Hopefully could help him get a little more upper body and core strength, he reminds me of Robbo in the way he goes to ground. Needs to stay in contests for longer (as well as working on his kicking, can we get Brad Green to come and help!?). Quite happy with my comment here 😄. He seems to have taken the off-season to improve key parts of his game which include staying in the contest longer. His kicking has finally come good (action was always ok I felt he just needed an adjustment of direction and mindset), but what’s been great lately is he’s tackling. For a player in his position that is huge. 1 Quote

Early in the first quarter someone took a strong pack mark. From the pack emerged this young beanpole. When he did it again shortly thereafter I looked up my trusty guernsey numbers as provided by KC to find out that the guy was called Fritsch. Watched him at four or five other games and while mainly hoping for a break out game by the Weed I could not help but notice that this guy was always a chance for a mark and good goal. Would be interesting to hear from others how he does tackle wise and when the ball is on the ground. There seems to be little doubt that he is the top pick from the VFL for the coming draft. The only question is which club will blink first in fear that he may not get to their pick in the next round. My guess is a late second rounder and if not he will be gone by the time our third round comes around. Rarely can I claim an early discovery but in this instance.......... Well done Mr Fritsch !!! 4 2 Quote

Jaded No More 68,976 Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 His attack on the footy and defensive effort has taken his game to the next level. No doubt being dropped from the team before the prelim in 2018 was something that he hasn't forgotten. I assume the club told him that his goal output will become less of a focus come finals if he can apply more defensive pressure. To his credit he has really done that in recent weeks and it has also seen him be rewarded with big scoreboard impact. 2 2 Quote

Well done DJ that was a great early call on Fritsch his kicking was off last year as was his defensive skills, hard to believe that he could and would turn it around to such a degree in a pre-season. He looks and acts like a man who now knows where he is headed, confident, brave and dependable. Confidence and belief are a powerful serum and now knows that he belongs. love Frittata.!!!🔥💕 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Ended up kicking 59.24 for the season. 12.4 during the finals. 4 6 Quote
rpfc 29,019 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 I was tough on him, and I am always tougher on forwards. I really think in the last two months his defensive work has brought him into the game and got him out of his own head. And Brown and Fritsch are so complimentary as a pairing. I had an inkling and all of Fritsch’s bags were with Brown in the team. 3 1 Quote

I thought Fritsch had some fantastic performances as the undersized FF early in the year without Brown or even with Weid instead. I think it took a while for Brown and Fritsch to find that chemistry that allowed one of them to be the full forward and the other to slot in to a different slot. But they really worked it out in the last 6 weeks or so. It's certainly fair to keep pushing Fritsch to be better defensively and to sometimes hit some ground ball contests with more conviction. But I think he chased harder than he's ever chased in the last month or so, and that Brown/Fritsch combination that often sees them lead to different areas certainly reached its peak tonight. 1 1 Quote

Supreme_Demon 4,133 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 6 goals by "Fritta" in an AFL Grand Final is the stuff of legends! He played a fantastic game! He is officially now the most famous person from Coldstream out in the far East of Melbourne! 6 1 Quote
durango 2,024 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 I guess it is fitting that he has endured some criticism but has improved over the last 2 years and is now the player we as supporters hoped he could become. He has played in a number of positions and has improved his goal kicking accuracy and tackling this year. He is a premiership player for the team that we as supporters love. Finally the Grand Old Flag is flying high or as Neil Daniher said the team members have earned the right to sit at the back of the bus. 1 Quote
dee-tox 4,835 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Bloke kicked c. 60 goals for the season but yet has been subject to some pretty ordinary comments from some so-called 'supporters' all year. Even in the Game Day thread he was subject to some ridiculous criticism because he had a five minute patch where he fumbled a couple of times. A skinny kid deemed not good enough to play TAC becomes the best medium sized forward in the comp. That's an incredible story. 8 6 Quote

I've said it once and I'll say it again. The biggest problem with Fritsch is we don't have two of him. 3 1 Quote
durango 2,024 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) I know that all the players who have worn the number 31 will be very proud of his efforts and Ron Barassi who I met during his coaching period at the MFC will be over the moon and loved the way the boys played and to have Fritsch play wearing a MFC jumper with his and his dads number would make all the more pleasing. dee-tox 4,835 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) Imagine if no one had kicked six in a granny since Jarman? Imagine in the most crucial period of the granny he kicks two in a minute including one that should be in the most incredible goals in finals history? The skill of jumping on Wood's head, falling down, springing up like a panther and kicking a goal was beyond belief. This man wore number 31 with absolute honour. spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Bailey “Fritta” Fritsch is now a legend. He has lifted his game and developed so much this year. The quiet games with missed tackles and inconsistent Goalkicking accuracy has us frustrated. But in 2021 his defensive work improved dramatically and his Goalkicking accuracy has been a key part of our success. Congrats Bailey. A Demons premiership player. An absolute legend. 2 Quote

Emerald 1,744 Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 I'm basically reiterating a post I made on the first page of this thread. I absolutely loved Fritsch's 2017 season at Casey but devastated about it at the same time thinking he would be drafted by another club. Melbourne picked him up in the second round at pick 31. I'd say it was a monumental mistake by other clubs not to snag him before we did. 3 1 Quote
