Of the 3 selections, I went with ANB.

Gawny looks in terrific nick and Fritsch jagged 3 goals in a really good first up performance, but the continual improvement from ANB has been great to watch.

I was also impressed with Melksham's game and what he brings to the side at the moment.

I really have to sit on the fence

Gawn we have seen. Just needs to stay out there.

Harmes and Neal Bullen have shown glimpses and look like they are ready to announce themselves as Afl footballers.

Melksham has always been a physically  gifted but damaged footballer who appears to have got himself in a good head space. His development stalled with the drug saga.

Fritsch reminds me of Bob Murphy.

Really excited about all of them and their contribution to what should be a great year.

I gave my nod to Max, but I acknowledge that I was watching the game vs North, but had at least half an eye on the bigger picture.   IMO a fit and firing Max will have a greater impact on our season results than any other player on our list (valuable as many of the others might be).  He is a major point of difference between us and every other club in the competition, and to see him throwing his weight around, directing traffic, and clearly outpointing a significant rival with his tap work, was sensational and a very positive omen for what lies ahead in 2018.  He's back!

All above comments correct but Fritsch really looks the goods and for nothing - Boom!

He was pick 31, I think ANB was taken in the 40’s.

Gee our recruiting has improved.

Melksham could be a surprise X Factor that all teams  need to have a great chance of succeeding.

Hard to split ANB, Harmes & Melksham as players to really impress me most in JLT 1, followed by Salem. Gawn I kind of expected.

Oh yeah, calling it early..... we won the Watts trade hands down. Fritsch will play and influence more games this year so long as his body holds up, you can tell he's a freakish talent, whereas Watts will forever be untapped. Heart was barely in it for a club he loved, goodluck Hinkely cuddling him to his fullest potential....

There were a number of impressive performances first-up but I was pleased with the confidence OMac displayed.

Great body work one on one, he read the play well, excellent by foot and looks to have added some size and strength.

It was only the one game and we shouldn't get carried away as we will face more dynamic centre and forward lines but having Lever next to him will aid this kid in becoming a very solid KPD.

We tend to do better with the picks 30 to 60 than we do with those 20 and before.

Maybe once. Hogan, Salem, Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw are all pretty handy.

I found it hard to pick a complete standout.

It was probably the best team effort I have seen for many a year

12 individual goal kickers says a lot.

I haven't seen the stats, but it must have been the closest bunch of numbers for a melb. team.

Harmes has 'surprised' me the most this off-season, closely followed by Melksham, who's also gone to a new level.

Agree. Re Harmes, he has always shown he has some nice attributes, but I thought Saturday’s effort was a more assured, mature offering from him than in his previous seasons.

Nibbler and Harmes showed clear signs they can go to a new level this year. But for a first outing, it’s impossible to go past Fritsch. We have found ourselves a gem.

Although I picked ANB, I thought that OMac played his role incredibly well. He was matched up against Brown all day and aside from one free kick late in the fourth quarter, it looked like he's improving nicely.

There was one moment sometime in the third where he completely out-bodied Brown and took the mark out in front. His kicking also looks to have come a long way.

I have always believed in Alex, harmes 4, Salem,  Omac and tom would all turnout to be good AFL players, never lost Faith in them all, imagin if we picked freeman instead of Salem, what a joke the saints are saying there is no panic with Freeman, the kids not played a game in 4 seasons and is going in for surgery, he must be good, he is the unluckiest luckiest player ever, he might be on a AFL list for 5 years without playing a game of AFL and not even playing more then 20 games in the VFL, when is the time to panic, he might go for the record for the most years on a AFL main list, without playing a game.

Agree on all counts, but particularly that Lever will be a huge help. Lever's leadership is impressive and love how he looks to set up the back six. The two will need to develop synergy but good signs so far.

I had to laugh hearing Gary Lyon comment a couple of times about the risk Lever was taking zoning well off (in front actually) of his opponent. Der fred. That's his go and why we've got him.

But it does mean we will inevitably leak some goals over the back and that the other defenders, particularly Tmac's younger brother, will have to cover at some stages (as Lever will too of course), which he did at one point where he came in to swoop on a ball that had got goal side (in the last q?). I have no idea how far he came from (which is one reason i much prefer watching games live) but hit the ball at speed and cleared it saving a near certain goal.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
