Just back from a very pleasant afternoon at the Courg Oval. For the hipsters they have craft beer and for the traditionalists the Coburg sponsors inckude the ETU and the CFMEU.

Game from a Demons viewpoint was scrappy with the on ball strength of Casey finally holding sway against the Coburg Lions. Some of the best play was from the Lions while Casey seemed hard pressed to get the last handball into space.

I watched Weideman closely. For the fist half he played deep forward and was disappointing. Delievry was nothing spectacular but even when he had a one on one marking comp he never really looked like it. Very little leading on hos aprt and often pushed under the ball.

In the second half he was on the ball where he got a few kicks. More worrying was his missed marks in the mid field. On these occasions and in particular one midway through the last quarter he had position and hands to the ball in a small pack but could not hold on. He's not coming back soon.

Hulett if anything was more impressive with a little more bulk and a seemingly better ability to be in the right place for the ball.

I watched for Stretch in hope of seeing some dashing play but it was not obvious.

I'll post some more observations later but all in all a pleasant day that ended with a win.

Thanks to you and to KC too for sharing your observations.

Disappointing words re the Weed - clearly he has lost all confidence and needs a prolonged time at Casey - Jesse returning soon will help his cause.

Also disappointing that Billy Stretch is also not making an impact.  Has he been asked to play a different rôle, which has hampered his confidence too?  I had thought it would be only a matter of a short time before he was recalled.

Is Weed the next Lucas Cook?

We cant afford for that to happen, especially when another high pick, Brayshaw, has huge question marks over his health.

The Weid's struggles are the downside to 'getting games into the kids'. He wasn't ready and when he needed some time away from the seniors, he didn't get it.

Just to clarify Stretch did not stand out to me and I was expecting some good run and carry a la Hunt. That is not to say that he was not a useful close in player which I missed in the scrum of the players surrounding the pack.

Ben K muscled his way around the ball but the game really lacked stand out break away play on the part of the Demons.

Mitch King took a few strong marks.

Even in his first game, Weed showed that he is a far more natural footballer than Cook did in his whole "career", if one could call it that.

As TPF39 has said, unfortunately he has been played in more games and for longer that he otherwise would have this year due to injuries (and other problems) with Hogan, Max and Spencer.

I hope that he can regain his confidence,  and build a body over the off season and come back far more ready to play a bigger role in 2018.

Thanks KC and all other posters, it's always good to get a hard fought win away from home, sounds like JKH & Ben Ken  had great games. Go Casey!!!

Which is why I'd play him in defence.

A good idea i think. He will be a player, of that i have no doubt. But he way down on confidence it would seem. One of his strengths as a junior was attacking the ball in the air and crunching packs. Playing at CHB for a while in the VFL will enable him to attack the ball in the air without the pressure of having to clunk the mark. And his KP would be to negate the opposition forward which if he can do might build his confidence.

It is cliche but none the less true for being so (which i guess is why it is a cliche!) but key position forwards take time, even the high draft picks. Look at Patton, Boyd, McMartin, Moore etc, etc. Hogan is a total outlier. Plenty of time for Weed to come good. We may not even see hi play regular senior footy for a couple of seasons. Which is fine. Pedo is good insurance.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
