Thats what makes me happy today. Seeing a guy come back from horrendous feet injuries, play in teams that were repeatably thrashed, handed the captaincy when he wasnt ready and at no stage did he ever give up. Loved the ovation given to him when he ran on today and after the game when Robbo interviewed him. Know Watts was rapt to have him play in his 150th. also nice to see Goody go up to him after the game and give him a hug.

I still think he can play in this team maybe forward or int he backline.

I teared up when I saw that. So much love for these guys.

And ... to top off the day ... Daisy signed my member card!!

Doesn't he play for Carlton?

Hibberd!        (but I take your point)

He only missed the first half dozen game of the year, so that was a flying start too...    (But I take your point, Hibbard has been gold - GO Demons).

MFC often/usually get off to slow starts. I'm not sure whether the coaching staff did it in an attempt to reverse that trend, but the team came out onto the ground way later than usual. Well, it certainly worked!!

We can beat GWS they aren't world beaters and we have a good record against them.

rhe only ones who will stop us winning our last 5 games is us. Especially with jones back next week and vince the one after

go dees

Will Vince necessarily walk straight back in?  If we manage a huge win over Norf with no injuries?  If Gus plays a blitzkrieg next week at Casey?

Sue every since we started going to Darwin people have been using our losses the following week to justify their position of not want to sell home games.

The major reason we lost was we were not good enough. We are now good enough and today we won.

Adelaide did appear to fade in Q4, as did we....but both won.

Maybe we should enlist Adelaide's support when we (again?) insist that a Darwin game precedes a bye, for equity and for the benefit of both competing sides

This a premiership winning side. Bring back jones and keep Gawn healthy and we might do a bulldogs...

Don't forget Gus if he can regain his best over the next few weeks

Said it in one. (And some other gubbins)

That wouldn't have looked out of place in a final. We earned the win against what I think is a top 4 side. We did it with brilliance and guts. Couldn't be happier. I place it comfortably in 3rd place in terms of wins this year. Behind Crows and Eagles.

What a year. What a great year. Other years we will be lumbered with some serious expectation. Not this year. This year is already qualified as "that year when" we discovered Tracca, Oliver and others.

Haven't loved footy this much since 2002 when Neita was running around.

I agree best performance of the year considering the amount of players still yet to peak and volume of changes.  It was the perfect response to last weeks performance which is what good teams do.

We have finally proven full strength we are more than capable and exposed Port for the fragile team that they are.

It s hard to believe we are into the last part of July and firmly in the finals race. There have been so many black years I cannot remember the last time I felt this confident.

It's hard to get one's head around it OD. MFCSS still lingers and I get very nervous when we're only 17 points ahead. I have to start believing we can beat anybody. It's just so foreign. But, the single malt helps calm the nerves.

It's a great time to be a Dees supporter.

Go Dees!

Just returned from swanning around Krabi night market very proudly in my demons polo. Couldn't find a sports bar showing the game but managed to install express VPN on my tablet which meant I could watch AFL live app even though I'm overseas. Very proud supporter tonight, feel we can beat anyone when we have a full lineup.

My only concern from this game related to the condition in which Max and Oliver finished. I get the feeling that Oliver may have at some point towards the end, gone to ground and jarred his right knee... he was heavily favouring that leg and keeping it straightened, and the knee itself was very heavily coated in dirt.

i think my favorite play of the day was Hogan's second goal...the way in which he fell off his opponent to gather the ball and run into goal was pure genius!

On this we at least agree. He is so much better than that, which is why I allow him this one week returning from injury to be off. Hogan was as well his first game back, today he looked a lot more like the Hogan we know.

To me you're original comments seemed to remind me of the original Watts bagging we had for so long, where for some reason his bad games we something of a crime.

I think I'm one of a minority who feel that half hearted efforts from any player in our guernsey is unacceptable.

He is extremely talented.

He was also pathetic today, first game back or not.

Let me put it another way. We look headed for finals. Jacks game today would fail in a final.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Oliver didn't have trainers surrounding him as he limped off.

Strange.

The Darwin game was a factor. We normally finish games strongly. A n7mber of our wins this year have been big finishes after we let them jump us early. Today we faded badly. It was a good thing that we torched them in the first half.

Speaking of that first half, I was furious with the umpire assist on two of their three goals. We could have hadva 50+ point lead at half time had they not interfered. Disgraceful.

Still, overall i'm pretty damn happy about this.

If we miss out on top 4 by percentage, the umps are part of the reason. You're right we were on our way to an 8 goal win.

By the way, I absolutely love love love the indigenous jumper. Haven't owned a footy jumper since I was a kid, but very tempted to make an exception for this.

Missus commented that she loved todays guernsey early in the game.

It was in the mail before 1/4 time. Christmas gift, along with some Jesse Hogan stuff.

Being the end of the game, right or wrong, they wouldn't have even noticed him.

They would have been too busy packing up their gear at the final siren to get their shite inside the rooms and off the ground.

In todays game?

I was sure someone would see him limping, and help him off.

Perhaps we could agree to play two 20 minute halves.....

Darwin is a dead spot at the business end of the season

That indigenous gurnsey is so slick too!
I will be purchasing one I think!

Getting back to the thread. Not too many people are talking about how high they rate Port. I rate them SUPER high. They're my pick for top 4 (probably 4th), and have been all year.

There is NOTHING to be angry, sad, or disappointed about from this week. But some posters will insist on being glass half empty.

Ports success is largely due to its non existent injury list.

They had a full side to pick from today. If they missed half the number of quality players we did this season then I wouldn't have them in the 8.

Wasn't it too hot for a polo?? Love Krabi. Best place in the Kingdom.

So I've just started watching the replay, I hadn't seen the first half, now I'm starting to see why there were so many comments on the umpiring. So many insanely bad decisions or non-decisions.

No reward for great tackling, in fact even decisions going the opposite way. It didn't feel this bad in the second half but oh my god I would've been fuming if I was at the ground. Just incredibly bad. The AFL needs to review this game and drop those involved in the absolutely disgusting subpar umpiring.

And wow Ports first goal, blatant free to Frost. Total gift and of course it goes to that thug Dixon.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
