WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO

I really loved the looping handball he did into space to lead a player into an open goal, I think it was ANB who initially called for a handball which would've put himself under a little pressure. Has that footy IQ to know which is a better option and to not be afraid to override more senior players when he's in a better position to sum up what to do.

This kid HAS to play in our side for the remainder of the year.  Was so impressive again on Saturday night - notice how often he got front and square to rove the packs in the forward line?  His goal in the second quarter was exhibit A. We've lacked a genuine crumber like that for years!  Jeffy relies more on leg speed to get out into the open for his goals and crumbs the odd one but Spargo has pure football nous.  Add to that his competitiveness, decision making (very poised for a first year player) and ability to tackle, and you've got a very handy footballer.  Here's hoping that they don't drop him for the rest of the year unless he needs a rest.

Great awareness and vision in close coupled with an excellent side-step and lateral movement- has the makings of a very good midfielder.  May or may not play out the season in the 1st (fatigue, injury, etc.) but I’ve seen enough to be excited about 2020+.

It’s great to have 2 newbies in Spargo and Fritsch that know how to use the ball. Because of that they don’t have to have a zillion possessions to impact.

Spargo seems very focussed, concentrates and doesn’t go in for extravagant celebrations.

Love watching Charlie and Bayley play. Great recruiting

Love watching the effort of both Spargo and Fritsch. Particularly Spargo as he goes from contest to contest.

You cant teach this sort of timing, decision making, skill and instinct.  Every club will regret passing on this kid... should have been a top 10 pick imho.

He is a classic rover. Performs in bursts, runs hard low to the ground, picks up opportunistic possessions, smart footy brain under pressure and delivers well. Just because he doesn't rack up possessions doesn't mean he is not a revelation.

Give him to McCartney for the summer and lets build his vision and skills. Strength and a tank can come later.

Watch how Tracca seeks him out after the goal. Great leadership. He is fast becoming the "papa bear" of the forward line - the one who pats them on the head for good efforts.

think he has a big future and agree with you  but not this part. His vision and skills seem ok. His strength ( especially kicking) and tank need serious upgrade. Looking forward to seeing him with a second pre season into him.

I think if you'd put Spargo's football brain and determination into Petraccas body you'd have Dusty Martin.

Petracca is building. Could have had 5-6 on sunday. Panicked after his first miss with that play on kick. It is only a matter of time until he kills a game and absolutely dominates.

Played 15 games.  Shame he didn't get a Rising Star nomination.

Found that surprising, considering he seemed to have as good a game as a couple of nominees, if not better, on a few occasions.

Just remind me again how many games we've lost when this kid is in the side. I would suggest it's smallish percentage. Keep him in. He is our talisman.

Eighteen  years old, first year player and already standing up in finals.  Kicking goals and laying massive tackles despite being the smallest player on the ground.

17 career games for 14 wins.

Hail Spargo.

He's a goer. Talk was he would have gone in the first round if not for a shoulder injury. Can see why. Doesn't get heaps of it, but generally uses it well and is a terrier.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
