The way Viney just walked away afterwards was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Even greater than the time I dropped a beer on concrete and it bounced back up into my hand.

(This is the only video I could find of the walk away)

Laughable that a range is given. Why not go out on a limb and predict that ladder at the end of round 22 Weak to say the least.

Posted (edited)

They 'analyse' 13 teams that can make the 8; with 8 teams could make the top 4.

On the other side, they only have 6 teams that can make the bottom six, so lock in Saints, Freo, Brisbane, Carlton, GCS and North. But only Carlton, GCS and North can finish bottom.

I distributed their predictions and their ladder looks like:

Adelaide 1 2 3
GWS 1 2 3 4
Ricmond 1 2 3 4 5
Geelong 1 2 3 4 5 6
Essendon   2 3 4 5 6 7
Port   2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Swans     3 4 5 6
Melbourne     4 5 6 7 8 9
Hawthorn         6 7 8 9 10
W Bulldogs           7 8 9 10 11 12
Collingwood             8 9 10 11 12
WCE               8 9 10 11 12
Saints               8 9 10 11 12 13 14
Freo                       12 13 14 15 16
Brisbane                       12 13 14 15 16
Carlton                             15 16 17 18
GCS                             15 16 17 18
North                             15 16 17 18

Interesting to look at who we play twice this year:

They are ; St KIlda, Gold Coast, Geelong, Crows  and Bulldogs

Other than GCS , none of those teams are pushovers.

That just reminded me that we beat the Saints twice last season after a decade of being owned by them.

We really made strides last season,  but the Round 23 choke wiped so much of it from the memory unfortunately

Geez, I just had the realization that we also beat Adelaide at Adelaide oval last season too. Had completely forgotten.  That end of season screw up really did throw a dark cloud over an otherwise very good season up to that point

Losing to the cellar dweller North not once but twice was what killed our season. North only won 6 games for the season and was one game and percentage away from the wooden spoon.

We also just fell in against Carlton and didn't exactly shine against the Lions and of course we lost to Freo.

Have to toughen up this year.

Our run home in 2018 is not easy so we had better be around 7-4 at the bye if want to be comfortable.

How exciting to enter a season with realistic high expectations for once. Saddened by Jws exit but time to move on. Bring it on. Can't wait.

Best body slam ever.

We have to see more of that level of tackling from Viney, more often, more universally, more reflectively. We need to wake up in the morning with that performance on our minds. Then, we can label each of his weekly opponents with the promise that '...Jay is going to get you, too...'  What a superb tackle. I had not seen it before but it goes down as perhaps the best ever, Doc.

We will get to see the Viney slam during the season, but did you get the beer bounce on video?

One of the big things on teams improving and particularly young teams or players, is the gap between best and worst performances closes. If Demons can take this step and I’m confident they will, the losses to the bottom six teams should rarely happen.

Even looking at JLT we didn’t rely on any standout performances, just a really solid team effort. We have 26-28 players in the mix for round one, that helps ensure players won’t be able to drop off in performance every other week, because they will be replaced.

Even in JLT against North we had Viney, Garlett, & Tyson missing, Frost just outside the 22, putting pressure on the guys who got a game.

Our best, think Crows in Adelaide winning from 4 goals down in the 2nd quarter is bloody good, if we lift our worst performances by 2-3 goals, we beat North twice, Hawthorn, Freo last year.

I’m looking forward to having to stay in Melbourne this September to watch the Dees!

If don't make finals I will never get on this site again, will not be able to stand the same posters crying about the same things over and over again on every thread.

The Essendon thing is all part of the narrative being spun by the AFL and media. Will be completed when they win this year's flag. After that Goddard's movie gets made. Enough to make anyone puke.

Narrative? They finished 7th last year and are expected to improve. No reason why they can’t finish top 4

It was great to see so many embarrassing records ticked off that famous thread last year.

I'm sure it will continue with a birth in the finals as well a a win against Norf.

Want the players to be confident but not get ahead of themselves in the media at times and here's hoping we don't get smashed by injuries again towards the business end of the season (or any for that matter). Go dees

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
