I hope Kobe Farmer trains well and is doing extra skills and running during his Christmas holidays.

If he does well enough he will earn a spot on our list.

I definitely would like the son of "the wizard" Jeff Farmer running around playing for the Demons again. Jeff was an excitement machine and I always felt we missed our opportunity to win a Premiership when he left the Demons. Losing Jeff was a far bigger loss than we expected at the time.

His son needs to be talented enough though.

How good would it be to see the Wiz's kid running around in the Red & Blue taking a few spekkies and kicking goals from all angles, come on Kobe here is your chance to bring a Farmer back to the Dee's. My middle daughter cried when the Wizz departed, come to think of it the whole family may have.

Realistically we have to assume he is a fair way off AFL standard, even with development,  as evidenced by 2 clubs passing on him as a father/son, or even rookie.

We have given him a chance to show he has the ability and work ethic, but as good  as having a son of the Wiz on our list would be for the fans, it is a waste of a spot, if he simply isn’t good enough and but for his name would be nowhere near an AFL club list. That would cost us a potential player who we could have taken instead. There are plenty of father/sons out there who are simply not good enough, or have other passions, so clearly the pedigree alone can’t determine spots on our list.

Here’s hoping though for Kobe!

When Farmer left Melbourne it was the only time I have seriously considered abandoning the Demons. Such a gut punch.

Every supporter did. Could have won a premiership with that guy.

Yep, no other player leaving cut deeper for me. I was 15 at the time and he was one of those players that almost always created a moment every game that made it worth the price of the ticket.

Really happy the club has reached out to him, perhaps he’ll be a supplementary rookie. I’m sure he’s a long way off given he hasn’t been drafted but it’s totally worth the effort to have the possibility of Wiz Jnr kicking goals on the MCG for the mighty Dees!

That has been mentioned quite a few times by various posters in this thread, journo must have been reading demonland.

I wouldn't dispute that, I was merely pointing out that the article contained info that was in this thread and quipped that the journo had read demonland. I was also under the impression that clubs could have a greater number of players training with them than the article suggested. In my view just another bit of garbage journalism.

But that is the point, he could be worse.

Have you seen him play?

Why are you saying he is a LOCK for us.

If he is good, fair enough, but you don't draft players who aren't AFL standard, just because their fathers were good players. If that was the case, we would have 3 of Lyon's sons on the list for starters.

Caution is the last thing to think about, regarding '...is he any good? ...'  If he has half of the ability of his old man, bearing in mind that he has several years up his sleeve to transition his game attributes, he is worth it. He is generating much discussion and interest to some observers to lay a foundation to his potential. Genetics is also on his side, profoundly. We need a young bloke with 'history' to want to play for our Club; his dad did and his dad could teach him more most ably, I would say. Age right, body right, a year or two under close development. Go for it! His dad knows that he will be 'good enough' one day relatively soon. A proud young Demon on the way through the door - worth every try we can offer.

Of course, if he had half the ability of the Wiz he would be a certainty, but that is exactly the point, does he have the potential to play AFL.  Us, Freo and every other club passed on him in the draft. That is a starting point, as not one club thought he was worth even a rookie spot. Yes he might develop and become an AFL player and that would be great. My point is that if he is no good, I don't care if his name is Barassi, you don't waste list spots where you can help it. Plenty of sons of former AFL players don't make it in the AFL. You don't get on a list because of your name, it might help, but you need the ability and attitude.

He’s very small and slight. Listed at 169cm and 65kgs. Bit shorter than Kozzie.

Can we draft a father son down the track. EG. If Kobe develops with Casey? Do you only get the FS in the first draft?

Plenty of players who’ve made it have been overlooked in the draft. I’m backing the kid in

This club has had so many duds on its list I will be spewing if we don't at least give Kobe a shot.   He cant be worse than 7 or 8 players we currently have.  And we need another small forward

Why because he's the Wiz's kid

Have you seen him play

I have and there's a reason he wasn't drafted

Long shot but sometimes fairytales become reality

I'm in the boat and have voiced this quite strongly that I would only want him on the list if he's got the talent to contribute strongly in the future and not based on name.

The fact some on here want him on the list purely on name shows exactly where the mentality we are as supporters and that's accepting mediocrity far too easily.

In your time of watching him @Pennant St Dee what are the things he needs to work on from your point of view?

i feel like theres no reason not to fill out your list, if hes 44th man then who cares its one season, roll the dice and if after 12 months it hasn't worked out its no loss but nothing ventured nothing gained

He needs to do more when he gets the football, IMO he just lacks X factor.

He works hard defensively inside forward 50 and applies pressure with tackles (which need to stick more).

IMO he's just like 50 other players, nothing really stands out, which is needed at Kobe's size.

So he needs to either build strength/power and become a pressure forward who causes chaos with turnovers or start to really hurt opponents on the scoreboard

I basically think his skills are average and need to be pushing elite with his size

Sound logic, Roost it, good onyer. I'm backing him in, too. Just because he's not built like a gorilla under growth hormones, he'd be nippy, agile and will have the Dad's impression of footy smarts in abundance. Hell, he could do a late-adolescent spurt of 20 cms, train very hard, very often to put on 15 kilos of muscle, and hone his skillset under close advice from the source and the MFC talent that is there in the coming season. A little time, a little compliance and he'd more likely than not be ready to erupt! He's keen - just look at his eyes and concentration in several of the photos, so far.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie
