Demonland 74,467 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Dear me ... Why do they keep doing that to us? From a 44 point lead to almost a heart stopper ...
Wiseblood 24,637 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 That, my fellow Demons, was a finals type game. At times it was super to watch, at others times it was a scrappy affair where you needed to put your head over the footy and do the hard stuff. And we won. When Port had a real dip at us, and we all knew it would happen, we didn't drop our heads or move away from the stuff that makes us a good footy side. We stuck to the task, rolled with the punches and got such an important victory for us. One person who I'd like to single out is Melksham. Yes, guys like Hibberd, Jetta and others were absolutely fantastic today and you would argue both would go close to best on ground. But when we needed goals and a calm presence forward of the ball when we struggled to hit the scoreboard, he was the man. He's been criticised this season, and in some ways it was justified, but he is more than proving his worth to our side right now. I'm stoked for him. We are a couple of wins away from playing finals and we've got so much more improvement to come in many players who have missed lots of footy, not to mention our captain returning in a week or two. These are exciting times and how good is it to be a part of? DEMONS!
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 That last quarter was brave. The boys refused to get beaten. They make you proud to be a Melbourne supporter this lot.
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 That's a relief. Most important win of the year by a mile. If Jones is back next week then look out.
jane02 3,796 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I'm so rapt. As promised $50 is on my way to Demonland.

They don't play for themselves, they play for each other, and they're starting to learn more and more what it takes to win games of footy. Port are no pushovers and they were always going to come at us at some stage, regardless of our first half. When they did we had to turn the game into a scrap and we knew that. Port still got a few goals but we stuck to it and the tide eventually turned.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 my 9 point win prediction was wrong. Thankyou Demons for making me wrong. Heart still thumping....needs medicinal tonics !! cheers all
Stingray 157 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I'm totally bloody exhausted. Can only imagine how the lads must be! thank god for hibberd and jetta and lewis' finger tips! Massive. Massive. Massive. Go dees!
What 18,810 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Such an important win. Lose and we were out of the 8, as low as 10th. We are now in the frame for top 4. Melksham 6 goals in two weeks and two months of solid footy, very nice.

Did just play in the tropics plus played so hard in the first half they exhausted themselves. Full credit to Port they played like us in the second half but we did enough to hold them off which is a great sign.
Engorged Onion 10,226 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Such a mature mature performance for such a inexperienced side (games wise) - leadership was shown by each and all. And... I think I may start to give Melksham the benefit - clutch.

old dee 24,084 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 So I guess the anti Darwin brigade will be conspicuous by the absence tonight. Go Dees!
Pates 9,697 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I only saw the second half, looking forward to seeing the first half. We outlasted them in the end which given the return trip after Darwin is a fantastic effort. Concerned about Maxxy, I don't know if it's just fitness or what but around the ground in (from what I saw) he was ineffective. Rucking at least seemed better though. Oliver looking sore after the siren isn't good either, hopefully it's just cramp or a corkey. Very important win.
Deestroy All 14,266 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Positively the worst umpiring ever seen. We should've won by 80. Hibberd and Jetta are brick walls. Have we ever had 2 such consistent defenders? Stoked that the ins got through unscathed. Watts was terrible but he'll be better for the run. Tyson's disposal will end up killing me. Viney, Gawn and Hogan's first half got it done for us. Huge win. So happy.
Chook 15,080 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Percentage or not, there's no underestimating how important that win was for us. I just did another ladder predictor with our win today and wins against North, St. Kilda and Collingwood, I have us finishing the season in that coveted 4th spot. We have it all ahead of us now!

Darwin Factor That maybe the silliest thing you say today . port fought back, they are far from a poor side. Blaming The Darwin trip is rubbish always has been. Good sides win and poor ones don't.

doc roet 1,302 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Guess who we play next week---- Norf--- at last,I hope we give them the biggest hiding ever seen on the planet earth. Thump the living daylights out of them for all the grief they have caused us in the past.

Had an injury worry which slowed him down just before half time.
