Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS

I think getting Lewis would have been an absolute coup.  (And might still be if the Mitchell deal doesn't work through).

Lewis is a leader. His ability to lift under adversity (like Hodge) has carried the Squawks over the line, including finals and Grand Finals.

His inclusion would have been another key to getting up the ladder into the finals and in the big one.  We move on ...

(I had to raise the separate thread.)

Pretty reasonable that it has its own thread; there are plenty of other single player threads bashing around.

For what it's worth, I hope having his own thread may be an omen to this being an ongoing discussion. He agreed to terms with us... hopefully the Hawks can be persuaded to deal.

Yeah, But unlike almost every fish that has swam up to the boat! We couldn't land him!

Typical!

Theres still a whole week of trades left.  Who knows what surprises are in store, we have already had two very good players (Lewis and Hibberd) try and get to us.

And I wouldnt rule Lewis coming to the MFC out just yet.

I reckon this is still very much in play,

As much as the eternal pessimist in me during trade week wants to disagree, I'd like to believe it's not entirely dead either.  I still think, with a week to go, there is still a little more to play out here.

I think if he came to the club, went as far as negotiating a deal and agreeing to it and informing the Hawks he clearly liked the idea, it seems to me that it's more about the Hawks not wanting to trade him than him not wanting to come.

it's called the silly season for a reason haha

Absolutely.  There are a few reporting that after meeting Clarkson again today he felt better about staying, but I'm not sold on it yet.

When a thread touting Boomer was started I stated my opposition. Now I realise Lewis is somewhat younger and I acknowledge his credentials. HOWEVER, we are developing shite loads of young talent - lets continue down that path. .

Apparently we warmed to the idea as we felt his leadership within our midfield and at the club as a whole would be invaluable for a few years.  He can be a third or fourth mid in our side and do some regular damage in games, not to mention the ability to lift when the pressure is on, something we are still learning to do.

I do agree that I always feel a bit uneasy when looking at older players, but someone of Lewis' quality is hard to ignore.

I think the silence from the Lewis camp is interesting.

Possibly still not committed to a course of action otherwise you would expect a statement of some kind.

For a deal to be agreed Lewis was obviously well down the road of accepting his career at the Hawks was over. From the outside it would appear there has to be some bad blood now between Lewis & the Hawks FD. How does that then just flip 180 again in the space of a couple of hours? I think this will play out over the next couple of days, if Lewis is genuinely upset he may force Hawthorn's hand & request a trade.

It's a fair point, although you could argue that the story broke very late in the day and they haven't had time.  All we've had is a quick statement from the Hawks that he is a 'required' player.

Anyone with inside knowledge know if this deal is now dead, or is there still a heart beat @Grand New Flag

It won't happen now.

Have heard they had the same little chat with him as they had with Mitchell but after said chat he had a couple to many drinks said no but then changed his mind the next morning and asked his manager to enquire about Melbourne. And then when Mitch was keen to go they didn't need to move Lewis on anymore so changed their mind and backflipped.

They f@$k the duck it's fair to say!

Not so professional Hawks..

Yep many times for some great fish on occasions and occasionally..... a VETARSE!

Ok I'll play ball!

Lewis informs Hawks he wants to go to Dees! Now as we know EVERY player who declares a club of chioce nearly always gets there!

What do we need to do, to do the deal????

Lewis is past his best. Seemed treacle slow at times this season. Even in today's AFL not all players can maintain their form into their 30s. Would not mind him as a coach.

Given Hawks extended Mitchell mid season and then Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson late in the season it seems likely that Clarkson was so shaken by the loss to the Bullies that he has accelerated their list rebuild. Exiting their reigning best and fairest and best midfielder Sam Mitchell, is obviously a salary cap dump. So was their initial dialogue with Lewis. Some of the space may have been needed to more easily fit O'Meara, T Mitchell and Vickery but it could also be used to frontload 2018 payments to to 2017. This, with the likely retirements of Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson, means they would have plenty of cap space to go shopping for free agents or destination club types next off season too. Fyfe? Gold Coast or Giants mids?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
