Jetta, T McDonald, Salem

Hunt, O McDonald, Vince

Brayshaw, Jones, Stretch

Petracca, Weideman, Watts

Kent, T Smith, Garlett

FOLL: Gawn, Viney, Oliver

INT: Tyson, ANB, Harmes, Hannan/Melksham

I think Smith will get the nod over Pedo and The fight will be between Hannan and Melksham for Kent's spot. We don't necessarily need the extra half back with Vince coming back, both he and Jones can play there.

Geelong have quiet a tall back-line - from their normal back 6 - Mackie, Longeran, Hendersen, Tuohy, Ruggles and Stewart (and maybe include Taylor because his forward play isn't great) then 5 of the 7 are over 190, and not all that mobile. If we go small, bring in Vince and Kent only, then as long as were prepared to play smart and not bomb the ball, I think that could be effective. Both Watts and Weid are quiet mobile as well, with neither really happy to just sit in the goal square, so robs them of Longeran and Hendersens strengths as backmen.

we could do with a 3rd tall defender though

the team will look a lot more balanced and flexible when Hibberd/Wagner come in

Then we should give him the news right now

I think if we are ever going to give Smithy a try, assuming he is fully fit HH, it is now. With Hulk out for the next few weeks it's an ideal time to take a look over a few weeks. The stars may have aligned!

With Smith playing hopefully posters can stop bringing up Spencer should a spot for a tall become available.

Spencer will only play if Gawn isn't.

The end./

Was interesting to hear Goodwin say that Tim Smith played a bit in the middle during his last outing for Casey and that he showed a bit.

From my post on this thread on Tuesday; "Having said that, I would like to see what Tim Smith can bring to the side and I think that Etihad might just be the place to show what he has. let him lead all day out of the goal square with Watts and Wied roaming wide and far. maybe even use him the way they have Hogan and stick him in at a couple of center bounces"

Had to put it up, I am not right often, just ask my partner.

Thats right PD.    Spencer was never gonna play.   I like him as  a footballer though, always gives 100% and has great 2nd efforts and hes a nice player to have in reserve if Max gets a week off for hitting someone (I will never talk of a Max Gawn injury).

More like a squad of closer to 30, given this is our current injury/unavailable list:

Melbourne injury list: round three
Colin Garland (knee) – season
Michael Hibberd (Achilles) – 1-2 weeks
Jesse Hogan (suspension) – 2 weeks
Liam Hulett (hip) – 1 week
Mitch King (knee) – 3 weeks
Jordan Lewis (suspension) – 3 weeks
Pat McKenna (hamstring) – 6-8 weeks
Joel Smith (shoulder) – 3-4 months
Aaron vandenBerg (heel) – 6-8 weeks

Given that Tim Smith has been mentioned a couple of times by Goodwin in the press already, you'd think

the subliminal hints are that he'll debut this week. It seems from reports Pedo Bear has been underwhelming

so he may well pinch that spot.

Vince for Lewis / Smith for Hogan / Kent for Hannan for mine

Thanks DD

and you got the changes spot on

2 outta 3 aint bad! Haha.

Seriously surprised that Brayshaw got dropped after 1 bad game, but I'm all for keeping our guys on their toes.

It's understandable you might want to draw attention to some undeserved praise for getting the changes 'spot on' as you yourself achieved exactly that without note. It's also understandable that I would bring attention to that as I agreed wholeheartedly. It's the first time ever the selection committee has shared my precise thoughts. I shall now spend a lot of time this week thinking about the recruitment of Allen Jackovich as a mentor for Jesse Hogan.

As soon as Smith was playing, you knew Brayshaw would be dropped. With Kent ready and Vince a natural replacement for Lewis, one of the half forwards had to give. Hannan provided more than Gus both weeks and ANB was arguably the pick of the bunch both weeks as well. That left the underperforming Gus.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
