Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wouldn't have though so but Durrrwayne Russell should know the players, he called T Mac James McDonald during the call.

Not the right thread, but WTF I might as well bring up my 300th post as off topic as most of the others...

Cam Mooney on Bounce (kids made me watch it I swear) made a special effort in referring to Tom Dyson. If I was a teammate i'd be calling him Tom for the rest of my days.

From my recollection he generally only uses a full straight arm if the opposition ruckman raises his knee to push him away from the ball.

A New addition to rule - 11.3.5

1. The Player shall not be permitted to block an opponent’s Muay Thai knee to the sternum in a centre bounce contest.

"They're difficult ones for the umpire to pick up, especially in the centre because if you imagine what's happened, they've bounced the ball and they've backed out so they're only a small distance away from the play," Kennedy said.

Huh? They are right on the spot, so that makes it difficult for them to see? Should have gone to SpecSavers ...

That line of Kennedy's is the truth, but not the whole truth. He forgets to mention there are two other field umpires out there. The question he should be asked is why the umpire who undertakes the bounce is the controlling umpire? Why not make sure the umpire who bounces does that task properly and moves away safely and leave the officiating of the immediate contest to the remaining umpires?

So now MFC gets a rap over the knuckles because Max talked about infringing!

"THE AFL has written to clubs warning them that public commentary about umpiring will be closely monitored after Tigers coach Damien Hardwick and Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn were outspoken on the standard of officiating last week".  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-18/watch-the-umpire-commentary-afl-warns-clubs

For mine that adds insult to injury!  He didn't complain nor criticise the umpires like Hardwick did.  He simply stated he didn't understand why he was infringing.

Time and time again it seems it is when someone at the Dees is seen to 'step over the line' that the AFL act.  What about the running commentary recently from coaches (Scott, Buckley, Scott, Beveridy) on MRP cases?  No, not a word from the AFL there!  Use MFC as the 'sacrificial' example seems to be their motto!

Apples and oranges. Hardwick to a blatant whack which was a pretty idiotic thing to say. Max simply wanted clarification on what he was doing wrong, after all he's the one who has to play with the rules in place. Ridiculous

Heard Gil McLachlan this morning on 3AW re the Brad Hardie rumour on Ross Lyon to Collingwood.

Suggested they may have to consider removing accreditation of 'journos' and commentators for peddling false stories.

FMD are they now the Gestappo? It's Orwellian by any standard. You will only publish what we deem to be the truth. This is happening with Twitter, Reddit, Facebook and youtube already.

The world is heading down a very slippery path. We need more free speech not less.

i'm on board with Gil, there has to be some accountability, and journos bleat like lambs when criticised  (robbo a prime example) but they really do harm with some of the crap they peddle. and hardly Gestapo, if someone is talking crap about you you're simply asking them to leave your house. nothing says they cant keep writing.

Removing someone's accreditation is not the same thing as censorship. Anyone who has been accredited has been given access which most people don't receive. It's therefore a privilege. With that privilege comes responsibility, one of which is not to make stuff up.

If someone wants to make stuff up and publish it there are plenty of places to do so which don't require accreditation, such as social media, like Twitter and Facebook.

And just to draw a parallel, I believe Demonland's administrators will withdraw a person's privileges if that person posts stuff they've made up on Demonland. I think Gill McLachlan is just  following the excellent standards set by Demonland.

I'd say our club has been very diplomatic during this process, Maxxy was a little cheeky but didn't outwardly say anything derogatory.

And following the response from the umpires as well they've taken the, "ok we understand" stance but internally they must've been shaking their heads.

And there is the problem, was it pre meditated umpiring. One of the footy shows suggested clubs had complained to the umpires department about Max. If the umpires department directed this we have a serious problem. Certain clubs would be controlling umpiring. Fantastic.

If the maggots threw the ball up straight Gawn wouldnt have a 100kg 200cm monster jumping over him as he bent backwards trying to tap the ball. Surely you are allowed to protect your head?

No, they just said that they believed some clubs had complained about his rucking.

This actually could be a serious issue and needs investigation after the season has finished.

If umpires have been directed to penalise a player, we have a real problem.

The Club should look into this after our season has ended.

It is very strange to say the least.

As corrupt an organization as the AFL will always bow to the whims of their favorites.  And if one of them complains about someone at an 'also run' club then they will jump to attention.  Pathetic.

Too true. Scott and Scott seem to be free to say what they like without sanction.

Of all the most popular and indeed intelligent players to try to, what could only be called intimidating ,bad sporting type tactics by the controlling body, mind you, is just mind numbing. If this is what is going on!!!

The poor bloke has had numerous knee operations over several years and is close to being one of the best Ambassadors of the game.

Apparently Port didn't read the memo about ruckman 'straight arm blocking' as Paddy also gave away 5 frees on Saturday!  https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/max-tax-the-ridiculous-ruck-rule-set-to-impact-paddy-ryder/news-story/ac5459c91203b1bd694b77cb66dc34ff

David King is talking sense on this one:

“(Paddy) is not really disrupting the opposition ruckman. He’s hanging his arm out, but he’s not really pushing. It’s a protection mechanism and a balancing action.”

And amusingly and disturbingly he says:

“We saw Max Gawn at training last week and he had his arm in a sling.

It is bizarre when last year's AA ruckman and this years main contender are being penalised for a techinque infringement that has never happened before.

Umpires should enforce the rules, not change the interpretation 2 weeks from finals against 2 of the premier ruckman.  Just ridiculous.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
