Congrats

Great Return to AFL Footy

Awesome stuff, what an amazing recruit.

When was the last time we had AA in back to back seasons?

Edit -  I see Jeremy McGovern made the team, wow. And named in the backpocket ahead of Nev Jetta.   West Coast have always been over represented in AA teams and this year will be no different.

How many West Australians are on the selection committee?

Congrats Hibbo, you have been a blessing to the club. Well deserved.

I think Gary Lyon was the last one PA.

Just reward for Hibbo who had an outstanding year.  I'd hazard the guess that he exceeded the expectations of even the most talented Demonland recruiter / selector.  Great achievement Hibbo!

Excellent!

He only played 18 games this season and was still AA.  Somewhat of a quiet achiever.  Always gets the job done.

Gone unnoticed in the aftermath of Saturday but he was also nominated for MOTY on Saturday.  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2017-08-29/michael-hibberd

Well done on a great first year with the Dees.

An amazing year - especially considering his interrupted start to the season.  I remember him saying he was very frustrated with the club fitness and medical team for holding him back, but full credit to them as well!

On a side note... Clayton Oliver would not have looked out of place on that bench instead of Matt Crouch.

Fantastic year from him. From his first game he looked like he belongs. He's my pick for B&F this year.

Well done Hibbo a great result. I can just heaar Collingwood bleating because they didn't get a spot and happy McGovern was selected instead of Jeremy Howe in the other back pocket.

Congratulations Hibbo reward for a great year

I find that the one out of place is Dylan Shiel. Sure he's a good player, but how he made the 22 is very questionable. Clarry had a better year than him and wasn't even named in the squad of 40.

But alas, i'm still more angry at the obvious to be too concerned with the increasingly worthless AA circus.

Oh they are bleating alright. Told my husband to put a sock in it. I still haven't forgiven him for his gloating on Saturday. He will be in my bad books for a long, long time.

Well done Michael Hibberd. You were in my top six every week once you came back from injury.

Sorry you had to wear that hideous blazer.

He gloated? Booooooo. I watched with my Collingwood supporting brother who was almost sheepish and apologetic about it.

He is trying to change his tune and tell me that he really wanted Collingwood to lose as he has seen how dirty I still am and realises my bad mood is not going anywhere fast. Well bad luck - I saw the gleam in his eye when the siren went off and the fist pumping. I wasn't at the game but sitting in ICU beside one of his sick family members side (also a Collingwood supporter). He watched the replay in front of me when I specifically asked him not to - so its going to take a lot for him to redeem himself.

Congratulations to Michael Hibberd.

Definitely deserved to be an All Australian.

He was a great recruit.  Had a fantastic year. Probably B&F runner up behind Oliver.

I'd prepare those divorce papers.

That sucks. I can imagine it would be really hard to balance your own excitement against your other half's bitter disappointment, but you'd hope he'd be a touch more sensitive.

My wife isn't in to football at all - sometimes I think it would be cool if she was, but it's stories like this that make me grateful that she isn't. I doubt my family would be able to withstand both the adults getting worked up over it (because I definitely do!)

Extremely well deserved.  Is already up there as one of the best half backs we've had in decades.  His run and carry, searing left boot and defensive abilities have all combined to make him one of the first picked on the team sheet.

Not surprised Jetta and Garlett missed out, but good reward for them to be named as part of the 40 man squad.

All the more remarkable as he has had to do it along with Nev in a feckless defence structure.

Great highlights reel on the MFC site:

Lots of examples of some absolutely fantastic field kicking in there, which was an element of his game I thought fell away at the end of year. Reckon there is a good chance he was cooked after his layoff and slow intro to the year - but his contested efforts and intercept marking remained top notch.

Absolutely loved that goal in his first game. I definitely want more of that!

I think he had won most of us over in his first 5 minutes in the jumper. Well done Hibbo, great season. Bring it again next year please!

Yep, our best half back flanker since Brett Lovett (no. 17), who was not as explosive or quick as Hibberd, but who was ultra-consistent over many years, a great reader of the play and very creative with both hand and foot. A master at playing off his direct opponent.

Let's hope Hibbo can put a few consecutive years of high performance together like Lovett.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
