I am confident that this will get done. As I understand it, just haggling over the price.

I think it will be pick 31 or 33 that goes to Norf.

Not both? you're thinking just one pick?

I'm going to take a wild guess that we are holding our set of 2nd round picks in case a specific combo is needed for either bundling an upgrade to a first rounder or some more pick-swapping shenanigans.

It would be unusual for Jason Taylor to not have identified a target or two of particular interest in the first round, so if we need to get to a higher point in the draft we'll do it.

By the time the dust settles on draft night, we might actually take no selections in the second round at all, never mind our current three!

I think it will just be one or the other. Not both.

Well they have pumped up Essington to almost premiership favouritism based on Peter Wright and (possibly) Josh Dunkley.

King's done a massive 180 on us.

In 2018 he was the leading fan boy in the media massively pumping up our tyres and only too willing to claim all the credit when we beat WC late in the season to seal a finals birth.

Now he doesn't rate us - and you could argue rightly so.

Ofcourse it could be sour grapes for losing his key forward.

So have we actually started a discussion with nth about Ben? I'd assume we had but I have heard nothing only that it will likely get done. If it doesn't we are going to have egg on our faces.

I think he has reasonable grounds to not rate us
After looking the goods late in 2018 the MFC has fallen back into its comfort zone of MEDIOCRITY

Why would anyone trust or rate the club after the inconsistent effort of results of the last two seasons

Plus some players that were expected to improve haven't - others that were performing well then have regressed horribly

He is calling us out on what he says - a very average team delivering very average results

Time for the boys to prove that his 2018 assessment was right

This is a good thing.  King is a horrible judge

Of course there's been discussions, I have a feeling the AFL might have told both us and North to hold off on the trade until 'prime time' tonight. Even if North end up saying no to our final offer, he's out of contract and won't be going back to North, we'd either pick him up in the draft or PSD and I highly doubt anyone else would touch him because they would have wanted to do all the medicals etc.

Head like a smashed crab, geez he could play when he wanted to though, 152 goals in 41 games, of which 33 were losses.

If this is accurate, Mahoney / Taylor have something up their sleeve with the picks we have

Ben Brown

Melbourne and North Melbourne are still haggling over Brown’s worth, though the kangaroos have resigned to only securing picks within the second round for marking forward. A wide variety of players, including Alex Neal-Bullen and Aaron vandenBerg, are believed to have been offered by the Demons as part of the deal but were turned down by the Kangaroos. Melbourne has five choices between picks # 28 and 50 and could pool several of them together to close a deal by tomorrow night. – Riley Beveridge

He kicked 60 goals a season for 3 out of the past 4 seasons. If he added 45-50 goals for us in 2020 we probably win 2 (arguably 3) more games and are a bees d away from top 4. To say he doesn’t put us in the premiership window is a limited argument.

On the other hand, not adding either another key forward OR a goal-kicking small means we are reliant on our current set up adding another 2+ goals a game (on average) in 2021. I’d take the punt on Ben Brown For 2x 2nd founders of it comes to that.  Have to do everything we can to win a flag with Max & May at peak age.

i somewhat agree but the reason we were [censored] last season is our coach having no idea and our lack of speed across the field.

Which BB won't help.

Interesting a side like Carlton which is probably a quicker side than us, said they needed more speed and together with the Saints, have brought in a number of quicker players over the last 2 years.

ON AFL Trade Radio, North have offered Jadyn Stephenson a 5 year deal with talk of a 2nd round pick.

How about Brown to Melb, Stephenson to North and our (worst) 2nd round pick to pies (because they're campaigners).

Yep, changes like the wind. And reckon who he supports definitely has a say in this.

So bring back Frost and Preuss then with 26 and 31 instead of BB? I hope we just do whatever the damn trade is whether it's 1 or 2 2nd round picks with a pick coming back our way, and we have a kpf next year. Amost any trade result is better than having Frost and Preuss/Tyson on our list instead.

Still like Frosty as a footy player. I suspect that this will be the making of The Beast, as well.

A deal will get done and Brown will be a Dee, patience. As a supporter I don’t care what picks we give up, it won’t be a first rounder so who cares.

We could offer North Mr Never Quite Ready (the Weed).

North Melbourne and Melbourne are close to a deal to send Ben Brown to the Demons for an exchange of a suite of picks.

The deal, which is agreed in principal, cannot be lodged until later today after an AFL briefing.

The deal will centre on North giving up Brown and pick 28 and receive Melbourne’s pick 26 and either pick 31 or 33.

The clubs will also swap future late round picks.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
