6PR over here reporting that Balic to Melbourne FC looks likely. Fremantle are chasing a second round pick.

An ambitious opening ambit!  They selected him @ pick #38 ie late 2nd round/low 3rd round, has played a handful of games in two years and has application issues.  Hard to argue he is worth a pick better than around #40.

If mfc agree to more than what Freo gave up for him we have rocks in our heads.

He is no Hibberd or Melksham to go for a mid/late 20 pick.

Straight swap for dean Kent?

Jesus. Why on earth would we do that?

I know Dean hasn't had a great year, but surely you would rather give him a shot of rebounding next year compared to selling him off at a completely discounted rate. Do you think the club has give up on him?

Agree..unless a player does very well he tends to go down in the draft pecking order (no longer an unknown)

third round does it for me if we are interested. Perhaps swap our second for their third if that is allowed but he would have to be "issue free" whatever his problems were,

Agree.... Kent played 20 games in 2016.... if we are to trade him it needs to be a little better than this

Picked at #38 in 2015 draft, done SFA since, yet his value has increased? Please.

If they were offered a 3rd rounder they should run with it.

He had a nasty wrist injury that saw him slip a lot in the draft, otherwise would've been closer to 20. If his personal problems are all homesickness related I could see why Freo would want more than a mid 3rd rounder, but they aren't in a great position to negotiate.

He has a busted shoulder, fumbles the ball, struggles to tackle and pressure without falling over either via poor instincts or poor lateral movement and seems more suited as a player who runs hard in to open space than in the way Goodwin operated the forward line this year. I'd expect they'd be happy to let him go for a pick in the 40's.

As Bruce McIveney would say: "Ambitious!"

He's worth nothing more than a token late pick. He's a pick 38 from two years ago who hasn't developed for a number of reasons, so his value has only dropped from there. If he nominates us, we trade pick 60+ or just get him for free in the draft etc. Anything more and we've caved for no reason IMO.

That article he posted is from a rubbish site looking for clicks.

Not only that but it's already been posted, so 'passing on what he has heard' is him just copy and pasting an article of no substance.

I wish people would check this stuff out before posting. It would make life so much easier.

Read what I said....passing on what I was given, NOT what I heard.  I got it from a fellow MFC member via email FWIW.

He's had a couple of lean years but the start of his career hasn't been an easy ride. A good preseason to clear the pipes will have him running on all cylinders. Only then will we be able to see if he regularly gets leather poisoning.

I think Dennis Cometti would have said " A second round pick ?? That's ambitious !!! "

Bruce might have breathlessly said " Harley Balic...... mmmm delicious !!!! "

They want a pick for him that will secure Matera.

Do we want Brandon Matera ourselves?

From reading other forums Freos fans want a 2nd rounder for this guy. Its amazing how biased supporters can be at times. Lucky to get pick 50 for him on current form.

Like somehow Dean Kent on top of pick 10 will make the difference in landing us a gun 21yr old AA kpd!  ;)

He showed enough in 2016 to keep in my opinion. The problem was that 2016 was suppose to be his building block for a break out season in 2017. No way would I offload him nothing. He is contracted for next year, i'm backing him in.

So you're saying he'd fit in well then?

Balic in JKH out ... not suggesting a trade ... just asking would it be a good outcome

I think JKH will surprise a few next season. He developed into a new role and did extremely well in the twos this year.

If he improves at the same rate next season, he'll play most of the year in the senior side.

They want a second round pick! Cheeky bstards. He was drafted with Pick 38 and has only played 4 games in two seasons.

PICK 45 SHOULD GET IT DONE.

And did sfa in the opportunities given at senior level.

Preaching to the choir!

Would much rather Ben Lennon who I think is not too dissimilar, but has been in the system for a while and can't crack a game in Richmond's small forwardline.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast Eagles

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
