My thoughts exactly the VFL shouldn't be playing finals at a ground used for cricket. The centre wicket area and the practice wickets where Salem went down head first would be as hard as concrete. Not acceptable VFL! And it as if Port is some boutique stadium, it's a bit of a dump.

port melb ground has always been a dump, earl. pathetic decision by vfl to play finals there

Don't think it was the tackler people were angry about, it was the dirty [censored] who threw the knees in after he had been knocked out

Bull. You do that by tackling harder, getting to the ball first. Hitting a guy after his taken a mark is loosing focus

No it's not the mark was taken, what do you think teams like Sydney, Geelong and Hawthorn do, the first two are still in the finals

Get over yourself, dopey.

Sorry Grumpy........thought calling something pathetic was going the man as well?...maybe not.

Salem was killing it before going off. Joel Smith will be a serious player. Dunn and Oliver probably our best. ANB whilst he wins the ball well is unfortunately a  very limited footballer. Important to get a couple of early goals to put it beyond doubt.

Give away 50 meter penalties from gut punches that result in goals ?

Trying to ignore the regular thread derail-ers but can anyone at the game can give some decent analysis as to why Casey is six goals up?

Watching on tv chap, just cleaner with the ball, and getting to the contest in numbers

Just went and checked the practice wicket area where Salo hit his head. Relieved to say that it's still reasonably soft ground underneath and there's some good grass cover. Just not as grassy as the rest of the ground. I saw the hit and it looked bad, but at least he's not hit a concrete type surface.

Working harder than Willie. Dunn has been huge in cutting off Willie,  and Salem and Oliver have looked very good setting us up going forward

Weids is struggling. Although it doesn't seem like conditions are made for talls today.

Has a very good defender playing on him, and he just doesn't have the strength to get near it. The few times he has he's been worried out of it.

Yeah, definitely needs to work on his endurance over summer.

Weed, Kennedy, ANB, Michie, even Trenners and Newton are not on their usual dominant form today. Yet.

Reckon we're missing Grimes a lot.

I think they said in the telecast that he was up in the rooms but obviously wouldn't play any further part today

Our defence has been really dominant, so almost every attack has bounced right back out. Our midfield looks a lot faster and they are running hard to support each other, so we get lots of uncontested handball receives. Smith and Kielty have been marking well up forward, although The Weed is getting smashed.

salem just eats up the ground in front of him. losing him today is a big blow; hopefully as long as we maintain control he'll be right for the big dance next week.

too good for vfl level, as is oliver. hopefully he doesn't cop a suspension.

dunn is much the better player than he or garland.

trengove, anb and kennedy look like good vfl players rather than afl players performing at vfl level. weideman just looks out of touch, big time, but at least he keeps leading up and presenting.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
