Tom Rockliff

Rocky might not be coming to us, but I expect Brisbane to move him for whatever they can salvage if they don't have a deal on the table an hour out from the deadline.

Interested or not, deadline deals are what Mahoney does best! Slim to no chance he gets here, but Mahoney might be interested if the price softens. You just never know during the silly season.

I'm not 100% putting the pen through him just yet but for me it never felt likely, just a bit of chat and innuendo. Like Lewis at the start of this period he wasn't someone we were seeking out, but who knows things can change quite quickly.

Excellent Authority that Tom Rockcliff will be at one of three clubs next year.

1. The Brisbane Lions

2. Adelaide Crows (if the Gibbs deal falls through )

3. The Saints are/have been sniffing around.

He is simply not what the Melbourne footy club needs, if we were going to make a huge pass at an A grade player i'd be stocking up picks and $$$ for Josh Kelly when he comes out of contract next year, he fits our needs perfectly.

Interesting that Gen Dee posted this rubbish yesterday, caused a stir and has now run away and hid in a hole somewhere.

Jordan Lewis will offer us more than Rockcliff would have, he's a true leader with a fantastic footy brain and it doesn't cost us the world to get him, and he's still in my opinion our second best mid.

There's no doubt they'd stake a claim and I usually preface my comments about our young group by excluding GWS, but I'm pretty comfortable where we sit against them.

Gawn is better than any under 25 ruck they have.

Hogan is at least the equivalent of Cameron as a key forward.  Cameron kicks more goals, but I prefer Hogan's forward play.  Lobb is a gun.  I see no reason Weideman won't become the equal of Patton on what I've seen.

The two McDonalds will be very good key defenders for a long time.  Losing Marchbank won't help them.

Oliver, Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Salem, Stretch, Hunt, Kent, and Petracca measure up against Shiel, Coniglio, Scully, Greene, Kelly, Whitfield, Smith, Williams, Wilson, and Haynes.

And a little birdy tells me that internally they rate Joel Smith the equal of Hunt, so watch this space in 2017. ;)

I wouldn't spend time arguing the point, but I see our young group very much the equal of GWS.

A well-presented argument overall. I reckon the highlighted GWS group you've mentioned above is ahead of our group but they're also probably slightly more experienced so hopefully in a year or two they go past them.

I excitedly agree with all the other points you've made here.

Didn't realise i had posted as much as i have haha, apologies to anyone else who was frustrated by that, happy for the mods to put a limit on my posting or something if they feel that's needed.

real shame that this one hasn't come through, Rocky would have been a great inclusion.

No need for apologies.

I think most understood it as wishful positivity !!

Such as?

has to be more to it than a couple of poor tweets for the whole football community to shun a player of his ability that is up for grabs

If rumours posted by Lions fans are to be believed he'd be more suited for the Bombers or with Dane Swan.

First let me start by saying I don't think we need Rockliff and I hope we don't get him.

But the video on Fox Mahoney says "I have no interest in Tom" which in itself could mean either the club has no interest in Rockliff or he Mahoney has no interest in him. I dint think he is coming but the video is not definitive.

Just sayin!?

We don't leak anymore - until something manifests and its beneficial trade wise to announce publicly that we are interested in a player, mahoney will keep his cards close to his chest.

I wouldn't rule this out yet.

Mahoney said I have no interest. All other references were we this or we're that, it is his only I.

At my place I have no interest in flowers on the dining table, we always have flowers on the dining table. Mahoney may be voicing his opinion only, others may have other opinions.

Insert gif of grasping at straws here or use your imagination.

Mahoney speaks on behalf of the club, I would assume just a mistake. Rockliff is not coming.

Oh dear.

Mahoney could say I have no interest, or the club has no intetest, he could even swear on the bible, but still some supporters wouldn't take it on face value.

One club saying they won't trade a player is miles away from another club saying they have zero interest in a player.  The motivations are vastly different.

In fact, I can't remember a club during trade period declaring they have no interest in a player only for that player to go there.

Maybe someone can share an example where it's happened ?  And I reiterate that I'm talking about the narrow window of trade period.

It has been established on a criminal standard of proof that we will not be recruiting Rockliff during this trade period.

Need now only to focus on landing Hibberd and Lewis and whatever other trade/s that we are currently pursuing that are not the subject of b.s. rumours on this thread (i.e. potential trades that are not known beyond Mahoney and a few others relevant to those discussions).

I can't believe how offended people get when rumours turn out to be wrong.

Again, if someone is making stuff up then ban them but most times people are just passing on what they hear.

GD was either lying about the source (David Noble - Operations Manager Brisbane) or lying about the trade.

If he'slying about the source it could have been a rumour. If he's lying about the trade it cannot have been a rumour but a fabrication.

I like rumours but I don't like fabrications.

Are you suggesting the trade is off?

Or Noble actually did say this, Vogon, but the trade discussion never went any further. There are shades.

Do you have two accounts?

Yes but then there was a fair bit of other information added to add weight to the rumour.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
