Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes. We have treated them well lately.

Let's do it in September when it really hurts.

Would love to see Eddie's face. Might blow up enough to float up and out of the G.

Image result for Eddie McGuire blow up

Seeing us in September action and the Pies out of it next year would also be nice!

Goodwin on SEN tonight - .  Not verbatim - can't type fast enough!

(Italics are my comments)

  • Melksham had his medical yesterday.  Did a bit of labouring during the year.  Lost a few kilos so in good shape.  With Hunt and Wagner’s development, Melksham may be played HB/Wing.  A bit surprised that we still chased Hibberd.
  • Big benefit of the two years was to get to know the club and get to build relationships.  Implication he doesn’t need to spend time now doing all those things.
  • Game plan.  Have built the team ‘from the contest’ out.  We will be competitive around the footy with fast ball movement.
  • Roos was definitely the coach this year.  They talked during the week and Goodwin did stuff during the week and training but Roos was it on game day.
  • Re Jesse: Assumes contract talks are starting soon and thinks Hogan will be staying and will not be worried if it takes 6 weeks, 6 months, next year for him to re-sign.  That should certainly put the Hogan thread into a tizz!
  • On Hibberd, hopefully he wants to come to Melbourne and hopefully we can get a deal done.  Didn’t sound convincing.
  • The Geelong game:  We had a few 6 day breaks late in the season and it eventually caught up with the young team.  Wasn’t the way we played in the first 21 weeks so don’t read too much into it.

Thanks LH.

Thinking that having both Melksham and Hibberd will be good for us, seeing as they'll rotate along the HB and the wing, and perhaps through the middle. I'm skeptical about seeing Lumumba again so having those two will be adequate cover. Also frees up Hunt to move to a wing.

I agree that the Geelong game shouldn't be focused on too much but 'a few 6 day breaks late in the season' is a strange response. I just hope that next season they're able to go in more switched on in the last round, even if we aren't a chance to make finals.

A very genuine interview.  I have been slow to warm to Goodwin but articles like that take me a long way to being a big fan.

He has more in common with Roos than some think: a personal journey of self-awareness/self discovery (via different methods), coaching is about understanding the players and managing them fairly but individually and trusting the people round him.  He highlighted the experience around him: Jackson, Misson, Viney, Taylor, Mahoney, McCartney.  Must say, that is as good as any off-field team in the league, if not the best in every role, certainly up there with the best team!

As each day passes, I look forward to the 2017 season more and more.

well we all hope there is no reason for the knives to come out, but footy journalism wouldn't be what it is without the knives, but i'd prefer we get some early good publicity rather than starting the season with a lot of negative press as has been the case for years. things are genuinely looking on the up, but the battle is only really beginning

Absolutely. I just get a little worried when i have read this sort of stuff before anything has been achieved.

just read the article. Quite interesting. Certainly offers up a side to Goody I wasnt familiar with.

He's been far from perfect, but has been driven. He at least learns from mistakes , his and others.

He's no Saint, in fact he's now a Demon.

I think he'll have a great connect with the players.

I liked what little I saw of his coaching style early last year. I'm hopeful.

2017, bring it on.

I'm a big fan of Goody, I've heard fantastic things about him from players, FD personnel and others who know him.

Still haven't gotten to the bottom of "first in line for the good stuff" but to be honest I couldn't care less.  Although for those moral crusaders on the Essendon and Whitfield threads it must be very uncomfortable with Goody, Hibby and Melksy all bought in by Roosey and Mahoneyey.

Kid will be a gun coach.

Under the cloud of derailing..Id just like to personally answer that throwaway glibness regarding the EFC ancestory of some of our lot..  Some wrongdoing has  been done. Some have been penalised and now find themselves as Demons. Yep thats fine.  Some other detail can be discussed Im sure elsewhere but Im sure if the FD consider  the likes of Milkshake and Piggy to be handy acquisitions then I sincerely await with interest to watch them contribute.

If Jackson and Roos  judge Goody to be the 'right thing" for Melbourne . I have no issue.  ( my issues invariably filter back to a topographic location with strong breezes )

I actually think Goodwin will be a good coach. I also think the Club has done its level best to situate all and sundry  in place to make it happen

Somewhere I read that Melbourne intend to play next season with a bit more flair. I saw some of this last NAB cup. Thought it marvelous but unlikely to be sustainable....at the time.

I think that time is now here.

Goodwin has never denied his mistakes; rather, has been upfront about his past shaping him into the person he is today. Not just the Essendon saga but his gambling addiction beforehand. You can't seriously be comparing Goodwin's behaviour to repulsive ilk like Hird and his endless abdication of responsibility.

As for being a "moral crusader" because I abhor drug cheats and performance enhancing drugs in sport? Well, now I've heard it all! I'd hate to think what label belongs to a person who'd prefer to sweep such unpleasantness under the rug and stick their fingers in their ears (other than 'AFL Integrity Department', of course).

One thing i really like about Goody is he is extremely confident in his own abilities, but also really happy to seek help as well, wants to learn and improve all the time.

He has an amazing understanding of the modern game and a great passion and i would be very surprised if he didn't get this club right up the pointy end of the ladder very soon, a flag will be a tough ask with the AFL Giants dominating everything but i think we'll be right in the mix for a good patch.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
