Just watching the replay again now and Dermot himself sums it up nicely before the game after a cross from Lynch and Dixon on the boundary - "we have to work with idiots sometimes don't we", could have been talking as much about himself.  I've got to admit that some of the champion past players like Derm, Brown and Carey do give some good insights into what could be regarded as footy smarts.  

It does shiiit me how often the game callers completely stuff up players names during the game, comes across very unprofessional.  The ones that [censored] me off most though are the comentaters like BT who get completely off track and talk in circles for five minutes trying to crack pathetic jokes and completly neglecting what's happening with the game play.

Agree, he's great.

It's even better because he usually gets the "dud" Saturday game, twilight or night game. Which is a game we frequently feature in!

Game day threads everywhere are insane, not just on here. I love reading opposition ones when we win. Or a club I hate when they have a bad loss. 

Adelaide losing to us is a prime example, you go read their thread on big footy and it's hilarious, probably worse than anything you read on here. And they were on top of the ladder. 

Then there's always that one post, when a team is 40 points down at 3 quarter time... "we'll win this." lol no you won't. 

I love it, it's emotional crazyness that doesn't just disappear for ever like when you scream it out at the ground.

Watts kicked 1 goal.  Should have had 2.  He also had 3 goal assists.  He also had a clever tap to Harmes that led to a goal.  And he crashed the pack to allow Garlett to run on to another goal.

Haven't read the last part of this thread. But if I watched the game again, I'm sure I would zone in on a memory of Watts in the pocket at some stage in the 2nd qtr where he waved a vague hand as a defensive effort and let someone run past him straight after. That's why he and Lewis don't get votes. And that is what my post was about - the Age votes. Harmes was just as important as Watts in turning the tide and doesn't get a remote mention. Pedo has being doing the same as Watts in the ruck but doesn't get the same apologies and pat on the back. Hibberd only got 7 as well in those Age votes and played for four quarters. You can't just pick and choose when to compete. That's the exact complaint of everyone on here - we don't rock up switched on. We're not committed. Jack Watts' contribution weighed up against Jack Watts' non-contribution for me adds up to trade.

Yup if it was the only thing he did all day, it just about would have been enough.

Watching the replay, we had almost totally dominated the the third quarter up until that point, but we're getting no reward for effort on the scoreboard.  That inercpt was a 12 point play and more, had GC scored I had the feeling they would get up and about and we could have dropped our heads.  Reality is that we went on to kick another ten odd goals to GC's two for the game, so we certainly still had the tank and the weapons to out score them, but I do really wonder if we could have handled the scoreboard pressure.

Feels like Demon supporters might be taking for granted the fact we are now a high scoring team.... 4th highest in the comp in fact.

This is what we were begging for in the dark days where we struggled to kick 8 goals a game and went full games without any highlights.

Indeed and really appreciating the excitement of it.

It is a problem though that we seem to get scored against too easily at times and either keep the opposition in the game or let it slip too far away from us.  Until we get the ballance right and tighten up our defense just that bit more (it's not like we are bad defensively), we will struggle with consistency. 

Look forward to putting it all together and getting some real runs on the board wins wise.

Further to all the above @Petraccattack, one thing I have noticed about our play this season in particular is that while we have been very good at creating forward 50 entrys and keeping the game played in our forward half, at times we are woefully inefficient at actually scoring, which creates two problems 1.It leaves our defensive half very open for the opposition to get out the back and create quality scoring opportunities from limited entries and 2. We often don't have any score on the board for all our dominance and again letting  the opposition get back in the game when they have the rub of the green for 5 - 10mins.  

Obviously 1. Is somewhat an inherent consequence of playing a high press and very attacking game style, so if we are going to play that way it is somewhat inevitable, though having some very quick players like Frost/Hunt to cover the open ground will help as will players who read the play and position well lIke T Mac and Hibbard.

Once we can become consistly more efficient at picking off targets and scoring from our share of time forward half, we should really be able to put some teams to the sword early in games and set up some easier wins (assuming we don't then sit back and think it's just going to happen like somewhat like the Freo game).

