Altona-demon 321 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/B/Ben_Brown.html Backing Burgo in with a damaged player. 60 goals in that Norf outfit. I think we go for him. Avg 2.2 goals per game. That's higher than: - Tom Hawkins - Tom Lynch Also noting that Jack Riewoldt's best years appear to be 6-10 https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/J/Jack_Riewoldt.html Quote
Half forward flank 1,022 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Gee he was good for a few years, almost unstoppable on the lead. In a way Weid plays a little like him. Runs in a straight line at the ball. Good get at a price, if injury free. Quote
Biffen 12,949 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Brown can only mark and kick goals on a lead? Can we kick properly to a goal kicking target? Quote
brendan 3,456 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Upgrade on tmac see if norf want to do a swap Quote
godees 913 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I’d take him in a second for a reasonable price, if expected to recover from this knee injury. Would add plenty 2 Quote

dee-tox 4,835 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 The question is why was he so pizz poor this season? Injury? Norf gameplan? Finished as a player? Confidence? He's a 200 cm leading forward that has the runs on the board. Worth pursuing. Quote

He had a pretty tragic circumstance in his family and I think this took a huge mental toll on his well being especially being locked away on a hub. Glad he's seeking a fresh start. From our end its definitely worth asking the question? Read some crazy stat that hes kicked 60 plus goals 3 years in a row... amazing. 1 Quote

McQueen 17,867 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Definitely an upgrade on Tmac. We need to go very hard at BB. Quote
dee-tox 4,835 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) He usually gets four free kicks in front of goal per game so that's perfect for us! Edited September 23, 2020 by dee-tox 1 Quote

BDA 23,048 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I think he’s a very good option. Strong mark and an accurate kick. And he’s still only 27. I think he’s worth a second rounder. Not sure how much coin he’d demand but if we can move Tmac on then he would be a definite upgrade. Quote
Red But Mostly Blue 4,632 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I agree with the comments here that anyone who can kick 60+ goals 3 years in a row (??!!) is obviously worth pursuing, but if that's really the case, why would North be so keen to give him up? North didn't kick many goals this year, so I would have thought he might be useful to have around next year? So, what's happened then? Injury? Drama? Finished? We don't need any of those things, as we have enough of each, but if we can do our DD and his body/heart are still up for the job, it might be worth a punt if we can turf TMac - can't be worse, if fit and good to go. Hitting leads on the chest, or hell, even directing the ball anywhere near him is another question altogether... 1 Quote

So not sure he would fit our game plan, either. He needs space to run into and ops are learning to shut down space. It seems he turned down a three-year contract at the start of 2020 worth upwards of $750,000 per season. May be regretting that now. 1 Quote
Swooper1987 3,322 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I'd ask the question for sure. You don't lose your ability overnight, just your confidence. Shaw is a terrible coach and many North players are shadows of what they were under Scott. Anyone averaging better than 2 goals a game over a reasonable length of time can certainly play the game. If he could give us 40 goals a season he'd be twice as good as anything we currently have. 1 Quote

adonski 13,244 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 The 27-year-old's management has been actively shopping his services to clubs including Essendon, Collingwood, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Gold Coast and Brisbane. "Opposition clubs believe Brown's value on the open market could net the Roos a second-round pick." How's BB worth a second rounder when Daniher (last year) was deemed to be worth multiple picks, madness. Quote
