Dees to grab pick 21 off the Lions but offering pick 30 and either Dunn, Dawes, JKH or even  Spencer (can grab 1-2 rucks in the draft).

Lewis for pick 21 is fair ... a steal but the Hawks need to deal now.

Hibberd for MFC 2nd round pick in 2017 draft.

Gets us Lewis, Hibberd and keeps 2017 1st rounder.

Massive overs.

Refer Mitchell deal.

HE'S NEARLY 31 FFS.

The idea of a quality pick for 2 years of a guys career is bananas.

Sam Mitchell - captain, 5 time B+F, All Australian, Brownlow winner - pick 81. Come on.

Youre dreaming mate.

Hawks moving mitchell on was for salary cap space. For them to let Lewis go they'll want a good deal. Unfortunately if the lewis deal was done first we could have gotten a bargain, but i fear that the hawks have the cards now - their board doesnt want to loose both players so we'd have to do a good deal to make it happen now

Ummm. I'm speechless at that trade scenario. Just Wow. Surely trolling.

If they told Lewis that they might get rid of him and he only had a year left - then that is not a player I would give - nor they expect - Pick 21 for.

Happy to get him - it would be great but the club is not going to give up anything of value.

One thing I am happy about with this potential trade is that once again we didn't leak. There were clearly talks yet not one word from the club until the leak came from the Hawks.

Makes me wonder what else we are up to that we have no idea about!

Indeed

There are a few here who keep whining that they have heard nothing from the club Don't think we did last year before our round 1 coups

There is a agreed trade should Jordan walk to us.  We are not paying overs.

Yep. Ryan Ferguson coming out of retirement just to do the trade he could have (?) 15 years ago?

This is rubbish. The Hawks have told Lewis he won't be contracted past next season. That tells me the Hawks value him a one season player. Why would we give up a pick of any value for a player wth one year left? We hold all the cards here including the player wanting to come here. Hawthorn have just allowed their b&f winner to move to the Eagles for free almost, this situation is hardly any different. How could the Hawks treat Mitchell differently to Lewis? This is a PR nightmare for them if they don't agree to let Lewis leave & would show blatant disrespect to a 4 time premiership player.

And they can't very well enforce a contract that they initially were trying to back out of.

The hawks hold no cards.  If Lewis wants to go he goes.  Any pick traded for him will be 4th round plus

I would be happy to pay a third rounder, but im a drunk internet idiot with no professional reputation to uphold.

I like your idea better.

Hawthorn were 18th for contested possessions

Lewis was their  No. 1 contested ball winner

Mitchell was their No. 2 contested ball winner

Now I know that the Hawks don't rely on contested possessions as much as other teams and they are getting the Sydney Mitchell but it isn't too difficult to envisage a scenario where they Freo like fall off the twig next year and then go into next years draft without a first round pick as they just gave that to the Saints

That would be a shame

The jungle drums are beating.

Jordan Lewis in a Dees jumper will be bloody hard to get my head around. It would be akin to Jack Watts shaving his head, getting a sleeve tatt and wearing a Collingwood jumper. Just... weird. I'm all for it though if he comes cheap.

Some dude actually reported this on here several days before the media caught wind of it. It was in the Trade Whispers thread and was considered so ludicrous that it barely got a reply. Can't be bothered sifting through all the pages to find it, but that poster has serious credits in the bank now.

After we land Lewis, I'd be getting in Jaeger's ear.  Ask him if he wants to play in a hawthorn midfield less Mitchell and Lewis, for a club in disarray, or come and play with Lewis in a midfield ready to challenge.

Next year's first round with a 2nd rounder this year or next, or maybe an ANB type, wouldn't be far off making it happen. How good would it be to screw the Hawks like that...

Lewis is 30. 4 time premiership player.

Runner up in Hawks b&f.

Most contested possessions for Hawks 2015 & 2016.

Jordan Lewis has 4 years good footy left.

Sam Mitchell deal was a sweetheart deal for a 34yo with 12 mths left.

Dees to get the Hawks interested again. They will want to keep Lewis.

Never thought I'd ever say this, but gee Hawthorn have handled this badly.

I'll say it again. This all happened after the little man's minder got the Brisbane job. It's going to be fun watching Clarko implode over the next few years. And I don't mind being smug about it.

Not a word from Melbourne either, interestingly. The only camp commenting is Hawthorn.

If I was working at the MFC FD, I'd be staying tight-lipped until the deal is done, so as nothing can blow back in our face if a deal doesn't go down.

Hawks without S.Mitchell and probably Lewis.  No Roughead back.  Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson another year older.  They miss the eight for me.

Agreed. And O'Meara struggles to get on the park.

You will find the rumour was floating for a couple of days but some considered it too ludicrous to spread, shows the "whole game" has changed

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
