Seriously why can't they offer packages AND allow people to pick & chose their own channels?

Good Point......... Out of interest what would you be prepared to pay for the AFL channel on a monthly/annual basis

No more than $20 a month.  That's for full HD no ad breaks siren to siren.

Thanks.... the Watch AFL service sold to overseas watchers (which is close to your desired requirements)  is $33 a month or $198 per year.

If I understand correctly the minimum monthly spend for Foxtel package including footy is around $80 per month

Inside Aus you have to add the cost of a VPN to that too.

Does the Watch AFL service run yearly?

Does it have on demand games?

I have foxtel ATM but soon to be moving and have decided that we will not be getting it again, I would keep it if not for all the advertising, we are literally paying for commercials. Bring back the Optus pay TV days!

Was using the AFL Watch as an example of current pricing of the AFL product. The seller according to my invoice is Fox Sports. Hard to see that any stand alone offer would be at a lesser price as I assume AFL watch is a not much if anything of a profit centre.

The AFL Watch has pretty well everything that Fox Footy has as far as I can see.  It runs yearly but effectively no charge for the off season in the sense that it is $33 for a month and $198 for 12 month.

It actually promotes its ability to be projected from your tablet to the screen unlike the local Telstra AFL app.

As the season wears on they have in the past offered discounted fee packages to reflect the remaining season.

If anyone is still trying to watch it on an IPad.

Settings>General>Accesibilty

Turn zoom on

Turn up the magnification.

Then when you tap with three fingers to Zoom It will zoom in and make the game fill 75-80% of the screen and cut out most of the useless champion data stats.

Interesting, how is the picture quality? Thanks.

The AFL is heading down the path of Major League Baseball. MLB produces its own content and packages shows to the various stations and audiences. Stations use their own commentary teams. So Ch 10 could pay for the final series or all Friday night games etc Channel Eddie could broadcast all the Coll games.. Additionaly punters could pay say $10 a week to stream the game to the device of your choice.

The AFL media dept has been growing like topsy and Demetriou confirmed as much to me when I asked him. When you do the maths it will work out a lot better than the current broadcast deal and the digital rights deal as well as the AFL maintaining control over the content production.

That's pretty much where its heading...

Just to say re. Watch AFL, it can be done through the club for around that price ($215) as part of the International Membership package.

Also just to say, was around half that going back a couple of years, it's only in the last 2 years that the price has reached this level. Good service though, watch whatever you want, wherever you want, however you want, and includes some of the footy shows, highlights etc. as well. They also have an App, which works well.

Foxtel would not pay so much for the rights if people all bought an Afl pass. Its a bummer having to pay for the foxtel basic package to watch AFL. Without the AFL rights poxtel would go broke as the rest of their programs are crap. Just ring up poxtel and tell them you are cancelling and they will do back flips to keep your business as Netflix and googleplay are killing them. AFL is the only thing stopping Murdoch going broke.

We should all boycott for a year and get rid of them once and for all. I could manage watching free to air and  listen to more games on radio but we get so little free to air coverage as Dees supporters. What to do? Foxtel suck and will continue too unless there is some competition. Bloody Rupert ....greedy sod.

I watched Dees games via the free AFL Live pass as a Telstra customer last year. Cast to my TV via Chromecast, but quality was a bit shizen. Was going to do the same this year, until an offer for Foxtel Play popped up via my Herald Sun Digital subscription. Was about to can the Herald Sun sub as it had crept up to a dollar a day (used to cost about half that when I signed up pretty much for Supercoach Gold). Now pay $40 a month for my Herald Sun sub plus Foxtel Play on 3 devices including the Telstra TV, which we already had but weren't really using. Includes sports, lifestyle and music channels, which is about all we would use Foxtel for as we download everything else. So I'm now paying $12 bucks a month extra, I get to watch all the footy, and the missus gets to watch all her cooking/home/lifestyle shows. Happy with that. Not sure if the deal is still running.

How can it be done through the club?  I was looking into it before the season began and all membership deals for internationals offered AFL live, not watch AFL.

I pay for Watch AFL (am international), and it is worth it.  I have never had access issues, can always watch any game, any replay or any footy show.

I don't even have TV: l go to the "G" to watch the games there, I go to the pub when the Dees play elsewhere! Simple really!

Late to this technology but it seems that Foxtel Go is the way and then split the subscription costs with a few mates.

Not everyone needs it on both phones and laptops. One approved connection per household for example and then chromecast or whatever to the TV and it is around $15 per moth assuming a 4 way split. Completely legal and to keep everyone honest you pre pay the Foxtel for say a year and then if people don't kick in for the next year by say month 10 the primary account holder cancels it.

Am I missing something or simply catching up with the way it is done anyway ?

Seems that the same works for Netflix , Stan etc if not better because if you are overseas these services do not seem to worry about geo blocking

I have a good VPN. I really should join as an international subsciber.

FTA is truly pathetic now. (We should be on FTA today as part of our deal) but no there is no consideration to Members.

This is jusf a ca$h grab, that so far we can't even win

i love the Australian Outback, but not to watch the Melbourne Football Club!!

Hi

Does Foxtel Go have all the replays and when are they available.

Just went looking for yesterday's game ( now 16 hours on ) and no sign of the replay but I can see the earlier two games that were on FTA available as watch anytime.

Thanks

More of a TKO unfortunately ADC in that all they are doing is offering refunds to some customers and changing their advertisment. Not doing anything to revert to the old screen size.

Live sport continues to be one of the major battlegrounds in the online/cable world and unfortunately the war will go on for quite a while I think.

Interesting that the world of kodi add ons seems to be attracting the attention of the big anti piracy players as it starts to eat into their market.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
