No playing Geelong in Geelong

Any home game at Etihad is to be a Friday Night game so as to make the most of having to play there.  Against Adelaide I guess?

No Friday Night games for Essendon.

Keep ANZAC Day Eve.

Saints at the MCG

Bye after Darwin.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You're a funny, funny man.

I think we forfeited our negotiating rights for Friday nights and Live FTA games by finishing 11th and having such a small membership base.

My wish: An MCG dominated draw where we win most of the first 6 games, so:

  • Goodwin and the club get some 'clear air' - he will get a shorter honeymoon period than most new coaches.
  • Ensure the momentum of Player belief doesn't faulter further (given recent losses).
  • To support our membership drive.

Unfortunately, we are now in the middle of the ladder tier and will get a tougher draw than recent years - just hope there aren't too many top 4/6/8 teams in that first 6 weeks.  That said, it is absolutely critical we get off to a winning start so it doesn't matter who we play the fallout from losing most of the first 6 should not be underestimated:  the media will create a new whipping boy, dredge up old headlines and the achievements of the Roos era will be quickly forgotten.  And Demonland will go balllistic!

I'm not being pessimistic about 2017 just answering the question in terms of what I think is most important for the club overall.

If I could only have one wish it would be for a home Friday night game, in the first month, against Richmond, Carlton, Essendon or Hawthorn. I don't see it happening, though.

I hope we still get a Friday night game, even if it's an away game, but after the last fortnight I'm not that confident.

I also hope to see no home game at Etihad but, again, can't see that happening, so the next best alternative is that we host an interstate side instead of St Kilda.

Would be nice for us to avoid going to Geelong, too. If we go, though, I hope to see Carlton, Richmond, Collingwood or Essendon sent down there with us.

I've been playing a "season" on AFL Live 2 on Ps3. I am playing as Melbourne with a random season schedule..

Perhaps we could use the suggestions of my games AI?

Round 1 V Geelong @ TIO

Round 2 V Richmond @ TIO

Round 3 V Eagles @ Domain

Round 4 V Brisbane @ Gabba

Round 5 Essendon @ TIO

Round 6 Port @ TIO

Round 7 North @ Etihad

and it goes on......

Couldn't agree more. Its all about the first 6-8 weeks if we get a draw that allows us to sit around the 5-3 mark coming into the middle third of the year it would be a good result. I would rather a tough finish than a tough start. Momentum and confidence does so much especially to a young group like ours.

Don't think that's random.

Looks like an AFL house approved fixture to me.

They're probably coding those in to desensitise fans. It's all part of the plan...

It going to be a bad fixture. I can already tell as we play twice in the NT and have to play two return games.

no chance we'll have the bye after one of them?

Perhaps this is a little premature, but what are your early wishes for the 2017 fixture?

Mine would have to be:

1. St.Kilda at the MCG (so we can beat that hoodoo)

2. Geelong at the MCG (haven't played them there since 2014)

3. West Coast at the MCG (last time was round 2 2014)

4. Richmond twice

5. Essendon round 1 Friday night (saw that Essendon was proposing this. I think it'd be an awesome way to start 2017 with a win at the G on a Friday night)

1. to play St.Kilda up in the Northern Territory

2  Essendon round 1 Friday night (saw that Essendon was proposing this. I think it'd be an awesome way to start 2017 with a win at the G on a Friday night)

Posted

well we played a lot better against good teams this year than poor teams so I'm hoping for a terrible draw full of top 8 teams.

No Port in Alice Springs. (we need to win these games, or at least be the only team that plays there every year to get any benefit from selling ourselves.)

No Freo in Darwin. (As above)

No Etihad tenants as home games at Etihad.

No Cats in Geelong.

Essedon in any round but the first. They don't deserve it.

Carlton/Coll/Essedon/Richmond home games, wearing our traditional jumper.

Other than that, meh.

Oh, no tassie games either.

In terms of the first handful of games my preference would be in this order:

Round 1 - Richmond (H)

Round 2 - Richmond (A)

Round 3 - Richmond (H)

Round 4 - Richmond (A)

Round 5 - Richmond (H)

Round 6 - Richmond (A)

I want to know dates soon so I can plan my wedding. :P When is the fixture usually released? Not until early in the year is it?

Ah, brilliant. Thanks LH. I think the lady will allow me until October to book, so that works well. :D

I think we are required one Ethihad home game a year - if we have to I'd prefer it to be against Brisbane (pending that it's not like that game in 2014)

Hopefully we can play North at the MCG as well to help break that hoodoo.

I think you are correct, but this is a wish list only. You can back it in that Port will get another free ride courtesy of us in Alice Springs also. Infuriating.

If she doesn't allow you to commit to the Demons 24/7 the relationship is pointless.

PS - I've gone to the spare room to secretly make this point to you...but that's not the issue.

I'd like to play Essendon at the MCG on Sunday 1 May. Why? Because Anzac Day falls on a Tuesday in 2017 meaning Collingwood and Essendon will only get a five day break if the AFL ensures all teams play the next round on the traditional Friday/Saturday/Sunday slots. I'd also be happy if it were to be Collingwood, but given we play them on QB, I assume playing them in May would be less likely.

We'll be playing Richmond the night before so no real difference and we probably will be playing the Bombers or Pies for that reason.

Bye after the Darwin game - should be built in to the fixture for both clubs as a player welfare issue, we shouldn't even have to request it but the AFL is the Absolute Farce League

Home games vs Essendon and Carlton (once in a decade for both of then)

Would like to not have to go to Geelong for a change but that's probably beyond our control

St.Kilda, North and Dogs at the G though realistically we'll be playing at least one at Docklands

Posted

We'll get a home game at Etihad, I believe every Vic club is contracted to play at least one home game there per season. I'd like:

- Home game against Essendon

- Home game against Carlton

- WCE at the G

- Bye after Darwin

- Last game a home game at the G (Haven't had a home game at the MCG in the last round since 2010...)

If we're to have a home game at Etihad (and I wish we didn't) wouldn't we be better off for commercial reasons having it against a Victorian team?  I don't accept that from a playing point of view we should wish to avoid any particular ground. If we're good enough, the ground we play at shouldn't matter.

Spot on LDC you do not see the top sides bleating about where they play.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
