WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD

Featured Replies

The problem with Hibberd is that he's really driven home how deficient we are in key areas of the game. That, and his moustache.

Was reading the age article going through what they deem as the most successful trades of last year - and whilst lewis got a tiny nod, was amazed to not see one word written about Pig.

yes he was injured but he's been huge for us since coming into the side and just gets better each week.

Broader accolades outside the club or not - he's been a phenomenal pick up for us and I've no doubt if this article is re-visited at seasons end his name will be well up that list.

Has played 4 games and has probably been in the top 3 players on the ground in 3 of them!

Been an absolute steal.

Thanks Stingray.  Hibberd is a great ball distributor in defence allowing the not so good kicks to do their thing , but he provides great outlet, like Salem.   Watching him end to end at Adelaide last week was insightful.

Huge pick up by Goodwin.

Rohan Connolly barracks for Essendon. His bias won't let him publicly acknowledge that his team let go of a player that makes our team considerably better.

He even lists a top 10. Jarrod Witts is in it.

Whether the oversight was intentional or otherwise, it is credibility destroying. Hibberd is clearly performing well above most of those players and has been in our top 5 consistently since joining the team.

Anyway, whatever. I'm long past looking for external plaudits. Hibberd was a fantastic trade and I couldn't be more pleased with his output to date. I knew he was a decent player but so far he's been even better than I anticipated.

Goodwin's targeting of Hibberd and the subsequent value he's provided to the team and enhancing our ability to play the way Goody wants us to play is an insight into how deeply Goodwin has wrapped his head around this team, our evolving game style and what we need to improve it.

Its very encouraging on multiple levels.

correct.  he would be very aware of hibbo's great form. he really does his professionalism no favours by this sin of omission, but nevertheless just confirms my opinion of the arrogance of essendrug's supporters

Best 3 games from a backman since Danny Hughes - the 1980's not the 2000's

Averaging 29 disposals a game off half back.

That is easily the highest average of any non-midfielder, and good for 16th best in the league.

Wow. That's actually phenomenal!

I hope he is brought up in all Australian talk leading in to voting.

I don't care if he missed the first four games in the season, he must be in All-Australian discussions if he keeps this form up over the second half of the season.

He'll easily give the Bluey a shake as well.

Starting to be his assertive self, and looks completely and happily for us, at home. Cheers to those unforgiving few. I think our backline is getting faster as the season goes.....

And not just that, his poise, decision making and skill are all elite. A good interceptor too.

When the McDonalds get it and even Frost, Hunt and Lewis, there's the occasional heart in mouth moment. But when Hibberd gets it you know you can relax.

Gun.

He's tough, doesn't panic, prefers to kick it out of defense, a good disposer of the ball, attacks the ball and wants the ball. Fast becoming the general of our back line (if he hasn't already).

I cant thank  * essendon enough for this  bloke. He's  probably our best backman atm

Not sure I've seen a better HBF for us.

He was very good in '14. But from memory not this good. Had a down 2015, understandably I suppose.

Essendon would've won with him tonight for sure.

Yes, he was easily this good in his best year at Essendon.

It's upsetting that you don't know this.

It only confirms my concerns that so many supporters on here are one-eyed.

There are good footballers out there everyone. Outside the walls of the MFC. There are some really good players.

I generally like your posts Steve, but holy hell you can be a condescending little [censored] at the best of times.  Are you so much better that you are levitating above the rest of us or what?

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
