I'm very worried about TMac and his salary biting us. Did we get ahead of ourselves after 2018 trying to lock in a dream team that not only stagnated but went backwards?

We gave TMac a contract extension at the start of 2018 before his value peaked. We've had plenty of 'gun' players turn to crap immediately after signing long-term contracts, but he isn't one of them.

We might try but I doubt he will sign for more than 2 years ie to when he reaches FA.

The norm with player manager's is to have the best players contract only to year 8, their FA year.

He could do a 2 year extension with an option for another 2-4 on top, that type of deal will become more popular. Gaff and J Kelly started that. Either way, if we could get him signed until 2023 that’s long enough for now!

It’s good to know we can sign our highest priority acquisitions but we need to get rid of Tom’s contract. It’s dead money that we just can’t carry.

Whether it’s front loading existing deals, extending current players or even just signing delisted or mature age players there’s so many ways to use the cap space.

Honestly, we're in dreamland if we think Tmac & Preuss are worth a first rounder. It does not matter how many second, third or fourth round picks are thrown in. Sure GWS might have a need for a ruck and perhaps a forward or defender but neither would go for a second round pick on their own Preuss might get 3rd round. Neither player could barely get a game this year. If by some chance GWS fell for this we'd definitely be paying for Tom's salary.

I agree they're not worth a first round, but Preuss would be 1st ruck at some clubs.

Not quite

he was not signed until June 2018 and by that time his value had sky rocketed from what it was at the end of 2017.

Timing is everything and we lost big

On what planet are Preuss and Tmac worth a 1st rounder???

Is it April 1 already?

A good planet

Thanks for pushing up TMac & ANB's trade value @traderadio, you guys are bricks!

If you were to replace Neal Bullen with another genuine small forward (obviously T Mac won't be there) then he just might be right...

Not many players on that list like to chase, tackle and apply pressure. that's my big concern. it's all well and good to look good on paper but if the team can't actually play the game plan Goodwin is trying to implement we won't improve much at all.

Agreed. Definitely need more smalls to apply pressure.

Melksham needs a rocket and Fritsch needs to sort out his goal kicking.

Bit of a reach there from Cornes.

Only half those blokes would be guaranteed a game each week with us, let alone stacking up against the rest of the competition.

is this a joke? includes a couple of kids, a couple of blokes we are trying to trade, a gun mid, and blokes who don't try like Melksham. offers very little pressure.

doesn't compare to top 8 fwd lines even with Brown in there

Spargo and Pickett as the pressure small forwards. Could do with another though. Harmes back to the forward line

I think the twitter responses to Kane are more on the money,  BUT,  I would expect significant improvement from Fritsch, Weideman, Kozi and Jacko in 2021 versus 2020 and Brown would be an upgrade on 2020 Tmac. Just hoping for Tracc to maintain 2020 form. If these things happen we are progressing significantly from this year - and with the exception of Port, we were pretty competitive with all those above us.

If not already 100%, it'd be good to get Brown locked in and committed before Roos gets into the ear of Norf officials or Brown himself to change their mind.

Harmes should be in there.

It does if Pickett and Jackson take their games to another level.

So is offloading TMac needed to secure Brown?

If it is Oscar can tag along as well!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
