Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

just what is that as a job ?  And I thought Macca was the ultimate player-whisperer ?

From what the article says, it is almost a director of coaching role without the title. He will be in charge of the development of coaches, and driving the performance of the players

To show how highly rated he is at Essendon, I have copied some bomber supporters comments.

"This is the clubs biggest loss of 2016"

"On a serious note the man has been a rock for a lot of the players young and old.
Will be a massive loss and he'd be welcome back at any time I reckon".

"I hope the club would welcome him back anytime, have really enjoyed his coachimg and in particular the way he speaks with the players.

"Really impressive young coach, someone who got the boys to play for him. Polite, well mannered and best of all, has ability in the box".

"Best of luck to Ego, you lifted us off the canvass in the VFL (post Skippy), this loss will hurt more than people will realise"

I've got to admit I've got no idea how these people fill their days at work anyway. All I know is that it matters that our players are properly developed and we've added a highly rated younger resource; since Macca is still on board I'll just assume the new structure is an improvement on what we had and be happy.

I assume the coaches all have match day roles - both AFL and VFL for some -to execute and prepare for. Then they have to do similar things for training and meetings. Lots of watching previous games, upcoming games and training sessions. Then there's the informal moments that must be important especially for young players.

I doubt the job titles mean that much, I'm sure they are all doing similar things depending on their strengths. It makes sense to give Macca a title that reflects the change to mentoring Goodwin now Roos is gone. If he wasn't to be a line coach working with a group of players then development is really the most vital part of coaching a young list so that's where Egan goes.

Goodwin and Macca were very hands on at training in the last 2 years along with Matthews and Rawlings. It will be interesting to see if they take a step back with the change of roles. I'd imagine Macca stays pretty hands on, he seems to love being around the players.

I don't think we should be bringing back any former Melbourne players at this point in time, we need to completely divorce the club from the old hands after spending 3 years ridding ourselves of that culture.

I have the utmost respect for Neita but I don't think, at this time, it would be a good idea.

Neita was part of a fairly successful era, is associated with a successful club with a successful culture, and could anyone deny that he could be very valuable mentoring Jesse especially as a kicking coach?

With their AFL team down the bottom the Bombers supporters have rallied around their VFL team like it was the pre AFL era in 1985. So they might be overstating things a bit there.

Yes that is what I was asking as well, is once Goodwin vacated, the position would cease to exist, no chat whatsoever from the club about hiring another coach, but who knows?

My understanding  is that we were looking for an experienced senior assistant to take over Goodwin's role, as well as be there for him in support. It was in regard to Sanderson (this from the HUN):

"MELBOURNE has joined the race to secure Brenton Sanderson as an assistant coach.

The Demons are hunting another respected football strategist to support new senior coach Simon Goodwin ahead of his first season in charge next year."

Perhaps that's now McCarthy's role, but my reading of it is that we're still one coach down.

Also dazzledavey36 kicked the speculation off Post 1 Page 1, he was definitely on the money with Egan. Looks like another great pick up by MFC. GO DEE's !!!

Just saw that Matthew Egan has left Essendon for more opportunities. Very highly rated at Essendon for his development work and interim role he had as a coach when hird got the sack. Coached the VFL team this year.

With the Dees looking to fill in Goodwin role, I wouldn't be surprised if its this bloke.

Yep, good get, Dazzle.

I like Egan. The guy was going to be a superstar before injury.

Maybe it's nothing but I feel that's a recipe for a coach determined to get redemption. Neale Daniher worked out pretty well for us with a similar story.

To get Essendon VFL in to and leading the 2nd week of finals given 10 of their best players were suspended and replaced by top ups and the list had little depth was a great effort.

I'd give Egan the backline and shuffle Rawlings to the forwards or give Egan the forwards. New voices for our forwards and backs would be nice I think.

What is Rawlings still doing there?Surely we can do better.Be there too long and has had minimal effect imo.

We've implemented a totally different and much more attacking game plan and yet only conceded plus 2-3 points a game, i'd say that Rawlings who is in charge of team defense has done a fantastic job.

The impression I got is that it means Macca will be less player development and more like that director of coaching or "senior" assistant we see a lot these days with new coaches.

Gives Goody a bit more support I think,

Exactly.

It's not complicated. It's an older coach with lots of experience who both the coaches and players can go to.

Time will tell. Goodwin for all his excellent training is still an untried coach with a massive job ahead of him. 52 years we have waited.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
