Just to throw around some other possible scenarios, how would people feel about:

- Hibberd and Essendons 2016 2nd rounder (19?) - for - Our 2017 first found (12?)

- Hibberd and Essendons 2016 2nd rounder (19?) - for - Salem and our 2016 3rd rounder (46?)

- Hibberd - for - Grimes/other fringe player plus or 2016 3rd round (46?)

Just a straight swap with the 2nd round pick should definitely be enough.

I don't know why anyone would want to trade Salem he's all class.

Can't trade Grimes because he is a free agent, Dunn seems a more logical trade.

Going to be interesting trade period, especially after the giddy heights of the last couple of years. After Round 2 for Hibberd, if we even get a pick in the top 40 or so, it'll be the result of some more Taylor/Viney magic. We don't even have a James Frawley ready to leave either, none of the players who might go are worth anything.

Oliver, Weideman, Brayshaw, Petracca, Tyson, Salem.

Guess the party had to end sometime.

Great picks but the suffering involved in getting them was immense. Happy to leave that party!

What about Hibberd for an unwanted member of our health & fitness staff.

Absolutely! Proven player ready now vs a pick that may take 2 plus years to develop into something/or nothing at all.

Hibberd fills a gaping hole in our defence that existed even before Lumumba got knocked out of the game. Our recruitment team has had him in their sights since before the start of the year and getting him across the line is a huge win.

2nd round offer is a fair deal.... the guy is their best defender by far.

If it seems fair to us, you can bet it wont seem fair to the drug cheats.

Must be a great offer on the table from us to shake one of them from the tree.

I must admit I don't know really anything about Hibby.

Can someone please explain and if this is a good move for us???

Thanks in advance boys and girls.

It's a good move for us until he takes up another clubs offer. Then he's the sort of player we didn't really need anyway.

Our second pick deal done move on

Like as a second rounder. Has a bit of mongrel in him which will be welcomed.

Now find me a second ruck and pacy mid in the mould of Isaac Smith and I'll be happy.

Dons flogs are quoting the velvet sledgehammer along the lines of: Hurley was the o e they wanted, Dons would rather pay Mc-Tip half of what Hibb wanted.

I could [censored] about mine and stu's Hibberd thread being merged with the Hurley one. And how five months worth of Hibberd discussion is now lost in that thread. But I'm above that.... *grinds teeth*

Anyway, second rounder seems fair to both parties. Hopefully it doesn't get complicated further because Essendon.

I'm in favour of the trade suggested elsewhere - Melksham for Hibberd.

Worst comment I have seen

Dawes and Lumumba for Hibberd

I'll be looking at Weideman as the equivalent of this year's first rounder.  But with a year already in the system.

While I wouldn't have closed the thread, I'm genuinely surprised people wanted to retain two threads simultaneously discussing the same event. Ah well.

Yep, spilt milk etc.

Got this from today someone involved at the bombers:

"Rumours swirling that Hibberd has been offered around 725k for 4 years from the Dees"

That better be a joke. No way he's worth close to that.

Our guns are still young. I think we are in position to front load a couple of 24 to 28 year old's contracts and make it work.

Nah, it's only 600. And 125 in cash under the table to Goodwin.

That has to be rubbish.

We do not have any player on $700k and for Hibbered to come in anywhere near that is an insult to our whole team!

Just can't imagine Mahoney and co agreeing to that when they have worked so hard to 'pay what a player is worth'.  If we have offered that, it makes a mockery of our paying 'what a player is worth' policy.  Total loss of cred with the players would result and the likes of Tom Mc would have every reason to be might pi--ed off.

Agreed, I said as much the same to the source - my guess is just a bomber trying to justify losing a best 22 player.

Like the velvety sledgehammer saying keeping Hurley and Walla = more important than having those dudes plus Hibberd.

Would probably have cost us 550k to get him across. Might be 725k in the first year?

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
