Not a huge amount of info outside of us opening talks with his management and all indications are that he is very keen to stay on at the club.  Good move from all involved as I'm sure there would be considerable interest from rival clubs, so to add a few more years on to his deal (which expires at the end of next year) will be a big win for us.

Yes open them and shut them quickly before 17 other clubs get into him. Looks like a coaches dream, pace to burn, hard at it, very team orientated and nice long kick.

Good to see that we're onto it early. He well and truly deserves the pay rise he'll receive, and there's no doubt he'll re-sign IMO. Loves it at the MFC.

It's only a small thing, and I know all clubs do it, but it's good to see us being proactive.  We're identifying the key talent and making every effort to lock them away long term to avoid the media circus that can inevitably occur if things are left too late.

Now to lock away Salem before the year is out...

No doubt the coaches have identified the key players that we need to lock in, come on Dee's get it done, this one is very important, hard to believe that Jayden is such a tough and talented kid with pace to burn. We haven't seen anyone burn up the wing or through the mid field like him since Tingay.

Precisely. The professionalism continues, and breeds professionalism for the future.

I just can't see us losing any of our important players to another club.

I'm sure thats been said a few times before.

But you're right the playing group seems really committed and connected. I think we've seen clubs build a strong core of 5-10 players to build around for sustained success which we're now seeing at Melbourne.

Hunt is such an important player. Even if he is having a bad game he is the type of player that can ignite a team when it needs it with courages, competitive acts.

I know what you mean. It feels to me like we're a threat to get anyone, even surprise ones. I feel like we have a lot of "gravity" around us. We're that much of a destination club that players nearing the end of their careers, with a coach turnover and rebuild going on, will think of us first as a place to go. If I'm a midfielder, I know Viney, Oliver, Tracca and Tyson will crash and bash and take the big hits. If I'm a forward I know Hogan will get the best defender. I even think in an open market, like Josh Kelly for example... We don't have the war chest that the Roos and others have, or room in the cap... but if we got within cooee of their number, our list and attractiveness mean we're in any conversation immediately, much like the Hawks were for the last 10 years. The flipside of this is the guys we currently have. There wouldn't be a name there that would want to move. Not one in 45.

A harder, better version of JJ.

What a pick up at pick 47!

Pick 57 you mean. Harder, better, quicker... but he's certainly no JJ by foot. Which says a lot about his other attributes.

I really like the litmus test you can apply to any player... Putting their name in front of impartials. For example, on bigfooty, there's a couple of threads going now. One is asking simply "who's the most damaging player in the AFL." The usual suspects, Dusty, Danger, Buddy... but there's always a few ragtag types who throw up names you don't think of. Hunt's name comes up, and not with MFC supporters. I don't necessarily think that's completely accurate... but when it comes to opposition supporters, they're going nuts for him. Oddly the same thing is happening with Oliver vs Petracca. Some people love Oliver the way MFC supporters do, but the majority are more scared of Trac. I dunno, maybe it's because he kicks goals, and they're always what people notice. Personally I reckon most on here have it as Oliver > Tracca.

The other thread you see is the 2013 redraft. Hunt goes as high as 4 or 5 in that. Kelly, Bont, Cripps, Hunt, Merrett, Crouch, Lobb, Taylor, Nankervis, Aliir, Brown... that's sort of how it goes. Again, from impartials. That's the kind of thing... well... you only see from other clubs. We NEVER get those.

If JJ is worth 800k, I don't know how we're going to pay Jayden 7 million.

Relax... he's not going anywhere.

He's part of a journey...it has quite a few on this bus.

He'll be paid adequately.

He'll light up many a game .

All good.

There is a synergy to Hogan, Gawn, Hunt, Jones, Oliver, Petracca, Tyson, Viney, Watts, Tmac and others, they all bring something slightly different, and they are better as a group. What the coaching group has done well, is making them see that they need each other for collective success, while very sure of themselves, none seem to think they are doing it all off their own boot, and i think this will make them harder to poach (short of really silly money). I base this on the goal assist sharing (We are best in league for this, I can only assume that internal metrics value the assist as highly as goal), in media interviews by the players, and the effort they go to reinforce each other on the field.

Betting he stays.

Confident "Hooter" will stay.

We have to keep this guy at all costs. He will be a star in his current role but I get the feeling that he could be groomed for another type of role as he matures and gains more experience. He is by no means a "one trick pony". I dont really know what that might be but I'll bet the footy dept have given it a bit of thought.

Confident Jayden will stay a Demon. He seems to love the place and has many good mates at the club. Good to see the club being proactive in identifying key players to extend contracts for. Along with Gawn, Hogan, Oliver and Petracca, Hunt will be a key signing for our future.

Its also a credit to Jayden that he can go forward and test the oppositions defensive structures with his pace in open spaces. He has reignited us a few times this year doing so.

Would love to see what he could playing in the midfield as well, if it wasn't for that fact we need his pace in defence also.

I'm glad everyone is "confident" he'll stay - I'll go one further and say I wasn't aware that there was an alternative to him staying.

Like I said in the Salem thread, worrying about players leaving is for 2012 era Melbourne supporters.  This bit of news is just business as usual as far as I'm concerned.

GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
