JKH signs one year extension

Featured Replies

Must say I'm a little bit surprised that it's come at this stage of the season- but good on him!

Clearly a player Goodwin sees great potential in.

(That clown that sent that letter to David Schwartz would be livid!)

Nice. Always believed he will make it, and its pretty obvious now that the coaches  like him.

His form as a mid in the VFL has been phenomenal, and the reality is that Lewis, Vince, Jones won't be around forever.  We must continue to build depth in the midfield.

This will be another Brendan McCartney success story,

Fingers crossed. Even though racking up big numbers in the VFL isn't the be all and end all (think Magner, Valenti) it seems like the coaches are happy with the role he's playing and he'll get another crack at the seniors in the next couple of weeks IMO. Particularly with these injuries to our midfielders, it's good that he's there as an option.

I still remember him kicking 3 second half goals against the Tigers in a pre season game about 3-4 years ago.

A few years back his VFL form would of warranted a 3 year extension, 1 year works for both parties.

Think the club should've waited until the end of the year. Thought he would be a prime candidate to delist, and then possibly re-rookie. He's showed nothing at AFL level so far.
Hoping he proves me wrong and starts having an impact when he gets his shot. His VFL form has been solid so he will get another shot at AFL level soon you'd think. 5 years is a long time on an AFL list for a small to not establish themselves, usually that amount of time is for developing talls.

Will make it - bigger body now...and quick

Definitely not quick. Not meaning to sound rude, but go so far to say he's one of the slowest indigenous players I've ever seen. That's part of his problem IMO If he had speed it would add so much more to his game, as he would become dangerous up forward or becoming an option. Due to his lack of pace, his last chance to make it now appears to become an inside ball winner like he's been doing in the VFL. Not sure he can make it doing that as others on our list are far ahead of him in that regard.

Best of luck to him though. He'll be around next year at least so can't say he's not being given a chance to prove himself. Hopefully he is another Jetta type story where he can change positions and develop into a really reliable player.

Quick hands? :)

?

I have always been a bit of a fan but must say the timing of this is quite a surprise for me

I suspect he will get another game or more soon to show his wares, which is why the timing is a puzzle

Still, good luck to him...I trust our management, now

I like this. Gives him a pat on the back, and removes a potential distraction to allow him to focus on improving his footy - but a 1 year deal is really keeping a fire lit under him to perform.

Congrats JKH.

If Goodwin thinks he's good enough to persevere with its good enough for me.

Ok. What the hell.

I'm glad he's staying. But 1 year? Is it a "prove it" contract?

Very interesting move from the club.

If it was McCartney's idea that JKH develop his inside game and transition into the midfield, then he needs a pat on the back. Assuming it was McCartney then we cannot let him leave the club. JKH looks as though he will make it.

Because JKH re-signed or because the moron cant use his membership to get in and watch his potential top 4 side play on Friday :P

Or at least will be given every opportunity.

Yep, reckon he will indeed prove you wrong.

It's an endorsement contract - an acknowledgment that he hasn't done enough yet, but the club still believes he is capable of getting there.

It's not what I'd have done, but one of those things where it's pretty hard to argue with our FD, who are professionals with demonstrable good judgement, who see him operate on a daily basis. If they think he'll get there, I'll go with it.

He can play the year out now without having to worry about his future. Good luck, hope he is able to take this extra opportunity with both hands.

This means to me that only a miracle can now save Trengove.

I'd say that's fairly accurate, it's a way of say, "we see you've got something and believe you can become a player, but you have one and half years to prove it."

He's had a good period at the VFL, I feel a recall isn't far off. He could well turn into the next Nev Jetta type situation. He did have a horror run of injuries after his first year.

They obviously have plans for him. The trajectory of his year compared to others like Pedo and Kent... When he's played and why... They have him earmarked for sure.

Now. Making it work is another thing entirely.

When I saw the headline "Out of contract Dee signs new deal" I'll admit I was hoping it would be someone else, but happy enough to see JKH stick around. He does seem to have a potential "diamond in the rough" kinda aura about him. Someone to at least see what happens with next.

Agree and think he will get a go sooner rather than later, Plapp has this to say about him this week:

Jay Kennedy-Harris: He had 40 disposals, five inside 50s, seven marks and eight tackles. Jay continues to impress at VFL level. He’s played some different roles over the past few weeks. But since moving into the middle of the ground, his game has become rounded, particularly around the contested part of his game. It’s been a significant improvement and he’s really putting his hand up for AFL footy.

Has improved and may improve further in what is a new role for him. Its a one year deal at what we assume is low cost. I cant see him ever being best 22 as we develop but this is another nod at rewarding effort and improvement and deepening our list.

I can see JKH suddenly improving. I watch him "nearly" do some clever things. I believe Bugg and JKH will make it. I reckon Bugg will clean up his kicking and stick his overhead marking, and JKH will just find a calmness in the heat of modern footy and click. I dont have this optimism with Nibbler or unfortunately Harmesy (who I really like).
