Why Jonesy Stayed a Demon

Jones:  "The motivation has always been there to stay loyal and ride out the storm, because I feel the reward on the other side of that, having been through the things I’ve been through will, one, make me a better person and better player, (and) two, it would be far more rewarding than having been able to take an easier option (and) chase success somewhere else,"

Lots of champions have missed out on a flag but there would be few that have played their whole career at a traumatised club.  In that respect, no-one deserves to hold up the premiership cup more than Jonesy!  Integrity plus.

The team is driven and talented and as he says it is in their hands.

He'll have a statue at the MCG one day.

What he says is spot on, I have no doubt that James Frawley doesn't enjoy his premiership as much as a player like Jones would (if he won one at Melbourne).

True...except at this point of time, Frawley has a premiership medallion hanging around his neck and Jones doesn't. The window of opportunity is very small. As a supporter you want loyalty. However do you begrudge Brian Lake?  There is the argument that if good players stay they may help you win a premiership but bottom line is that Lake won medallions at the Hawks and the dogs did not win one whilst he was playing.

A genuine role model. Not just in footy, but in life in general.

Absolute champion

Lake, Frawley or whoever....I think the point is not about begrudging anyone.

Surely the reward is so much better if you've worked your way through and succeeded.

The bond between Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis would be much stronger than with those that have come on board and whilst they add to the mix they're not the foundation of the success.

The man in the mirror would look more kindly on someone like Jones if he gets the ultimate success and even if he doesn't it won't be for lack of trying.

Look at this monumental achievement that flew completely under the radar -  a month ago Nathan Jones became the all time leading disposal winner in the history of the Melbourne Football Club, overtaking Greg Wells.

Heres the top 10 -

  Number     Player
1 5332 Nathan Jones
2 5222 Greg Wells
3 5094 Robert Flower
4 4985 Jim Stynes
5 4939 Adem Yze
6 4636 Todd Viney
7 4483 James McDonald
8 4394 Steven Febey
9 4346 Brett Lovett
10  4299 Stan Alves

What a great video. Jones's passion and commitment to Melbourne has been eclipsed by none. He really makes the star players who left their clubs for better cash & flag chances look like a bunch of pretenders.

No one (apart from Bob Murphy) deserves a premiership medal around his neck more than Jonesy. I really think we can do it within his career, I hope he's still captain if that happens.

Champion of the club, underrated by the entire competition.

Apparently after last nights win Frawley has made himself available to play again.

Fantastic video. Been reading some opposition fan sites & great to see that Nate is so respected across a broad range of fans

Love him he is a true clubman. A premiership would mean everything to him and he's so deserving but if misses out he will still be fondly remembered by not only Dees but by many supporters

There's not much more we can say about Nathan Jones except that his leadership should never be questioned again!

His dream is our dream!

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
