GAMEDAY - Round 23

Featured Replies

Our captain will be breathing fire today!!

No one on our list deserves it more than Nathan Jones.

No longer nervous,  just excited to see this  great man lead his men out there today.

There is no way I can deal with not seeing us play again until next year. Let's get her done

The closer it gets the more I'm shittin myself.

A rum in the morning has never tasted so good.

Just get it done dees.

Working all day today unfortunately. Can't even call in sick as the better half would then demand my presence at an afternoon bbq. It seems I'm stuck with occasional score updates on the app and if we have a loss I'll be doing the same tomorrow with the Adelaide game :-(

Just get it done today boys so I can watch the replay at 2am a happy man.

absolutely packing it...

pretty confident, as per demon77, that jones will NOT allow us to lose today

Thats an interesting aspect. He needs to bring the effort/effect of that suns second half, but from the outset. We have shown we CAN be mercenary and we need to be today ( good practice )

Just put these filthy interlopers to the sword early...and then bury the bastards !!!!

Loved it back then and it's pumped me up so much I'm heading to the gates now!!!

I want to see watts breathing fire. After all he's copped and the team has copped. Beating the pies the team who attacked him to lock up finals

if jack can't find motivation to rip a game apart today, he never will

I expect the boys to play to the occasion and et the job done. Just hope all as many Melbourne fans possible turn up and cheer them on.

Dees by 30 points.

Harmes, petracca, hogan all kick 3

nathan jones guides us home with 35 touches and 2 goals

Watts, Garlett & Pedersen all kick 4

I'm quietly confident. They are missing 7-8 of their best side.

Meanwhile we are basically full strength with Viney not getting up.

I think we'll come out like we did against Port & StKilda!

Nervous about Collingwood's pace among their small forwards. Clearly they brought in Kirby to try and expose Jetta, Salem aND Oscar's lack of pace. Rather than going with another tall in Reid. Hope we can keep the ball in the air and deny them midfield possessions

Don't worry about who they are missing Mud as it always seems that have the opposite affect on us.

Its all between the ears.

Lets hope they r switched on from the opening bounce and just keep going for 4 qrts.

Do it for jones , the lad deserves it. May not be able to watch, too nervous. Might get a tooth pulled instead!

Relax. We've got this.

Happy to relax at 4.30 pm.

Can't  now.

No injuries, no stupid suspensions please...oh and a 10 goal coasting win would be nice.

Dont know why so many of you are worried. We are playing half a team whose season is already over. Dead-man-walking Coach etc etc

Have not felt this confident since the last time we played North.

But seriously your first sentence summed it up pretty well. We will win, Jack will kick 2 goals and Tyson BOG.

One of the best AFL club promos ever. Still gets the Demon heart beating faster.

Yeah nervous AF right now

Had a weird dream about the game last night. So nervous with so much at stake. Remember the 1987 game at the Western Oval. Such a fine sunny day it was.

I was at the Western Oval Match in 1987. Today doesn't have the same feel.

1987 was at a suburban  oval which Demons  had to win after a long run .of wins. And was dependent on Hawthorn beating Geelong.

If Demons lose today, they will in all likelihood still make the finals.

The last few weeks i have written we will see how much the boys want to play finals. Well today will definitely will tell us.

21 players when running out today just need to look at the person they will be running behind today wearing the number 2 jumper. I know Jonsey has played finals for us but if anyone deserves to be there its him. He has stayed loyal to us and has led this club well.

also it would be great for someone like watts to reap the rewards and for Jesse to at least have something go right for us this year.

Collingwood will want to wreck it for us but I hope at the 25 minute mark at the final term we have an enjoyable lead and can sit back and smile we are playing finals footy.

Will be at the Cameron Rayner Cup at the Gabba. Earphones in of course listening to our game. Very exciting times. Bring it on.

Extra motivation for both to play well.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
