James Stewart

Has officially asked for a trade and Carlton lead the race but is open to any Melbourne based club.

Surprise surprise Carlton Essendon and Collingwood are the clubs interested yet we are not which is disappointing.

198cm key forward who has kicked some big bags in the NEAFL. Would be the perfect foil for Hogan and add an extra big body as Weidemen continues to develop.

Surely we are having a serious look at him.

I had an interesting discussion with a Carlton supporter on Saturday. He was fairly assured that the Blues would be getting both Marchbank and Stewart and possibly even one more GWS player who isn't getting a regular game. I thought that getting one player who can't make the grade at another might sometimes be helpful but trying to build your side up around what are effectively 'rejects' was going over the top. That's where some clubs appear to be heading.

Don't think that necessarily applies to GWS. They still have players not getting a game, who clearly would at other clubs.

2 years ago Carlton way overpaid for Jaksch who was a speculative player who probably won't make it and Whiley who was a reject depth player.

But last year they got a good deal for Plowman who's good enough to make it, Phillips who's a handy 2nd ruck then 2 guys in Sumner and Lamb who were young enough to fill out their depth spots given how much Carlton needed to clean out. So 1 good player, 1 ruckmen who are their own category and 2 rejects in the right age bracket.

Marchbank was tracking well for a young tall. He's certainly not a reject. Stewart is more like that, but given Carlton's lack of tall forwards he's worth a look.

Looking at his NEAFL form it's mostly 2 or 3 goals in the first half of the year then in the back half he kicks a few bags of 5 and then an 8 goal haul. I think you'd have to look up what opposition they were against and how much GWS won by but that's some serious goal kicking.

I'd certainly rather have Stewart than Dawes or Pedersen but I'm really not sure what he'd be worth as a trade and what contract he'd want. If he has to be paid big money and it costs a early 3rd or late 2nd round pick (that we don't have) I'm not sure it's a good deal.

We beat them this year and they will be one of the teams we have to beat to win a flag.

Not sure we need to top up on their rejects, we've got a couple and one gun. Maybe we should look at targeting another gun in the next few seasons.

I wouldn't mind Stewart, especially if Hogan were to leave. But if the rumors about Hogan signing an extension are true then I feel he'd be low on our radar.

Word is he's capable of playing 2nd ruck, however 19 hit outs in 17 AFL games in 2015 when he was playing the 2nd ruck/forward role doesn't fill me with confidence.

I think we're better off drafting Darcy Cameron and picking up Luke Lowden as a DFA personally.

I thought he was good as Captain Ahab .

Looks good in a pork pie hat too.

The danger is though that they are probably not getting the stars and gamebreakers that the early picks may otherwise get you.  I'm not convinced that there are genuine A Graders not getting a game for GWS.

Carlton/Silvagni are going all-in on the GWS offcuts.

Unless James & his father are the types to forgive and forget I can't see him ending up at the filth.

I agree, I don't want the players that can't make it at GWS, I want the ones that can.

We have a few that were from GWS and couldn't get a game and that's fine, but no more, I'm sure we have enough depth players and now we need best 22.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
