Dom Tyson re-signs

Great news.

Still underrated and strangely maligned by some on Demonland. He is an essential player as we push into the top 8 bracket. 

Good to see him at the Brownlow. He is the classy type that compliments Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Jones & Petracca.

If anyone has any doubts about Tyson's class and ability to step up in big games, they need to watch the last qtr of the Hawthorn win. Two clutch goals, one a fantastic snap and the other a 45 mtr set shot on an angle to ice the game.

He was also near BOG in the first Hawks game.

Sensible signing and very happy that we have avoided another McDonald saga.

The constant questioning over the signing of the full forward (cannot quite remember his name but there is a 100 plus page post about it) is distracting to say the least.

Hope Dom and others can realise the dream that we all have of the team playing and winning that last day in September (or these days the first in October)

Really? Tyson has some of the quickest hands at the club, that's where he does his best work IMO.

I think we should be going after top mids in that 23-27 age bracket for the next 5-6 years, but we should also continue to build through the draft. If we can nail picks in the second and third rounds of the draft like Sydney have (Hannebery pick 30, Kennedy traded for late picks and Jack taken in the Rookie Draft), that's how we'll have sustained success.

But the most important thing for us to do is to continue to re-sign all our young talent. And this signature from Dom is another show of faith in the direction of the club. Such signatures in the coming few years will eventually snowball into the MFC becoming a desirable destination for prospective players. 

And the best of the lot of them, Parker, who was about pick 40.

Agreed, and his work at stoppages is superb as well. Like many of our other players, his deficiencies are often found in his kicking.

Great news.

I think perspective's on Tyson's ability have been damped a bit by MFCSS.

He had two terrific surges of form during 2014 (rnd 7-11 and rnd 18-23) when he was involved in everything, winning clearances, taking marks, kicking goals, driving the ball inside 50.

But in amongst that were some patches of poor form, and of course his 2015 wasn't stellar. That feeling of 'promise not delivered' gets into the bones of Demon supporters.

Interestingly, despite not having so many really astonishing individual games, his consistency has greatly improved to the point where his bad games are one-offs.

Valuable player, glad to have him signed on, and hopefully he's ours for another ten years after that.

Tyson and Viney are already ahead of the previous group so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Good to see Tyson extend. Important for centre square depth. Good contested ball winner who needs to distribute better, particularly short passing.

Harrowing memories, but I'd argue our current group has more runs on the board than that group ever did.

Great news for another young player with a lot left to give.

I don't think he is underrated at all, I don't know why posters believe that he is. 

His best is really really good. But like many young players, he doesn't perform at that level consistently yet.

Equally, when he is at his worst, he costs the team. Especially with his errant kicking when it's off.

And this year, we saw a lot of best and worst games. Now the challenge is to bridge that gap and get to a stage where if he is not at his 'best', he is at least still contributing.That's what the good players do. And it's how successful teams remain successful. Consistency in performance.

So again, neither over nor underrated. 

So shut up.

I think his step back in 2015 was due to injury and also a need to work on his defensive game. Easy to forget how little footy he'd played before 2014.

Certainly stepped it up again in the back half of 2016. 

He looked a lot stronger this year but still hasn't done a full preseason. I'm hoping he can have a big preseason this year and come back with more stamina and a bit more speed. That will help his kicking, versatility and consistency.

These talented midfielders who play well early in their career can seem to stagnate as expectations catch up to output. Viney showed what can happen with a big preseason. If his body has as much improvement in it as I think it might and he puts in the work he could make a big leap.
