What an outrageous way to treat anyone let alone a champion of our club.

"We had 5 minutes to get our stuff together & by the time I got to the front door, my email had been cut off and my pass had been cancelled"

David Schwarz who, along with Mark Allen, were sacked by SEN when their programme ended last night.

Is it Hutchy’s Crocmedia that owns the station?

Mark Allen is a goose. Good riddance ! Shame to lose Theo X though !!

Like... WOW.

That kind of sacking should only happen should you be revealed to have been involved in grave malfeasance.

As far as I know, neither has been. This is bush league stuff.

What media gigs does Ox have left now? Hope he has a plan B.

I have a terrible memory of who was before, but i used to listen every afternoon on the drive home from work until Ox & Marko turned it into a few hours of blokey banter with very little discussion of anything. They occasionally delved outside the footy world into the sporting world of... golf, horse racing or a spot of boxing, ugh.

Hutchy definitely just bought SEN, not sure if he bought it through crocmedia or a seperate entity.

When Marc Allen speaks about golf with KB it's compelling listening.  He acts normally and is exceptionally insightful.  And when he uses wit it's not over the top.  With Schwarz he's arguably the most insufferable announcer I've ever heard.  The show evolved into the most puerile and juvenile show imaginable.  Allen constantly got overly excited by nothing or repeated what Schwarz had said a nanosecond earlier.

Schwarz was harmless and likeable, but had little depth.

I'm not surprised.

I listened for a few minutes just recently. Their "banter" was just plain  stupid and I I wondered how such rubbish could be allowed to continue.

It's not about his being sacked, but the manner of it. Employers have the right to hire and fire, but surely unless there is gross misconduct, firing should be done with some decency.

If that is how it was done, SEN would be a sh-t place to work for the rest of the staff, who now know how their employer operates.

Luckily for Garry Lyon, who with Timmy has had worse ratings than Ox and Allen, while being paid a truckload more, he is mates with Hutchy .

Great way to get staff morale up with that insensitive departure of two loyal employees.

Nice Xmas present for their families.

I still respect the Ox, his football knowledge and its implementation. He regularly proved that in his play and field orientation.  I'd bet his 'scripts' were pre-ordained by someone who had some envy of his credibility.

I dunno. I loved the Ox on SEN. But at the same time, its a contract. The contract expired.

Putting the human side into it, if they knew they were going to get rid of them, surely give them time to farewell their loyal listeners properly.

Just watch this space...

They have been angling to get Hird on, it won't be drive time but they did a nice little softener with Mike Sheahan and Lyon using him as some kind of expert on something that slips my mind now. There was no context just an excuse to test the waters.

That will be the end of SEN for me...

Agree totally with this, Allen is good on golf.

The 2 of them together was a vacuous few hours of radio...they should have sacked the person who came up with the idea of pairing them.

Agree, that was poor form and also treating the listeners with contempt.

Hird on the Radio

i could imagine Hutchison wanting that...

As inane as it was, Ox and Allen seemed to fit the demographic - if the majority of callers are anything to go by.

I enjoyed some of Ox's footy insight.

Very ordinary effort by SEN.

I used to work somewhere that when they sacked someone they were escorted of the premises for fear of damage or theft.

That's quite common.

In the mines, an immediate escort off site is standard practice for someone who is terminated, for any reason.

Particularly in my game, where explosives security is involved.

Agreed.

The dynamic of those two together doesn’t really work (not to mention the fact that Mark Allen has always rubbed me the wrong way).

Schwartz is at his best when he’s paired with the ‘straight-man’ like Francis Leach or Huddo.  That dynamic really worked IMHO, as their respective personalities and skill-sets covered most bases.

Totally understanderable in the mines, but just shocking treatment from a radio studio, when no warning was given at all

Hutchison has no social skills at all.

He is 10 x worse than the Ox on air if you have heard him on Saturday Mornings.

He is just a mouthpiece for McDonald’s Advertising...

I wouldn't say it's the beginning of the end for SEN, as they are probably already on that track, but with Hutchy now pulling the strings, I can see this heading south quickly.

Pathetic treatment of two loyal servants. Always liked the ox, a genuine bloke, whose love for the dees has always been evident.

What a disgraceful way to terminate employment.

Croc of sh$&@

Agree entirely with the sentiment, but this is pretty standard corporate practice these days.

I guess organizations have been burnt by employees who poach significant IP such as corporate stratigies, client lists etc once they understand they are no longer wanted, however in my experience, the type that do that usually skeem and jump ship at the time of their choosing before they are pushed.  The organizations probably wage that it's good risk management, though I really do think they pay the price in the medium to long term through lack of staff loyalty and morale.

I loved the Ox as a player, but although I didn't listen to him on SEN, my respect for him has only deminiished for him in recient years.  As good and intelligent he may have been as an individual player, I don't think he was or is now a great team player for the MFC.

I loved the OX on a Friday after noon, when the footy is on.

Sen end for me:( Poor OX maybe he could get a job at the Dee's?

Id really like a FM station that had Francis Leach and say, Bob Murphy doing drive time radio. I like the Ox but I find the whole station 90% driven by dumbf##ks.  Being in touch with my grump side, I can normally only last 20-30 minutes till Marko sh!ts me. I dont think it has to be dumbed down that much but a smarter (more grown up?) take on sport couldnt go wrong.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
