My assessment was based on what I saw in the B match against Richmond, and the odd mention in training reports.  Based on these (albeit limited) showings, he seems way off the pace to me. 

The 2020 draft was compromised by the limited exposure of many of the Vic based kids, and for this reason it's likely that many decent prospects were overlooked by us, and other clubs.  I'd much rather give these kids an opportunity to show their wares early, and pick one up mid-year, based on performance (ie. best available principle).  Koby's turn will come then (or most likely later) IF he's good enough!

Yeah and how long did it take them? Bedford still can't crack into the senior side. Give the bloke a chance to develop, bloody hell. Still a better choice than Daw. Farmer's the future. Let him grow.

Without wanting to offend some demonlanders, it is almost clear as day that he is only on the permission to train list due to his surname. 

There are hundreds of players out there who would possess the same traits as he does.

You posted this two weeks ago, Tim Lamb on the weekend said none of the 3 players who are training with us have been offered a spot as of yet and a decision is still yet to be made.

After watching Farmer on the weekend I would completely shocked if he made the list. Looked a long way off it.

Was informed he would be listed by the end of SSP. I expected an annoucement by now - I just wonder if having 2 big men down and Daw come in to train has changed things. I dont think they would reneg.

Funny to see so much negativity around Farmer.  I don't think he was that bad in his first ever game at that level.  He showed some good pace and agility, he has a longer kick than I expected and he was certainly willing to chase and tackle.  The big issue I had was his kicking.  I'm not sure whether it's an issue with his skills or decision-making, but his kicks went to bad places.  Still, that is something that can be worked on.  More importantly for me, there were a couple of glimpses where he was almost magic.  Only a couple, but again, give it time to develop. 

Edit:  Also, we have another open list spot due to the latest LTI.

Absolutely. And I’d assume that’s what will happen if he’s not listed by us.

I hate to say it but he doesn't really have any attributes that he can hang his hat on.

He's not quick or overly skillful and he also doesn't seem to have the IQ to fill that gap. I think he shows enough willingness to run and pressure but that's not really enough, particularly at his size.

Yeah, I'd love to re-listen to this. I swear he said only one SSP choice would be made and a choice would be saved for the mid-season draft. 

Am I missing something here? Doesn't that mean two of the three train-on players will miss out?

I don’t know how long term injuries affect these spots on the list, but will that change with Nietschke’s (or however it’s spelt) and Hore’s injuries?

im yet to hear a reasonable explanation for how this would be beneficial instead of training full time with us?

he was very clear that we would carry a spot over and that hore hadn't been moved to the LTI inactives list but given the timing of the injury (x2 now) there is such a slim chance of the player(s) who are both considered outside best 22 making it back before finals and then less chance of actually being picked. the club should be filling at least two spots now and carrying two over.

with news the eagles are passing on all 3 of their train-ons due mostly to not having a spot available i would be having a conversation with cedric cox who i believe has done some decent work at HB/wing as well as HF

This would be in the instance that he hasn't made the cut this year (or even this round of list lodgements) to make it onto an AFL list but this allows him to develop in front of our eyes under our tutelage. I'm not familiar with the F/S rule and the draft but if he showed enough this year could he nominate for the ND as a father/son recruit allowing us to bypass competing for picks?

These are theories I'm putting forward taking into account that our available places are finite (although there could be a space opened by Neita's 3rd ACL). If our list managers feel that he hasn't done enough to warrant a place in the squad YET I would like to think they would still look for ways to keep him in our system.

Why there is no reason why all 3 can't be all selected doubtful if they will leave 2 spots for the mid season draft. Daw is expected to be picked up, someone said Farmer will be rookie listed (he wasn't as bad as people make out he done a few nice things wasn't a stand out but wasn't shocking either). Gawn said Smith should be picked up that's good enough for me.

There must be salary cap or other financial implications. We’ve got 2 spots on the rookie list that shouldn’t impact the salary cap, but using a 3rd spot to replace an injured player might. And how much money do we want to spend on someone if they won’t play and have limited potential?

I heard Richo say on the weekend that the defensive part of Farmer's game is strong but he still needs to work on a few things in the offensive part of his game.  I found this interesting as often it is the other way round for small forwards.  I wouldn't write him off yet - given the long term injury list, I'd be happy to rookie him and allow him to battle with our other small forwards to win a spot on the list next year.

I watched the replay of all 3 thirds again and Kobe's work ethic was pretty good
His disposal was a bit average on a couple of occasions but he was certainly not lacking in willingness to get physical
There was one passage of play where he tapped the ball ahead of himself through traffic and had he not run into a stationary Bailey Laurie he was a good chance of creating a goal from nothing - have to say it did remind me of the great Wizard

Our list managers are far better placed to determine if he deserves a list spot but in terms of a first hit out in a level which is above anything he has been in before I think his effort was pretty good

Some here may recall his Dad's debut game at the 'G' as being distinctly inauspicious as memory serves us. Do recall the rather 'comical' goal square incident, involving a very junior and anxious Wiz hand balling into the back of an unaware Garry Lyon in the goal square. After the officiating umpire had stopped play. He was allowed to take his kick so averted the ignominy of opponent supporters' mirth.

Tim Lamb's assessment of Kobe's abilities during his interview on the live telecast was pretty spot on, his defensive game was basically sound but he has much work to do on his offensive game. His performance in the seconds practice game reflected that, as noted by some of DL's more prescient observers.

This may be wishful thinking through RCG's, but there is something reminiscent in Kobe's on field actions that resemble the early tentative steps of his father. Whether that Farmer 'mystique' gets further opportunity and be allowed to establish and grow is at this stage in the laps of the footy gods.

That was a magnificent magic moment... , consider myself fortunate to be there and witness it. Tigers were literally stopped in their tracks, their aspirations of making the finals that year, evaporated at that instant. Back to the wilderness, they seemed perpetually obliged to inhabit back then. Of course Garry was the go to step-ladder guy for others including Sean Smith up in Brisvegas!
