His chase and tackle of Sicily in the last qtr was massive. Game saver

Actually, that's a good point. That spoil, going back with the flight 20m out, was amazing. Nine times out of ten the defender gives away a free in that situation, or doesn't contest strongly enough to prevent the mark.

All class.

Garlett still is a concern. Does very little weeks on end.

What about putting in Jkh instead? He booted four in the 2s.

Garlett's lack of form is worrying.

Hogan if fit is a must in for me but I agree with the problem of dropping anyone. Pedo may be the unlucky one. Tough call but we need Hogan's marking around the ground.

I think that was JKH's third game for the year and his first in Casey Seniors.

You also have to consider the opposition who where obviously well below Casey.

From that game at Casey to Port at home is a quantum leap.

IMO there is no chance he would be promoted at this point.

Fair point. Hes had a tough run of injuries.

What about Hogan if hes fit?  IMO hes a must in.

I agree with Deever. JKH and Hogan for Garlett and Pedo (both unfortunate)! Although JKH was playing against sub-optimal opposition, he was on limited game time and three of his four goals came in the one quarter. Pedo only played as an emergency for Hogan, so, if fit, Hogan's inclusion should be automatic. It is in our interest for Hogan to play alongside Weideman.

Hogan to miss another week

For some reason we look better up forward without him

There is no way we look better without Hogan in the team.  His work up and down the ground is massive and he is consistently doubled team when playing deep forward.   He is our best forward by the length of the Flemington straight.

You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Kennedy comes in before JKH.

Hogan will play if fit. He's arguably our best player. Teams aren't going to give a Riewoldt or Kennedy a game in the twos after a 'depth' player comes in and plays well.

I'm a big fan of Cam in the way he goes about it, seems to be hard at the contest with good mits. Have a big soft spot for him for some unknown reason but he really is just a depth utility player and he surely knows this also.

He would add more value right now than the Weed but with the season pretty much cooked lets get the Weed up and about with some game time now to set up a big pre season.

In: Hogan (obviously)

Out: Pedo (sadly for me)

Our forward line seemed to function well without Jesse in it last weekend with players lowering there eyes but calls from leaving him out because of this is a bit silly. After all, he's the not the one bombing it into himself continually out numbered. If anything there should be more numbers available when lowering the eyes when he is double and triple teamed.

Garlett I'd keep in. Always struggles vs Hawks and I'm sure he will bounce back.

Dont feel the love others have for Kennedy. Not fussed if he stays in the twos

Agreed Deko

Perhaps its a combination of how Hogan plays and our guys responding that causes us to be one dimensional into the 50.

The coaches have to improve this aspect quickly as its costing us goals and opportunities for goals

I think it functions better without Dawes...

...as one of the AFL coaches said during the week, defenders are smart these days and know when a player is not being used (decoy) and they will push back in numbers to the main man.

Weed with Jesse will be a good combination so it's time to get them used to working together along with Watts, Kent, Jeffy and Petrac.

Pedersen is a good back up and will play a bit more footy when we need to match up. I think he may have earned himself another contract (1 year) on the weekend.

Right now, Max Gawn is our best player by quite some margin. Basically when he has an outstanding game, particularly his marking around the ground and his dominant hits outs to position we usually win. No- one else has that influence.

This in the long term though is a worry. We really need another ruckman forward to not only take the pressure off him, but also to optinize his potential match winning forward play.

i very much advocate we promote Spencil to second ruck. Combined they were an unbeatable combination last year against Geelong, they cal also be again in the long term. I know the argument is it takes away pace an flexibility up forward. It also though after a match up for the opposition which very few could match. Imagine jesse, weeds, watts and Maxy in the forward half on a bright sunny day (eg finals), no team could match that.

Bring it on.

I feel this is a really important match. We played very well against the Hawks and we were all obviously very happy, along with the players. However, if we come out and put in a poor performance this week it does undo some of that work.

Would love to come out and see the boys play very similar football which I believe will get us the win!

My only change would be Hogan in for Pedo. Pedo played well but he is behind Hogan and I like Weeds at FF.

And honestly have no idea who comes out for Hoges...even if he comes in at all.

there is only 2 choices for hogan. weidemann or pedo. one is the future, one is not. stiff for pedo this time but he's depth and will get another chance another time

** assumes hogan's knee is fully ok

Hogan isn't our best player.
He is borderline our best forward of recent weeks.
He last kicked a goal a month ago.

Not dissing the bloke, love him, hope he stays and he is always developing, but in the 2 games we have been without him we have beaten Geelong and Hawthorne...Well.

are people actually debating whether to bring in Hogan if fit?

seriously he is our top goal scored and one of the first picked.  He is in if fit.  just need to figure out who to drop

I would drop Weeds as he was fully knackered in the fourth. bring him back in for the blues

Direct Correlation between his sharp drop in form and when he went off in the St Kilda game. I was a big fan of him having last week off knee swolen or not. Hopefully coming back after the rest he will be back up near his best. But I also wouldnt hate him having another week. If he is carrying anything he should have the load taken off him a bit these last 3 weeks

Can anyone be more specific on what their issue was with Garlett on the weekend, other than "form"? I reckon I've seen a dozen posts now wanting to swap him for Kennedy and I don't get it.  He played as a HFF on the weekend and was effective, wasn't he?

You are kidding that he is not our best forward.  Watts has had a great season but is still behind Hogan.  If he is not our best player then he is top 2-3.

The fact we beat those teams without him, has nothing to do with the fact he was out.  He has played in the other 8 we have won this year.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