Again balancing the all out attacking with defense, it is encouraging that sometimeswe are getting better at simply controlling the game in between forward thrusts and that was another thing we did well at times in the third quarter against GC (it's just a little hard to know how much of that was due to an incipid oppo on this occasion).

I don't know why but even when we were down by 30 points in the 3rd quarter, I still wasn't that concerned and just had a feeling we'd get straight back in it... we've done that a number of times this year

You have more faith than I @low flying Robbo, at the time, I was getting the feeling that we could have been swamped by an avolanch of GC goals, they way they linked up and penitrated our defense for parts of the second quarter.  Probably also getting psyched out by the comentaters banging on about GC's bye the week before leaving them fresher and also somewhat scarred by our incipid third quarter against Norf the week previous.

So glad the players had more composure than I did.

I pretty much said the same thing as I did here. Gameday threads are a no-go zone and POST MATCH threads are frustrating to sift through.

For those who have been hyper-critical of Lewis' game, he got 4 votes from the coaches and to the naked eye it looks like he would have received those votes from both of them.

As Sylvia Saint said earlier, there are some ripping posters on here and you need to look carefully to find them in some of those threads.  It shouldn't be that way, but I'm not sure what can be done to change it really.

Didn't get to watch the game until Sunday morning, but I was far from enraged with the first half. We were doing so much right but just failing in the execution in our forward fifty. The run on we got in the third and fourth reminded me a lot of our big win over them last year. This game was far less frustrating than the Essendon win. Maybe that was because I already knew the result though.

Plenty of positives to take out of the game, the main one for me being our spread of scores through our forwards and midfielders. We have so many avenues to goal now.

There's a lot to be said about watching the game for the first time already knowing the result. It's a lot easier to be objective when you take the stress and frustration out of it. Even watching a second time after watching it live, you're still going to be biased towards what you were feeling when watching it live.

This is why I raised an eyebrow after the game when both Jones and Goodwin said they were doing a lot right in the first half when Demonlanders had me believe we were the second coming of Neeld-era Melbourne. I hope the senior coaches and players are able to be calm and rational - there is no such obligation on the fans.

When watching live it is hard not to focus on the possibility of losing, particularly when you fall behind. Live i was worried we would lose but i could see we were working hard hard and my opinion was we were switched on and ready. That was not the case against the hawks in the first quarter or against Freo in the third. The issue was consistently missing targets,and making basic disposal which hurt us big time on the rebound as it always will with our high press, It also meant we didn't maximize our many scoring opportunities, either because we missed targets going inside 50 or missed getable shots at goal.

All that said i was terrified we would lose and found it hard to focus on the positives - for example as Goody pointed out 32 inside 50s to half time (which surprised me) and a high tackle and pressure count

When i watched the full replay i could see Goodies point about being happy with our effort and that we were on the right track. It was about keeping that pressure up. I predicted pre game we would be too hard at the ball for them and they would crack. That is exactly what happened. And it was the pressure in that first half, which continued into the second half that caused them to crack and play so poorly. That pressure made GC completely lose their structure But many want to think that we didn't show up in the first half and just flicked a switch in the second half.

Watts had some crucial touches and some half baked efforts as Watts does most weeks.  That is how it is.

And some supporters are content with being fed grapes. Most have come to terms with Jack Watts the football player and accept he will never be the hard-nosed type but offers a lot of value in other areas. Yet, Kent doesn't put in once (it has been more than once, but it was a specific instance which got everyone's back's up), and the pitch-forks are out. We've deliberately built an ultra-competitive team, and Jack is somehow held apart from the standards everyone else is held to.

Is he that much of a prodigious talent? How do you think Garlett feels when he busts his gut to put pressure on and trap it in only for all that effort to go to waste because a team-mate doesn't bother pitching in? A supposed senior leader? As a supporter who would give everything for my club, one who suffers the pain of every setback, I'm content with the likes of Harmes and Frost making mistakes, because it's evident they put in 100% and hurt when they're beaten. Just like us.
