14865 is the worst attendance at a finals match since the First World War.

just proves I guess you cannot make a team an instant success supporter wise when you create one in an area we're there is no tradition or support for the code.

It will take 20+ years of sustained success to change that.

And I expect the AFL will be happy to distort the competition for those 20 years. Regardless of whether you think extending AFL this way is a good, bad, wise or stupid idea, it means pain to other weaker teams for the foreseeable future,  but lots of fun and loot for the empire builders.

Just shows they have zero support and west Sydney has zero interest in the Afl in general. Usually for finals esp in a new area that would be a novelty factor where neutrals might come along. 

Pathetic crowd. Assume upto 5K WC fans were there. And taking into account the big crowd the wanderers got in their very first season in soccer this is looking like a disaster for the afl.

Huge Congrats to the Matildas - there'd have to be alarm bells ringing at AFL HQ.

Huge investigation going on at the moment, into these figures by both State Governments, in view of funds being poured into the Code....

Sydney and Adelaide clubs could do a lot more to market their games to away fans.

A few overnight special trains could be a start. Could you imagine a train load of Collingwood or Richmond supporters.

Of course for Melbourne trips we could have special cheese platters in the buffet car.

And do you reckon anything will ever come of it willmoy?

These parliamentary enquiries are often there for show and are often done to justify the existence of those doing the investigating (think Yes, Prime Minister)

The huge TV rights money means that the AFL are going to do whatever it takes to keep that flow of money coming in.  There can be no 'bad' news as such.

Eden to Moruya and was given two GWS memberships for free

I was able to get hold of another 4 to give to my Demon supporter friends for the ACT game

It might be that Sydney (the city) doesn't have much interest in attending anything. The first week of NRL Finals (4 games) attracted only 75,000 in total, with the largest crowd (about 22,000) being in Melbourne. That doesn't mean the GWS experiment is a failure...just that anyone expecting Sydney residents to buy a ticket to watch them might have over-estimated the willingness of Sydney-based supporters to bother turning up.

It also means that they will not survive without investment from the AFL.

Would like to see the TV ratings for Sydney for GWS games and how the product is being received pre and post the introduction of GWS. It can only be television that justifies GWS and probably also GCS as it looks like it will never be attendance at games.

The TV numbers are very low ... you'll have to go searching for clarification though.

but they didn't have to buy a ticket.......apparently there was no shortage of freebies

I should have added that there's insufficient evidence to also claim that the creation of GWS has been a success. 

I've consistently supported the principle behind the establishment of GWS and the Gold Coast Suns, but I'm not convinced that we know yet whether the investments in either jurisdiction will become long-term successes or failures.
