commentary showed that the announcers have not lifted their game. Every year, teams, players try to improve, but commentators never seem to even try. Bruce is back to his best "horse race calling" style. Hey Bruce ... we can see for ourselves that so-and-so just kicked it. As for Roaming Brian ... god help us.

Daisy the only one who seems to put time in preparing.

The scoreline flattered Carlton. Inside 50s 71 to 47 and they had 16 more scoring shots. Carlton had an orgasmic start to the game which you won't see very often and Richmond looked a little off color. Yet Carlton are the ones being praised ???????

Definitely!  Seven of their goals from Frees/50m penalties courtesy of the 'rule of the week' enforcing the protection zone.

They have certainly improved and are playing a more attacking game style but will still be at the lower end of the ladder.  They don't have enough goal kickers nor back up talls if Kruezer goes out injured for a while.

Having said that they can build a really good team around C. Curnow, Cripps, Dow and Weitering - it will take a few more years.

Correct. Richmond’s kicking for goal in the first 3 quarters was atrocious.

Carlscum are improving

Tigers have a very specific game style, credit must go to Carlton coaching staff they did their “homework” it took Tigers coaching staff time to make adjustments to get game back on their terms - then it was only stupid mistakes partly related to fatigue that kept Blues in game. You could see Tigers were quite “lazy” off the ball - but OMG when the ball is in their zone they step up 3 gears.

I should add don’t worry the Tigers are beatable - we are going to get them their weaknesses are exploitable.

Begs belief we drafted Weiderman over Curnow. Another blunder right there

Another blunder?

We've nailed drafting in recent years, and yes Curnow is a great player, but Weids is not done and dusted. He is a key position player in his third pre-season battling injuries. Chill out!

While they played well and the media are happy to talk them up, the Blues are still a long, long way off.  Their depth is minimal and an injury to someone like Cripps means their midfield is painfully shallow.  Same goes for their forward line - Curnow looks good, but if he has an injury?  They have no reliable coverage and would struggle to kick 10 goals a game.

The Tigers had a hangover for roughly 15 minutes and then it was business as usual.

Dusty pushing people out of marking contests with 2 hands.  When was that ever legal??

Was clear as daylight and the Fox commentators never uttered a word. 1. It's Richmond and 2. It's Dusty. Umpires really need to watch this. I won't hold my breath.

Cripps’ disposal and decision making let’s him down.

Hah. And the Sun Herald gave him "best on ground".

He was up there for sure but my point still stands. His disposal is below average and on more than a few occasions last night he handballed to teammates who were tackled straight away.

They are already watching. Martin has his own set of rules.

If any other player does it they are pinged!

Unrelated question but does anyone know if the Frank Grey Smith Bar is accessible to standard members? I’ve got 11 home game membership. I’m meant to be meeting a mate there

cheers

Betts, Jenkins and McGovern is a decent fwd line

crows underrated despite being the best H&A team of last year.

Betts to kick 7

Come on Crows, destroy the Druggos...  dont give them an inch, dont let them get their confidence up.  The cheats deserve to finish bottom 4, every season.

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road for their 3rd interstate game in 4 weeks as they face a fit and firing Crows at Adelaide Oval. With finals now out of our grasps what are you hoping from the Dees today?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
