MFC have issued a statement saying 'we understand that Jordan is a contracted player but we remain interested'!

Translation:  He is on his way!!

Edit 1:  Source SEN who apparently have mfc's complete statement.

Edit 2:  Here is the statement:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-14/we-remain-interested-dees-still-sniffing-around-lewis

The pertinent part:  "We received an approach from Jordan Lewis’s management earlier this week regarding the possibility of him joining Melbourne. This was after discussions Jordan had with Hawthorn," the statement read..."We understand that Jordan is contracted to Hawthorn, but we remain interested in looking at this option."

Makes it pretty clear we did not do the chasing despite the picture Hawthorn are trying to paint!

Well done mfc to not let the Hawks paint us as the bad guys to save their own skin!!

Yep. Well played again, MFC. Where's Osilik?

After we land Lewis, I'd be getting in Jaeger's ear.  Ask him if he wants to play in a hawthorn midfield less Mitchell and Lewis, for a club in disarray, or come and play with Lewis in a midfield ready to challenge.

Next year's first round with a 2nd rounder this year or next, or maybe an ANB type, wouldn't be far off making it happen. How good would it be to screw the Hawks like that...

People may say Lewis is 30, he's at the end of his career etc etc, which is true, but there's know denying now that externally, perceptions of our club have changed. Thank you PJ and co. I reckon if we continue our upward trajectory next year, we're a real chance to land a big fish at the end of 2017.

Dees to grab pick 21 off the Lions but offering pick 30 and either Dunn, Dawes, JKH or even  Spencer (can grab 1-2 rucks in the draft).

Lewis for pick 21 is fair ... a steal but the Hawks need to deal now.

Hibberd for MFC 2nd round pick in 2017 draft.

Gets us Lewis, Hibberd and keeps 2017 1st rounder.

It will be a 3rd round pick

Youre dreaming mate.

Hawks moving mitchell on was for salary cap space. For them to let Lewis go they'll want a good deal. Unfortunately if the lewis deal was done first we could have gotten a bargain, but i fear that the hawks have the cards now - their board doesnt want to loose both players so we'd have to do a good deal to make it happen now

If they told Lewis that they might get rid of him and he only had a year left - then that is not a player I would give - nor they expect - Pick 21 for.

Happy to get him - it would be great but the club is not going to give up anything of value.

Have no idea  what or how Hawthorn were attempting to resolve their issues, but their un Hawthorn like  handling of incoming player salaries has got the treatment from the screwees.

Bloody great , been sickened for years by the family club crap that they have pedalled.

If Jordan Lewis wants to come to us , that's terrific as her has a lot of experience to offer. But it did seem apparent to me in the finals that he was slowing up, his age is against him and I don't think he equates to a second rounder. Also, after being as unthinking as this to its champions, I don't think it would be particularly smart  to try and engage in sharp practice and further player aggravation, by not helping Lewis get to his destination. I mean they made the Mitchell thing work painlessly for him, doesn't Lewis deserve the same respect?

4 th Rounder would at least claw back a bit of respect for them I would suggest notwithstanding what cards they hold.

call me late for dinner but I'm not fussed ifhe comes not. Good either way. What I DO take out of this is a multiple. Premiership player actually wanted to come and made active efforts to do so....and the steak knives is NO ONE smirked at the idea. That's a win. Yes shouldn't need to even make comment but I do :)

I'm not convinced the hawks won't move him. Sam Mitchell was traded for a half eaten bag of burger rings. I don't buy the "coaching succession plan" angle. The hawks have cap constraints and Lewis wants to cash in during the last 2-3 years he has left. Seems like a deal with us helps the player cash in, and the hawks free up cap room.

3rd rounder and a switch of 5th rounder gets it done.

He was best on ground in their game against the Cats....didn't have a good one the following week.

The jungle drums are beating.

Jordan Lewis in a Dees jumper will be bloody hard to get my head around. It would be akin to Jack Watts shaving his head, getting a sleeve tatt and wearing a Collingwood jumper. Just... weird. I'm all for it though if he comes cheap.

Some dude actually reported this on here several days before the media caught wind of it. It was in the Trade Whispers thread and was considered so ludicrous that it barely got a reply. Can't be bothered sifting through all the pages to find it, but that poster has serious credits in the bank now.

I still can't get my head around the fact that he chose us. Not the other way around. Absolutely bewildering.

We can disagree where his playing days are at as its not clear. 30+, has arguably been short-changed financially (played if you like), now sees colossal dollars being thrown about and says 'hang on'. Has given them great service and is deserving of a little better.

Was just told by a source who has multiple connections inside Hawthorn said to me the only party against this move is the Hawks board who are concerned about the supporter/media backlash of losing two legends for virtually nothing in one trade period.

it's 99.9% going to happen, he's already requested a trade.

Whatever happens it's pretty obvious the Hawks are in massive PR damage control. They've probably conceded he's gone but after losing Mitchell they'll be conscious of the supporter backlash hence the press conference today. Why would you sign Mitchell up for next year and then approach him about leaving now if it was only due to his coaching aspirations? Everything theyve come out with is BS right down to saying WE approached Lewis .

it sounds like the footy department and the board aren't on the same page with this, Clarko is seemingly happy for both to go, but the Board rightfully are concerned with how it looks

No not disagreeing, he's certainly not on an upwards spiral but he did keep them in the Cats game.

I think the days of players taking a pay cut to keep the group together are all but over. Hawthorn and the Cats managed to con their players but it will be no more. A younger group will grab a flag then go for the cash from now on, it may already be starting to happen at the dogs...

Players will get smarter, it's the way the game is heading.

Do I like it? No, I don't like what has happened to the game and what the AFL chiefs have done to it.
