I just remember years back the mummy boy Anthony Rocca, he turned out okay as a footy player.

He's home in Melbourne so hopefully those issues are behind him.

He was good for my dream team for the 2 games he played last year, he has talent.

Political?  Or are you referring to political correctness?

Can you expand on this? Why does Watts' departure lead, in your view, to an expectation that the midfield will be more attacking? I don't understand where you're coming from.

Neither do I. Doesn't make much sense.

You don't hold out much hope due to something you admit is "hearsay" ?

Even if it is true that mere fact would mean nothing.  New players live together at all clubs.

Living with someone doesn t mean you endorse, or are even privy to their activities.

I worry about the mindset of any player who is that much of a mummies boy that he can't bring himself to be away from her, but if he gets fit and establishes himself in the senior team, it will be yet another great pickup by our recruiting team.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even those opinions that you dont like.

I too hope Harley is fine. He is a Demon now after all.

Thats all I care about.

Rage away.

Well put, the rest of the flotsam of comment is not only negative but also, none of our business.

It may in fact have been another contributing factor in his desire to leave.

His potential far outweighs the 2nd round pick we would have got for him.

Why sell off a quality kid when you would get well under what he is worth?

Just needs to stay on the park

Can find the ball, and is a fantastic kick.

This may just be the year he "arrives"

Depends on whether he plays

Quality means nothing in the grandstand

...absolutely spot on 'ProDee'.

Many years ago I moved interstate and worked with a small group of people, a couple of whom were said to be big smokers and inhalers

I started going out with a local girl who was surprised I didn't even smoke cigarettes let alone anything else. The word around town was that I was big time into it.

It was a great life lesson...if you don't know, you don't know.

Or Jeff White. I remember Gerard Neesham saying how immature he was for admitting that he sometimes spent time in his car crying when he was at Freo.

He turned out to be more than handy...

You're dead set correct in that Pro.

My squeeze would Bobbit me if some of my activities came to light!

How long until Balic makes his Demon debut I wonder...   competition for spots is tough but hes putting his hand up most weeks.  Seems to be a goalkicking machine at VFL level.  That would fit in nicely with our  frenetic attack if he can bring it to the AFL.

6 goals, 1 goal. 1 month injury lay off. 1 goal, 1 goal, 3 goals.

Wouldn't exactly call him a goal kicking machine.

Can find a mark and find the ball, which I think puts him in line for backing up Melksham or Petracca's spot. I doubt his lack of fitness will allow him to really excel as a pressure small/mid sized forward to take Spargo or Hannan's spot.

This year for Balic was really about adjusting to life back at home and as an AFL player. Signs were good in December but he's had some injury niggles after the first couple of VFL games.

Balic is difficult.. could end up too good for VFL but can't crack the AFL team.

Next six weeks will tell..... as I have posted elsewhere, if his form improves and he can't crack it for a senior game I expect him to look elsewhere next year.

Nothing wrong with that .. we gave him a year..... so far he has been a little under par on fulfilling his side of the bargain but only a little.

He won't walk out on us a year after coming back from Freo. AFL footy doesn't work like that. I could see him signing a contract extension sometime before the VFL finals once we get some big names signed.

Are you suggesting he may take Spargo's spot, when Spanky needs a rest?

Did we take him to fill out our salary cap space?

I can't see Balic getting a game at AFL level until he shows he can play decent midfield minutes.

As Goodwin has shown with Tyson & Garlett, he wants players who can play a variety of roles. Balic won't get a senior game playing as a permanent half forward in the VFL.

I have no issue with the decision to recruit Balic, particularly on a one year deal, but he seems a fair way down the queue for senior selection at present.

The sign of a good club is to have good depth. That is what we are improving. That means reasonable players won't always get games.

44 into 22 doesn't work.

Yeah true,   thought he had kicked more than that...  12 goals in 5 games is a nice return though.

I bet he will make it at AFL level and be a very good player... this kid is no Viv Michie/Aiden Riley.

There’s very little chance that our blessed run of injuries will continue.  Balic, Tyson, Jeffy, Weideman, etc will all have an opportunity at some stage.

Balic was essentially out of football last year and this year he's been given the opportunity to settle in which allows the club can see where he sits, I think he will get another year and that he could become a handy player for us, he really is like a first year player and will get a look in when the club thinks he's ready.

It's not always a situation of players competing with other players for a spot, sometimes players move to a different position or suffer a loss of form or are injured, if he's good enough something will open up for him and he'll get a game. Look at Bull Smith, how many on here would have thought he'd be in the side and playing well at this time of the year, who was he competing with, Pedo, Sam or did a need arise.

Not quite ready yet, is our man, Balic. When he is : Dee-molition continues.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
