Weird is a true kpp. Will Take time but excellent attack in the air n solid hands n kick.

Curnow is undersized kpp. Too big for smalls n too quick for bigs.

Curnow looks a stud n my pick but weid is going to be OK.

Haha i feel so much better about myself after reading the OP.

I often read back through my own post on DL and wish i could take them back, particularly after being sent a message or 3 from my brother telling me to stop posting while im on the gas. 

Even if Curnow ends up being a gem ( he certainly has the makings of a player ), i am confident Weed will also become one. Curnow might have the appearance of coming on fast, but so did Jordan Gysberts and many others. Just give our guy some more time to show his worth.

This might end up being a post you wish you didnt make.... maybe in a year or 2.

It's the goddamn contested marking. Every single week we get flogged in contested marking. It makes you look sideways with envy when young oppo kids pop up and add to the party while ours are praised for their ability to 'bring the ball to ground'. May as well use our first pick on gravity.

I used to have many problems with our recruitment performance but I really can't complain about the last few years - and that goes beyond recruitment.  I don't look too much at the line-up announcements and ins & outs because I feel more than in a long time that they know what they are doing.  Last match was a great example.

Curnow is a real talent. He looks one of the better players of that draft. Drafting isn't exact science and you can't always get the best player. But what we do have is Weideman, and he should develop into everything we need him to be.

When one poses a question like this on a fan forum you're on a hiding to nothing, unless the forum's player is in the positive column.

I think it's a fair question and the type of question supporters leaning on a bar after the game may discuss, ergo, it's thread worthy.  That said, I'm also in the camp that says this question won't necessarily be answered until after their careers, which could be 12 years from now.  Some supporters may think 4 or 5 years will provide the answer, but the safe bet is post career.  Even nearly 9 years on from their draft day some people would say Naitanui should have been taken and others would argue Watts has been vindicated.  In reality, there's still much to play out between those two.

There is a view that Curnow slipped due to his off-field indiscretion, but my gut feel is that we always had Weideman as our main target.  You don't draft a key tall on how good they'll be in year two, you draft a key forward on what they'll offer in year 6 and beyond.

Weideman showed in that one quarter at Casey the talent he has.  All that's missing is a body and experience.  Both take time and we're in a position to give him that time.  

So, to answer your question, it's too early to say.  Curnow looks great and there's no doubt he and Hogan together for a decade would be a prospect worth salivating.  But that doesn't mean Weideman was the wrong call.  At this point, there doesn't need to be an either/or.

People forget Weideman only just turned 20, in two years time he will be only 22 with 3-4 years in an AFL system, just think about that for a sec. He's a baby for god sake.

Hogan was leading the league in contested marking at stages 2 years ago.

We're playing better footy now that our contested marking numbers are low.

Come finals Hogan will be match fit and humming. We will have the best of both worlds.

O-Mac played on Curnow for much of the day and I reckon Charlie benefitted from that.

He was always going to be quicker and more agile on the lead and when the ball hit the deck. And Oscar again failed to kill what should have been some elementary aerial contests for a defender.

Curnow certainly has talent, but he was playing on a young and inconsistent key defender. 

As for Weid. He'll be fine.

what is a contested mark worth. We won the game on the weekend. Everytime we brinhg the ball to ground I think watch out. When Carlton marked, they went back play stopped a bit and we got back to position.

Our ability to bring the ball to ground correlates with our wins this year, and that requires anticipation and speed.

Remember we have 4 starting midfielders out on Sunday and shouldn't have won that.

I remember the saints had Loewe and Lockett, the two best contested marks in the comp and everyone was certain they would win the premiership. It didn't happen.

If your half backs and mids control and neatly deliver the ball, and the forwards lead well, contested marking is far less of an issue, whilst as in defence generally one wants the defenders to spoil not go for the contested marks.

Because the FD didnt consult with you before drafting the Weed.
