Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Hogan is no dead cert to get up.

Nice to have genuine marking power.

Pedo won himself a car just about.

I said it during the game and I'll say it again, the forward line looked better without Hogan.

This doesn't mean Hogan shouldn't play, but he needs to change the way he plays. Pedersen provided so many contests and was a genuine leading target, Hogan just wants the ball on his head.

The rest of the team need to be smarter when he does play.

Reality is, Hogan has all the makings of a superstar, in the Franklin, Carey, Brown category.  These sides all won premierships without relying on those players.  When Hogan plays, we are too reliant on him.  Then we see what happens when he doesn't play (i.e. Hawthorn/Geelong).

For next week, if Hogan is 100%, he must come in.  I just have no idea who goes out, and kind of hope that someone misses out because they aren't 100%, rather than having to make way.

JKH got 4 goals for Casey and NB had 36 possessions. Surely both could be considered (or Salem)?

I suspect he would, had this not been his first game back in a long time.  Still, if JKH keeps this up for the remainder of the VFL season he may well get a reprieve.

To hose who saw the Casey game - has Kennedy earned a recall over Garlett, who has been down for  few weeks now

Against the Eagles he did. Against the Saints at Etihad he did (it worked last time we played them). But on so many occasions he plays as a fantastic leading CHF who then doubles back towards goal. Before he hurt his knee he was doing that wonderfully against Gold Coast last week. He's not so great at leading out of full forward because it's not his position and he wants to be there for the long kick inside 50. Some small part of that might be selfishness but I think it's mainly that he's mentally and physically tired and tired of seeing the ball kicked long to Dawes or smalls who can't mark it.

The forward line looked better without Hogan playing badly stuck inside 50, but there's no way it was better than if Hogan was playing one of his great 10 mark games leading up around the ground and then doubling back inside 50!

The NO CHANGE brigade shouldn't be so quick to ascribe Hogan out as one of the causal factors in that win. It might have been a cause for us not winning by 55 points (No offence Pederson) Who knows. Hogan may come in and help us destroy Port by a lot more than if be the difference that can get us over the line. Pederson has some fitness queries doesn't he? Port will run him around.

If Hogan replaces Garlett and Pedo stays, then I think we need Kennedy in. Port are a running team and their win against us last time around was across the board, We need to bring the same effort from yesterday, obviously.

It's such a tough balance, because on the one hand you always try to make the team better, but on the other it's pretty hard not to reward the players who pushed through yesterday.

I suspect Hogan will need another week anyway - they'll probably give him the week off travelling is my guess.

Weeds was a surprise, perhaps there will be another! Hogan may replace Pedersen, Garlett might be replaced by JKH or no change. At the end of the year we can give Dawes back to the woods,Garlett to the blues as if any of their respective old team coaches would give a sh.t.

All this talk about Garlett, he did his role, the team played as a team, the 'forwards' ie Petracca, Pedersen, Garlett, Weiderman and VDB all had between 10-15 disposals

Petracca - stay

Pedersen > Hogan

Garlett > JKH

Weideman - stay

Vanders - stay

Watch the replay. I thought Garlett had a bad game but his pressure acts in the last quarter really helped the win.

Pedo for Hogan that will be the only change unless someone needs a rest.

He might not get on the end of the goals, but I agree, he helped cause the Dureya drop for the Petracca easy goal also

Jeffy was fairly quiet but had a few goal assists.

He tackled well and has the pace we need.

If Pederson goes out for Jesse he would be fairly hard done by.

And every kick that the Weed has had has sailed through the goal posts. Probably the only player in the history section of the VFL/AFL where 100% of his disposals by foot have been goals!

Who knows what or who we will see this week.........I thought Roos had brought in Bugg to tag Mitchell and he went nowhere near him, Hawthorn probably thought the same thing, and we had Garlett starting on the wing.

When you speak to Pedo, he is the ultimate team man, and very popular with his team mates as you can see from the reaction when he kicked his goal, he will accept whatever decision is made on the chin

Jetta looked very groggy on the 1/2 time siren.  He must have crashed into Duryea while trying to spoil; stayed crouched, rubbing his head.  Jet has had a few concussion incidents.  If post game testing shows he has had a delayed reaction or a relapse he may miss.  Hope not.

I would have thought if Hogan is to return, Weideman would go out. He really struggled to see out quarters, let alone the game. I love what he brings, but at this time I'd be keeping in Pedersen (who I thought was just OK yesterday, but still didn't do enough. In fact, I'm amazed he was given votes in the Demonland POTY)..

Garlett is clearly struggling. It's not like he's not trying, but if he's not impacting the scoreboard he needs to bring more. For example, one tackle is not enough. I'd be happy to give him another week unless someone at Casey who could play a similar role (eg, Kennedy or ANB) needs to be rewarded for consistent performance.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
