They arent going to throw him up to debut against the best team of the last decade if they dont think he can handle it physically. Otherwise they would have waited 1 more week to debut him vs Port, or Carlton the week after.

Must admit I havent seen much Casey this season, therefore not much Weed, but from what Ive been told he is aggressive and hits the contest hard despite his age and somewhat slight frame.

I spoke to him at training today, he is bigger and has more shape than when I first spoke to him in pre season, not lacking in confidence either, another one who enjoys the contest, we only seem to recruit this type these days

Hawthorn have won a lot of close games this season and they aren't the force of previous years. They have only the sixth best percentage in the competition and Carlton were in the game against them last week. I am not saying we should expect to win, but we shouldn't fear playing a first gamer.

And the serious answer, he is not small at all, I think sometimes we get the idea that 18-19 year olds are not developed, he has put on some serious size already, I reckon the physical stuff won't phase him, besides which he will have Trac beside him if they start on him

Great work to the kid , to me its a win win  - at the very worst he has a stinker and realises how hard he will have to work in the preseason to make it at AFL level , best case he has a solid game and remain inthe side for the remainder of the year.

Please note I am an unashamed Dawes hater

Any highlights on him please?

As you can see his body work is very good. He's shown that a bit at Casey this year, even against the bigger bodies.

I remember one of the commentators on draft night stated that if his body holds up, Weeds could be the steal of the draft at 9.  I'm not expecting anything flash from him, just hope he has a solid game.

I'd prefer him to play at the MCG and look at the best teams zone defence than over at Port where he needs to run all day and play a team that has a basic bottom level defence. Hawthorn might be a very valuable experience

Hell, even with low odds of winning v Hawthorn every year, they are my most anticipated game when its at the G. I don't get to see Hawthorn often, but i like seeing how the best set up. I'm sure Wiedemann would anticipate the same thing, rather than be afraid of being bashed to smithereens. (Please stay away from Luke Hodge my sweet prince)

My expectations for young Sam are relatively low. Six goals and 25 possies should get him a pass in my book. Anything under that and we have a massive dud on our hands.

Only you could find such negativity in a celebratory thread Saty.

Now I am just warming up for the Match Day thread, I am pleased he is making his debut, wished him luck today at training if he got in, just another young player that could be sacrificed on the altar of Demonland vitriol

Re our previous discussions on the Weed.

Once again RTG , you have clearly demonstrated your superior football knowledge.

I defer.

As you could imagine BBO, I'm a little nervous for the boy, particularly since you posted that he could get blown over in a strong westerly. Just hope he shows a bit.

I'm sure that alter isn't just reserved for young players.  Someone will slaughter every player at some point or another

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
