GAMEDAY - Round 22

The forecast is for some rain in the afternoon which shouldn't worry us greatly. In fact, for a club that has stood on the edge of the abyss so many times in the past ten years, nothing should worry us.

The experience of being in contention this far into the season is something we should savour. This is a glimpse into our future.

Win. That's all there is to it.

Win today and the Melbourne Football Club stays alive until the very last game of the season. That's all a supporter can ask of their club.

Feeling both excited and nervous about today. A 10 goal win would mean a massive build up to the Cats game however I feel like the blues will want to make a statement.

Need big games from Oliver and Petracca  with Hunt to take out the rounds rising star nom.

A 100 point win would do us quite nicely today Boys!

we can't be worried about percentage next week.

ten goal win makes the equation simple next week

This game will tell us a lot about this team.

On paper we should win,

To stay in the season we must win.

To give us every chance to make the finals we must will well.

This will tell us what players have the mental fortitude to make it in a good side, this will show us which players will drive us to the next levels. Our attack and desperation at the ball and the player with the ball should be much higher than Carltons.

Our willingness to help out our defence should be at its highest it's ever been.

It should hold up, I got the hairdresser to make it extra permanent.

I have woken up with a mixture of emotions this morning - excitement, nervousness, wonderment (that we have got through this strange season and still might be finals contenders) and above all hope that the stars are aligning and the outcome is positive for us all.

I am off to do some yoga now where today's intention will be not about world peace but for a Demons win.❤️?

My Collingwood supporter husband is coming along with me to the game decked out in red and blue - he dislikes Carlton immensely so he wasn't hard to persuade.

Go Dee's ❤️?❤️?

Sadly I am unable to attend today's game Ethan, or I would have awarded you the honour of supplying my alcoholic beverages pre, during and post game.

How disappointing for you!

However, if you see a toothless bloke in ill fitting Demon clobber you should buy the sheila he is with a drink.

Any statement the Blues might want to make pales into insignificance compared to the one we're trying to make this week and next.

I hope his "credentials" are up to snuff.

Be ferocious demons and really make a statement today

Biggest game in a decade.

We must win...  it will make next week and the lead up the Cats game amazing...  everyone will be cheering for us to make the finals and knock out boring old North.  We will get so much positive press all week and we will officially be a footy club again.

Come on Dees get it done today!

News headlines tomorrow

DEMONS POST MASSIVE WIN

BRAD SCOTT RUSHED TO HOSPITAL- suspected bowel rupture.

I have the most annoying Carlton supporters at work. Will be depressing if we lose

Just focus on our attack on ball, man and spread and the win and % will look after itself. It would be very easy for a young side to take in the plaudits of this week and already have an eye on Geelong (as some on here have) or focus on winning big rather than the process of winning. Another good test for our senior leaders to lead the way.

Let's remember it's (possibly/probably?) Roosey's last game at the G.

if nothing else, Dees, turn it on for us to thank the man!

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
