Well Stuie and mo64, i said the Mitchell story could be terrible for the club and now with Lewis in the same boat, Barrett just said "that the Hawks are in crisis, after forcing Mitchell out of the club and now having done the same to Lewis. " Lewis is reportedly furious with Clarko and the Hawks and feels betrayed after his loyalty.

Now they're saying Clarko and Lewis met again today and he will now stay a Hawk.

He had apparently agreed to a contract with us in principle, Hogan a big factor in his choice to play for us before back flip.

Quite a few of the Hawks brigade are getting miffed that they have taken pay cuts yet JOM, Mitchell and Vickery are coming in on big wedge.

There's more to play out here,

Family Club. Yeah.

It's nice to be considered/chosen rather than laughed and snorted at.
Been a while since that happened...

Would be nicer to be considered/chosen by the 22-25 yo guns like Trelor, Dangerfield, Mitchell, rather than those at the end of their career... but yes, get your point.

This.

I'm surprised Lewis agreed to the back flip.  Clearly he wasn't happy, once he agreed a deal with us it should have been too little, too late when they came crawling back with their tails between their legs.

Agreed. Hence my previous post wondering what Hawks said/offered to get him to stay.

Jonathan Marsh from the Pies has requested to go back to WA.

With Frost also leaving, who are their key backs for 2017?  Daniel Wells?  Chris Mayne?

Nathan Brown and Sam Reid. They can have Garland if they like.

Clarkson still managed to talk him into staying. Lewis' manager Pickering is a weasel. He's just trying to bump up his commission.

He is still un-signed for 2017, though.  No doubt they will bump up the offer now.

Clarkson has always been a loose canon and it was Chris Fagan that held it all together.  He has only been gone 10 days and it starts to unravel.

Clarkson has upset a big batch of players suggesting they be the ones to go to GCS or like Mitchell and Lewis to move on.

They have all accepted 'unders' to play there.

It may well be everyman for himself in the future!

What's interesting is i would have thought they'd have said both those things about Mitchell, but now he's off to WCE so that seems to have less meaning if a really good offer/opportunity comes on

I think it was Clarkson that raised it with Simpson in a conversation 12 months ago? from one report I heard/read.

He's been considering the way & right time to do this renewal for a while. the timing was the thing, & the Hawks players have shown its time now.

Today's NAB Trade Radio chatter and the Dees get a mention first up:-

• Hawthorn vice-captain Jordan Lewis today nearly became the second high-profile player to leave the Hawks this NAB AFL Trade Period. However, a last-minute backflip from the Hawks put an end to a move which would have seen Lewis become a Demon.

• Brad Hill will play with his brother at Fremantle next season at the Hawks and the Dockers finalised a trade this morning which sends pick 23 back to the Hawks.

• Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens has officially requested a trade to St Kilda. The two clubs will now work to get a deal done.

• Port Adelaide midfielder Brendon Ah Chee remains interested in a move to Gold Coast if a spot on the club's list becomes available.

• GWS will take selection No.2 to the NAB AFL Draft after exchanging picks 3 and 16 with the Brisbane Lions, as well as a group of later selections.

• Brisbane Lions' defender Pearce Hanley appears certain to find his way to the Gold Coast during this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.

DONE DEALS SO FAR

Tyrone Vickery moves from Richmond to Hawthorn as a restricted free agent
Daniel Wells moves from North Melbourne to Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent
Cam McCarthy, pick 7, 34 and 72 move from GWS to Fremantle in exchange for pick 3.
Chris Mayne moves from Fremantle to Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent
Brad Hill traded from Hawthorn to Fremantle in exchange for pick 23
Pick 3 and 16 traded from GWS to Brisbane in exchange for picks 2, 31, 51 and 60.

Sounds to me like Clarko gave more than one player the "maybe a trade would be the best thing for your coaching career" spiel, and he got caught out once Mitchell agreed to take the bait.

Bit of a dick move from Lewis to backflip on a trade/contract agreed in principal, especially if we've been holding out a spot for him during this trade period (which could explain our relative quietness thus far).

As a side note - it's once again impressive that the club didn't leak this as it was occurring.  Lewis approached us, we did all the right things, and it wasn't until the Hawks back flipped on it that it all comes to light.

if i could i would double like tips. Well run clubs don't leak.

Very true; proven once again.

If only people would bare this in mind before complaining about our lack of 'activity'.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
