Quoting myself is poor form but I've swung around on this now that the Lewis reasons for coming are clearer.

If we can get him for a third round pick we would be laughing. As good as Vince & Jones are, I think the likes of Clarry, Trac, JV, 'Gus and Dom would benefit greatly from a couple of years in the trenches with Lewis. So we'd get a ready made first 18 player & on-field coach. Rather than an impediment to development, he's a 2 year investment in improving our young mids.

He fits in with our "competitors only" ethos - he's as fierce as anyone going around. I suspect he would come with a point to prove so rather than topping up his super as I suggested earlier, he would give everything he's got.

Others have outlined his playing attributes so rather than restate them, I'll just offer up the following. If you were picking the side for next year Round 1, Tommy Bugg or Jordan Lewis ?

Nailed it

I made this point a few weeks back. If true it is an enormous loophole...... why limit it to coaching.... the job could be anything

Surely you cannot commit to a job after football and it is outside the salary cap.

For example we want to get Garland out of our salary cap so we offer him his existing salary plus a one year sweetener to retire from the MFC list and be an "on field mentor" at Casey. It cannot be that easy.

Professional property steward & mentor.

I would expect the dees to have an interest in Rockliff, it would a derelection of duty not to enquire and see if we could get him. Obvious considerations as to whether we could do a deal is $'s, cost of a trade and determining if he will be able to fit into the melbourne culture, he has made mistakes, so has a lot of players, does not mean that he could not thrive in a new environment and team culture especially one going up rather than down.

Just out of interest, does anyone have any specifics on Rockliff has allegedly done to earn this rep ? Is he a complete dirtbag of a bloke or perhaps just nit a very good captain ?

Think Brent Moloney - not a bad bloke, but a massive ego and not the brightest bulb.

I reckon it's best not to speculate about what Goldestein may or may not have done given some of the talk around.

regarding Rockliff, i think a lot of his issues are Brisbane related, feeling he has to carry a terrible side and the captaincy not really helping his footy either, a fresh start at a team where winning is a bit more regular, the direction is clear and he can just be a player might be great for him, if we could get him for the price going around that the Lions would take i'd 100% be grabbing him

Like this but can't see us landing Lewis, Hibberd and Rockliff without compromising future drafts. The

My thoughts would be the 2017 second round (plus steak knives) for Hibbard keeping our 2017 first available for selection or trade next year.

Edit: so i guess it would compromise our 2017 draft but I dont think it would be the end of the world having a pick between 12-18 then our next pick being in round three with what our list would look like if we can land these players

Agree on the Goldstein thing or the mods will end up vacuuming up posts all weekend

Rockliff is an age we have a shortfall in. He's also a goal kicker. Just get the feeling he could slot into our lineup & fill a need. At the moment, if his personal issues aren't a complete roadblock, he appears a potential bargain.

Absolutely! i reckon he's a clear upgrade on someone like Vanders, a big body mid/good half forward.

He would need to be a combination of cultural cancer, and an asking price of our 2017 first round for me to baulk.

OFC i have no idea of what other deals we are working on which may involve our remaining currency, so Rocky might not even have been considered. I would seriously love to be a fly on the wall at whatever swanky resort our recruiting team is currently holidaying at.

Those issues might well be Brisbane related but the way he has handled them are suggestive of his character. What makes it worse is the fact that he is the elected leader of the team and, as such had a responsibility towards the club to conduct himself with the proper discretion if he was frustrated with what was going on at the club.

Melbourne is a club that is distancing itself from what has been a poor culture. If you like, - a losing culture, where divisive characters abound. We don't need a Rockliff now of all times. If we need someone else (after Lewis and Hibberd who seems committed), then Barlow from the Dockers would fit the bill much  better.

Absolute can not believe the news I've got this morning.

Brisbane and Melbourne have agreed on handshake that rockliff will come to Melbourne for Dunn. We will give our first rounder for next year to Brisbane (which we bank on being 9-13) for Brisbane priority pick this year (19) as well as turning our second round pick (29) into a pick in mid 30s, which Brisbane are trying to get their hands on before end of trade week.

This is also delaying the Hibberd deal.

Brisbane will pay a portion of the salary. The only things holding this deal up are Brisbane not having a mid 30s pick yet, and rockliff not having results from a medical back yet.

Melbourne in- rockliff, end of round 1 pick (19); mid 30s pick.

Out, Dunn, 2017 Rd 1 pick (9-13) 2016 Rd 2 pick) 29

Source- both the new Brisbane football operations manager; and my uncle, fitzroy great, Brisbane scout and father of current afl captain. Oh and for any sceptics which I'm sure there are, this is out of the mouth of both.

Wow huge news!!!

Not sure how we are meant to get hibbard if this plays out.. Id hate for us to trade 19 for him and I doubt the bummers will take our mid 30s pick we get back from brissy. And by trading our 17 first round I dont beleive we can trade our 17 second as well?

Gr8 news, Gen dee.

As for 'source' you have more than enough credibilty on here you don't need to give that info to doubters, imo.

Keep up the good work!

So do we then pass on 19 for Hibbered and hope to get an upgrade on our third round pick?

Fitzroy great and father of current AFL captain = John Murphy?

David Noble = BL Operations Manager

Adding Rockliff and lewis as well as hibberd would be a fantastic. Both Rockliff and Lewis are captain/vice captain material they would add a lot of maturity and leadership to our team. The dees have often faded during games hopefully the inclusion of these guys will help other players step up so this does not happen.

maybe we can do a swap on 19 with someone for a couple of other picks one that we can then trade to meet Essendons requirements and still improve our position in another draft position.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
